Yeah, Larva Eater does parry ALOT but it still didn't affect me to the point where I had to use 2H-Swords. I mean for the Reapers, just finish them off as quick as possible by using your Excal. and stuff cause I did the same. I was just playing it real real safe by choosing those weapons. I don't think poles knock enemies away so the Whale Whisker maybe a good choice.

The only problem is once you start constantly knocking Larva Eater away to the gate surrounding the Waystone, you might not want to reconsider the weapon that made him hit the wall. As long as you fight him in near the middle, your fine.

Oh the parrying is only irritating, since all Gargoyle/Imp enemies do it to a certain extent. It's nothing that a cameo belt can't fix, for example. Poles definitely knock enemies away, into their "critical" death animation (the blowback one).

I guess poles are out of the list of possible weapons to use for his death wish.

I think he has an elemental weakness. In Necrohol of Nabudis, those gargoyles were vulnerable against wind damage so I guess Larva Eater maybe too. So, if you have like, let's say Staff of the Magi then that would be fine to use against him.

Yes, but the Imp/Gargoyle class of monsters has like 3 different weaknesses: Holy, Wind and Ice. Chances are, he's not weak to any of those. And I've seen the Magi staff knock enemies away, so that one would be out.

I think the best way to approach this is to keep your 2H weapons on and fight him near the glowing green platforms or facing the waystone. This sounds like a similar situation to Tower and his falling out of the bounds if you don't go around him.

First comment get for January 16th, what an accomplishment. I'm starting the whole AUTO LEVELING trick run at this moment, guys are currently at 65 and increasing. As for chain levels, it's OVER NINE HUNDRED. Too bad it maxes out so fast, and as well as the loot. ;___;

Drex Jan 17, 2007 12:11 AM

I got my guys up to about level 75, then took on the Subterra. Fun place once you can handle the swarms of enemies. Eventually I picked up the Ultima sword (!), the Ragnarok (obviously, from the Ixion hunt), and got the loot necessary for the Whale Whisker. Trying to figure out the best configuration for my party now, which is a hassle. I'm almost done with the Abyssal level, which I guess is pretty good, but getting mobbed by guys on that level is a little harder to weather. Also almost got owned by a Magick Pot by accident, but I realized and ran in time, and now I've killed my requisite two. And my guys are average level 78. (:

Spatula Jan 17, 2007 12:25 AM

I mind as well go all the way, since it was a bitch to bring him out twice, some times he came in NEVER, it was a pure pain to try to lure it out. But right now, just watching TV and on GFF, and running, oh machines these days.

:SKYNET:

Drex Jan 17, 2007 12:28 AM

They say that's only really an effective leveling machine through the mid 80's, then it's mostly just time consuming. My problem is that I poached him at the end, and he didn't get logged in my bestiary. So I'll go back someday. :/

Spatula Jan 17, 2007 01:09 AM

Yeah, but then I'll have to get to level 99 eventually, and hunts and big enemies don't really help the experience meter at all. I'm just fast tracking it, and hopefully this will make (this SHOULD MAKE) the final few dungeons a cake walk. I think I'm read for Gilgamesh now, I'm about early 70s, I think. I wonder how bad this is for my PS2. ;__;

Yea I was thinking about that and would have been weary about using that method since my last PS2 crapped out. Since then I have been really cautious. But then again if you think about it there have been times where I have played for 8 or so hours straight (with breaks leaving the PS2 on) so all in all it probably doesn't really matter.

Metal Sphere Jan 17, 2007 02:18 AM

I tried doing the Danjuro shit again, no go. Apparently, Yuyu, you cannot kill the Reapers. It breaks the chain of Necrophobes needed to get Larvae Eater to spawn, so if you do that, you have to go back and kill them until you get a high enough amount for him to appear.

I'm not going to wait around while they Annul+Dimensional Rift just so I won't break the chain, so consider the Danjuro a wasted effort.

I paused at 12 Chain on the Bombshell, this being far more reasonable than the above. Foe: Water-weak > Attack definitely helps maintain the chain, even if the Aeronites are fucking annoying.

