It feels quite loose and springy for me too. I haven't noticed any difference in sound quality though. I don't really bother with checking sound quality.

As for dead pixels, I haven't noticed any on mine. I'll check later tonight but there's probably none, since I probably would have found them already.

Soldier Jun 13, 2006 03:22 AM

Well, it isn't so much the quality of the sound, but the positioning. I dunno, things just sound a little more surround-ish to me, but I also haven't been using my old DS in months.

If you haven't seen any dead pixels by now, then you're safe. They stick out like sore thumbs, whether you're looking or not.

LS Jun 13, 2006 06:22 AM

Hmm i've had the same problem with the Springy/loose volume control, i exchanged mine last week (when i was hongkong) little did i know almost all DS lites have springy/loose volume control.

Biggest problem i had so far, was the whole "Dirty and smudgy" feel, oh and the mic is sometimes has less sensitivity, for some reason i needed to say "Objection" like 4 times.

I think it's because it's tuned for american accents. I had a bit of trouble with the Brain Age demo and identifying colors, because it wouldn't recognize me saying "black" on cue.

I've found the mic is more sensitive though, especially in Bomberman and Electroplankton. Perhaps it's location, but playing Bomberman and yelling "BOMB" into your mic wasn't all that fun with my old DS.

I'm quite surprised the majority of DS Lite owners here won't be putting on (namely Hori) screen protectors. I'm going over my usual anal "I just don't know, oh god, what do I do" phase with a new product here, because I just don't like the idea of rubbing it with my sleeve.

Oh, and I think I've found my next purchase:

Gyakuten Saiban: Mask Vision Murder Case (Best Price)

Holy SHIT. The japanese Phoenix Wright (which was original $80 US, I was talking to Acer about it) with the option for english is now only $30 US. From what I can tell it's a reprint, and since there's a demand for the american version, I suppose the japanese version is the best way to go.

One question that has been plaguing me for a while...

Does the new light allow you to play in less hospitable conditions, IE in direct sunlight? This is an annoyance with the other DS!

Also, can anybody definitively tell me about the battery life?

Glad I'm not the only one, the surround sound seems to be a tad better on the DS Lite by comparison.

By the way, any good place to purchase a decent DS Lite carrying case? The cleaning cloth is a definite as the the DS Lite tends to be quite sensitive to prints. Certainly glad I didn't wait for the navy blue or black models...prints galore.

I took my DS Lite back to my local EBGames because of the stuck pixel issue and the little pimply-faced geek behind the counter was giving me shit because "it's only 1 pixel, it's not covered under our return policy." So I used my 20 dollar warranty I purchased from them to open a new one (NO DEAD/STUCK PIXELS THANK GOD), then I spent ANOTHER 20 dollars covering that system.

Fucking extortion. The guy confirmed that I would be spending 80+ dollars on warranties if 4 systems in a row had dead pixels and I wanted to trade them back.

I'm going back later in the week to speak to a manager and get at least 20 bucks back.

Indeed, if I ever heard of "LOL we have excellent return policy LOL". Since this is my sisters though, I might not be so inclinded and say suck it up, but then I'd feel kinda sad when I want to play it. No dead thingies yet.

WTF is this. If it's not satisfactory, it's not satisfactory, :slaps clerk in the face with DS LOL:

So I just came back from my local EB Games. Instead of going through a would-be hassle with the employee, I just went over to check the demo DS Lites they had out to see if they had the same touch screen issues as mine. To my surprise, they do. Their touch screens look a tiny bit off, and the bottom right corners of their touch screens click-in a bit too. Now I'm concerned, is this normal for all DS Lites, or did my store get a bad shipment?

For those of you that have a DS Lite, please do me a favor. Check your DS Lite touch screens for the following:
- Bottom right corner of screen clicks-in
- Screen looks slightly off-center inside.

I just wanna know if SuperDK and I are alone or not on this one.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Jun 13, 2006 02:16 PM

I have neither of those problems, reggie. Then again, I don't have the springy volume slider either. So I dunno if it's just me or what.

