If that don't work.. I need "mah loot" returned -.-... heh.. and i was having alot of fun but now i have to see what gives with Y's and Legend of Heroes..
And hopefully, we can get a NA release and the other upcoming Tales games for the psp.. |

DevHook was updated to 0.44 quite a while ago and now, you can emulate 2.71 firmware. On top of that, you should be able to use homebrew on all versions of the PSP at this point.
There's some pretty interesting custom firmwares out now, but I don't know much about them nor have I tested them, but if I do, I'll let you guys know about them. |

I also like how the hyped 'Undiluted Platinum' modchip is next to pointless with all this. |

2.80 firmware in a week or two though. RSS Video or protected firmware, which is the real reason for such a sudden firmware update? I think we all know why. Silly Sony. |
They can't really "protect" the firmware any more than they currently do. Sony can't change the encryption method used. I'd expect a new firmware to be decrypted and emulated in DevHook in no time.
|
Hmm my PSP was updated to 2.71 a few weeks ago. Seeing how theres no games at the moment that I wanna buy (cause of the damn prices), I wanted to run somed emulators on it. Well I can't so is there a way to downgrade it to 1.5 or 2.0? And what possible risks are there of downgrading?
|
Not anymore for you buddy

If you actually updated your firmware only recently, your timing couldn't have been any worse. The Downgrader for 2.6 was released just a week ago. Now go shoot yourself or something. ;-) |
And hey, there's even a chance you wouldn't've been able to download anyway - The chances of having an undowngradable TA-082 motherboard are totally up in the air.
I recently discovered Devhook 0.45. FUCKING WONDERFUL APP. Now I'm playing a load of 2.xx games on my 1.50 PSP, fuck yeah. The homebrew scene is really thriving right now. |
Just a question: Did they ever improve SNES emulation to a point that the most system-intensive games (Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger in battle, etc...) worked smoothly?
|
Blahashdajdhasdhkasdhsad dfouy fdsajfdsjh damn it, I upgraded to 2.71 cause I was tempted by the Loco Roco demo. Well I hope people get arround to hack 2.71 so I'll be able to downgrade or play SNES games on it.
I wanna know about the SNES emulation aswell, has it been improved yet? Last time I played a SNES game on my PSP was last October and it was Yoshi's Island, the game was running horribly on the PSP. |
Yoshi's Island still runs pretty badly, but most other games run at 100% or very close to it. Chrono Trigger and FFVI are totally, utterly playable and Super Mario RPG is playable if you're patient... I'd say runs at 55fps or so.
N64 emulation isn't too bad either - some games get you 20fps. |
Does any one know why Donkey Kong Country runs better than Yoshi's Island on the PSP? I mean the graphics of Donkey Kong look a little superior compared to Yoshi's Island.
|
Nah, they're actually not technically superior. The only reason they look better is because the sprites used are pre-rendered 3D models converted into flat images. Yoshi's Island's sprites have MANY more frames, and there's a lot more going on in the background - Look at the lush colour-shifting and deforming effects going on.

Some advice for DevHook users: The tool (versions 0.43 to 0.45) corrupts all sorts of data on your Memory Stick (media, savegames, bookmarks, RSS feeds) in random intervals (seems to be caused by using the browser).
There's a simple solution to this: Write protect the AUTH.DAT file in your emulated firmware folder (/flash1/net/http/). Applies to firmwares 2.60 and 2.71 at least. |
Already write-protected everything in the flash0 folders, and haven't been bothered to do so for the flash1 folders as I don't really use the browser. Neat to know that it could fuck things up, ty for the tip.

THANK YOU Rock, I was wondering what the hell was going on!
|
I'm having a little problem with devhook. Seems that in-game wifi doesn't always work, but in the XMB I can use the web browser and all fine. Does the 0.46 update fix this?

Anyone know if Blade Dancer or Legend of Heroes 2 are worth picking up? I already know that LoH2 will have the same piss poor translation as LoH did simply because the translators don't seem to give a damn (and the game's story will probably move at the same speed that LoH's did too).
I've been hearing nothing but negativity about Blade Dancer, it seems that having your weapons break during battle and the lack of a pause button angers people or something like that. The game also becomes stupidly easy after the halfway point apparently, which seems to turn off a lot of people. |
Forget either of those games, Lacerta, and get Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. It rocks. The biggest complaint is the minimal save points but hello, sleep mode.
|
I already have VP:Lenneth, I'm just looking for another RPG to play once in a while.
Are the load times in Ys really as bad as everyone makes them out to be? Maybe a little mindless button mashering with good ol' Adol will pass the time once in a while. |
They're noticeable, but not that horrible. Have you picked up Kingdom of Paradise yet? If not, I'd highly recommend it. I've already played through it 3 times now just cuz it's so much fun to pick up and play.
|
Fucking a. Somebody update me. I can play 2.6 games with 1.5 firmware, download these games and run them off a memory card, all while being able to play an SNES emulator that is FINALLY running at normal speeds? Jesus christ I need to catch up.
We should have a little section in the first post showing all of the updated homebrew release note essentials so eveyone can keep up to date. Or is that dumb :(. |