For anyone looking to snag a Wii and maybe Zelda for cheap, here's some coupons that may help, thanks goes to SOLDIER for pointing these out to me:

$40 off any purchase over $200 @ Circuit City

$10 off any videogame $39.99+ @ Best Buy (you could probably snag Rogue Galaxy/Zelda with this

Wow, hopefully you can sing real well or you know how to have fun while screwing up horribly. Good luck with the lady, btw.

Better that than what some of the folks I know are doing, which is neglecting their schoolwork while playing XII.

SOLDIER_2825 Jan 17, 2007 03:56 AM

Well I am finding myself in a rare position here. Typically when I am reaching the end point of a game and begin my sidequest's and attempt to tie up miscellaneous ends, for some reason I begin to lose interest in the game(aside from the FF series). Yet with XII, even though I felt the story line and dialogue were seriously under developed, I find myself yearning for the completion of the game.

Moving on, now about to head down into the Henne Mines to FINALLY bring the rest of my party up to 99. I've been saying it for some time now but haven't had it in me as of yet to go for another grind session. It shouldn't take all that long though and once I get this all taken care of I can move on to Omega and Yizmat. I don't think with my primary party at 92 and my reserves at an average of 65 I would pose much of a threat here.

Lionking-Cyan Jan 17, 2007 05:56 AM

Maybe this is the first ff where it's strongly required to be lvl 99 to do all the sidequests ^^.

Anyway, i can't descend to the "unknown" level in subterra, can you give me info about this?

Now, my goal is to kill yazamat, so i don't mind doing all the sidequests, nor to waste my life to get tournesol, and so on.
But in order to find him, what hunts must i do? Do i have to do rare game mobs too?
And what hat should my party wear?

This is by far the most confusing and annoying weapon to get because all these theories are not 100% accurate. When you keep zoning from one place to another he he only appears when he feels like it unlike Bombshell who stays locked. I know killing the Reapers break the Necrophobe chain but I did it anyway and did not kill the Necrophobes back at Leo Gate Switch area because...
  • They didn't appear
  • I already killed all of them
  • It would seem ridiculous to kill a ton of Necrophobes again to spawn a single monster

I know you are starting to feel real skeptical right now but I will perform this Larva Eater hunt again just to see and show you EXACTLY how I did it and I will keep you updated. As a matter of fact, I'll try to set up my video camera (if it still works) to show you how I did it.

Tomahawk Jan 17, 2007 02:45 PM

NP Cyan.

Anyway, I've beaten the Behemoth King and Shadowseer with my characters at the following levels:
Vaan = 85, Basch = 81, Fran = 78, Balthier = 76, Ashe = 68, Penelo = 64

I do not plan on getting my characters to max level 99 before the game ends. It's not a necessity to me, and besides that when you get past level 80, it takes about 250,000 exp points to get the next level which is a long time away. I'd get bored of the game knowing my characters aren't going to level anymore either when they reach 99.

Here's a tip for you all - if you are having trouble with multiple necrofiends and Etems in the secret Henne Mines, Berserk + Haste your melee fighters. All I needed was 2 more Soul Powders for the Tournesol, and I got it easily with Vaan + Excalibur and Basch + Holy Lance Berserked with Bravery, Haste, Bubble, and Regen.
When your characters are Berserked, its in my belief that they won't sustain many negative ailments like Confuse or the cheap Death spell. Berserk somehow overrides those. And of course you'll witness the onslaught while you control only your healer everytime. Henne Mines became a cakewalk, and so did Pharos Subterra.

All my hunts are completed - but I need to figure out the routine in opening the Pilgrim door in Sochen to face the Doom Dragon. Then hopefully I'll find out where Yiazmat is.

Right off the bat, the Danjuro in my inventory. I took the Aegis Shield off so you can see it. As you can see, this is a pretty big ass dagger. I'll start posting videos of me killing Larva Eater and attempting to get the dagger (yet again)

Lionking-Cyan Jan 17, 2007 04:07 PM

Berserk on allies also increases their strenght. But i also red it's good to use it on mobs, but doesn't that increase their strenght too?
How do i get to henne and lushu mines secret area?
What helmet should i put on my characters?