No and no. I don't know what to suggest.

LS Jun 13, 2006 08:24 PM

No clicking sound for me either, Yeah i ordered some hori screen protectors yesterday, now i need to remove my current one. any idea how? btw how many stylus came in when you bought your DS lite? for some reason they gave me 4 stylus ( i bought it at hongkong so i dont know)

Rockgamer Jun 13, 2006 08:32 PM

I actually have that clicky thing, but in my regular DS. It doesn't really affect gameplay or anything though, at least from my experience. It may be different for the Lite, though.

The lite I had to return yesterday had that clicking screen thing. Bottom right hand corner and everything. It didn't really bother me that much, but perhaps your touch screen will have a coloured dot outbreak soon! Or not.

I still don't know how this is even possible. Did you push too hard (lol exploitable)? Mine has been awesome, although I can very vaguely see the touchscreen which distorts the even flow of color on the bottom screen. However it isn't HALF as bad as the grid touchscreen the original DS I owned had.

Is there any way of telling if my DS Lite is a grid or regular touchscreen?

Infernal Monkey Jun 13, 2006 09:46 PM

Actually they probably aren't even using the grid design anymore. I think my original touch screen was just screwed so much from the beginning and I was too distracted by the WOW LOOK HOW BRIGHT IT IS. And I hardly used it aside from a few quick goes of Pac 'N Roll (this game is so annoying I would enjoy pegging it against a urinal). I don't think I pressed down with insane strength or anything. =]

dusk Jun 14, 2006 02:56 AM

I returned my DS Lite and exchanged it for a new one. The crooked screen problem is now gone, but to my expectations, the clicky-corner is still an issue. Although now that I think of it, it's less of a "clicky-corner", and more of a "loose corner", because it seems like just one corner of the screen isn't properly sealed to the system, so that when you press down on it with a little more pressure than usual, the screen's corner itself goes down just a bit. I really hope this doesn't lead to any problems in the future.

LS Jun 14, 2006 09:32 AM

Whats a good way to remove screen protectors? i'm thinking of getting hori ones, so i need to remove my current one, and for the stylus, is it advisable to buy the retractable one?

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Jun 14, 2006 01:12 PM

Well, now I"m pissed.

Last night was the first time since Sunday that I tried to play using the Nintendo Buttfuck Connection. And to my horror, my Lite can not detect wireless networks! My old DS is just fine for that though. >=(

So now I am FROWNY FACE and have to return it for another one! BUT LO', EB is sold out. I AM FUCKED FOR THE TIME BEING.

Arg.

FatsDomino Jun 14, 2006 03:08 PM

That's sucks. Mine connected just fine. I was able to transfer my old Mario Kart DS WFC stuff over too. Went without a hitch.

dusk Jun 14, 2006 07:30 PM

I just ordered the Hori extending stylus, screen protector, and black Lite carrying case. I can't wait! How long does it take Play-Asia stuff to send, anyone know? I want my stuff now. ;_;

Elixir Jun 14, 2006 07:37 PM

Well I'm in New Zealand and usually by the time I've placed the order, within 3 hours it's shipped. But it takes something like 2-3 weeks to get here.

Why would you need an extended stylus? Though I've noticed that I squeeze my stylus (WHAT AM I SAYING, OH GOD) extra hard when playing Ouendan. I'd probably order a carrying case, since it's depressing how the Lite was released with no accessories, if it weren't $25 for a fucking pouch.

dusk Jun 14, 2006 07:50 PM

I bought the EB Games brand pouch, and it sucks. It's like I'm jamming my DS Lite into a white, EB Games-labeled anus everytime I put it away. I can't even put anything into the secondary pocket. Maybe some lunch money or a condom can fit in there, but it's certainly no place for game carts.

LS Jun 14, 2006 08:09 PM

Hmm It usually takes me a week when i order at play-asia, Yeah i might be ordering an extra stylus.

You don't happen to own a PSP, do you?

Because I've heard the pack-in black PSP sleeve works really well with the DS Lite.