Thanks, Yuyu. I am justified in saying what I did about it because it clearly wasn't working. As I said before, I made space in my schedule for 3 hours of game time so I coudl attempt this. What happened during that times was:
  • Killed all the Necrophobes at theLeo Gate platform.
  • Killed all the Necrophobes at the Leo Gate Switch platform.
  • Larvae Eater appeared at the Waystone XIV platform, as usual, with 3 Reapers.
  • Killed the Reapers and then the LE.
  • Proceeded to zone between LGS and Waystone XIV checking every 5 minutes.
  • Larvae Eater, did not appear. Nor do the Reapers
  • I go back to the Leo Gate platform, and kill all the Necrophobes there again.
  • I go back to the Leo Gate Switch platform and kill all the Necrophobes there.
  • Head back to Waystone XIV
  • Larvae Eater is there again, with 3 Reapers.

I must be doing something wrong because after I killed the Reapers and that Larvae Eater, he would not spawn anymore (even after 40 minutes of zoning and checking). That's why I went back and restarted the technique, and sure enough, he was there.

Again, if this technique doesn't take into account the effect the Reapers have on his spawn rate, it shouldn't be used, because it's really tedious either waiting for them to OHKO or killing them and then fucking up the LE spawn.

Enter the map: Destiny's March from the eastern door, and run through the map's circular section in a clockwise motion until you're back in front of the door you came in through. This will unlock the door on the west side of this map. Yiazmat is in the Coliseum over in Ridorana.

Spatula Jan 17, 2007 09:48 PM

Well I've taged over 16 hours on my levelling up "quest", which in the mean time I sometimes forget that FFXII is still running. My main group is at 81 or so, while I'm working on my backup party now, which they are at low 40s, so there's quite the gap they'll have to play catch up on. I wonder how the Nagelmuur DOOD feels now. I'M BORED!

Tomahawk Jan 18, 2007 01:04 PM

Thanks for the info MS - I figured out how to open the West door last night because I remembered the "clockwise" info you said before. Hell Wyrm only took me < 2 hours to kill in the one session.

Unlocked Yiazmat, and yeah I saw YouTube videos of the beast earlier on, so I'll prep up for him. The weapons I currently need are the Scorpion Tail (haven't found any Thunderbugs yet for the Charged Gizzards), and the Castrophetes.
For armor, I still want the Grand Armor + Grand Helm, Brave Suit + Dueling Mask, Lordly Robes, Mirage Vest and a Ribbon or two. Guess I'll go digging in the Henne Mines more.

About the Larvae Eater:
Here's something i just found from ASephiroth:click on More

Aside from that, if I give enough trophies to Blok (for armor), is there a chance of a Brave Suit/ Grand Helm/ Grand Armor going up for sale after I give him enough?

Lastly, equip Penelo with the Whale Whisker and Berserk her... then laugh.

Tomahawk Jan 18, 2007 03:46 PM

Wow, Yiazmat is fuckin rigged to shit.
Took me 20 minutes to get rid of 2 of his health bars - so he has about 18 left?
This shits gonna take me a couple nights... I wonder if Square will stick with another rigged side boss for XIII.

Ha ha, you seriously think that's rigged? Get ready for the rest of the battle when he:
  • Uses Damage Cut @ 50% HP, bringing 9999 damage down to 6999.
  • Spams White Breath, with increasing effectiveness (hello there Stop)
  • Uses Growing Threat to double his level from 73 to ~146, bring his damage after Protectga to around the 3k range. Never saw what he did without it up, nor would I want to.
  • His speed magically increases over time
  • His physical attacks become increasingly effective in inflicting death (it starts out very low at first)
  • His physical attacks are almost guaranteed to OHKO you by said point, especially at the speed at which he attacks.
  • He begins using Death Strike (OHKO attack) to interrupt your healing and later begins spamming it.
  • If he fails to OHKO with his physical attack, he will strike (~3k per hit) as many times as it takes until you either get killed instantly or the target character dies.
  • Cyclone, a previously weaksauce attack actually becomes something to be wary of.

Rigged? Yes, but he's actually beatable. If SE had done some bullshit like give him Putrid Breath/Curse/Pox or some crap like multi reverse+curaja, he'd be way harder. Same goes for Omega.

Lionking-Cyan Jan 18, 2007 04:32 PM

Dam, since the release of world of warcraft the burning crusade i stopped playing ff12 ^^. Hopre i'll get back to it soon ^^.
