I also hope there isn't a major shortage of the game. I didn't preorder it not thinking it was necessary. Even the Wii is still being constantly sold out due to the shortages of the system. Though, I'm hoping to get the game on Sunday or Monday. I do work at Target, though I'm unsure if we're getting it on Sunday. I'm still confused as to if Gamestop is the only place getting it on the 9th or just the only place holding tournaments.

I'll probably use Sunday/Monday as a day to check out the mall and Target.

EDIT: I just found this on another forum.

I stopped by my GameCrazy today and I asked about the midnight launch. They said "did you pre-order?" I said "Um yes" they said "Ooo....umm...how long ago?" I said "hmm probably a few weeks ago, why?" And they said "Did you pre-order before the 25th of February?" I said "Yes, I pre-ordered like February 1st" and they said "Oh okay then you're good...we won't be able to fulfill all the pre-orders at launch."

Lmfao.

I got an email today from Sears informing me that my copy is in the mail, supposed to arrive tomorrow. :3:

I stopped by Gamestop to reserve it yesterday and they said I would be one of the last people to get it at their location as they were closing off reservations that night. I would assume every location is different so stop by your local place and check their availability.

I can roll out later tonight and see who's still taking pre-orders, I reckon. My brother showed up at Gamestop and pre-ordered Burning Crusade the night it was due to release, and since he worked at that mall he was able to get there first in line.

BucPride Mar 7, 2008 12:58 PM

I work at a GameStop and we got an e-mail from home office saying to continue to take reserves. Hell, in the mall I work at, the EB Games below my store has 93 extras for just walk-ins. You're good. If you didn't pre-order, you should be fine. It doesn't vary that much store to store. If a store hits its reserve limit, they are informed via email and then are told to continue to using a different method and they just won't have as many walk in's to sell.

The problem being is that not every store is going to have extras as far as things are concerned. Some areas will have extras for walk-ins, but others won't have any due to pre-orders for the game. The best solution I just go with is to pre-order to avoid worry about picking it up the day it comes out.

FatsDomino Mar 7, 2008 03:09 PM

lol I just went out to my local Gamestop today and preordered the second to last copy they had of their reserves. =')

Oh I agree, mine as well pre-order it if you're going to get it. But, just passing along what I've been told and what I've read via email. The idea is that you'll get 1.5/1 in terms of extras:reserves per store. So most every store will have allocated extras, but it's up to the manager if he/she wants to keep reserving games or not. It all depends on how many total reserves there are for a game.

My copy of the game was sitting on my workdesk this morning. It's so hard to sit there and stare at it as I wait for 8 hours to go by. But starting my weekend is going to be a blast. Can't wait to get home. =D

Yay for breaking street dates!

Awesome Miles. We should set up a time on when to play this game. I'm all for tonight ;p.

You know, you could always study those kanji flash cards to make the time go by faster. :P

For those of you just NOW trying to reserve the game and are having trouble, I'm surprised you waited so late, considering how ridiculously popular this game has become. o_O I reserved my copy and paid it off in full as soon as I found out the release date (which was Dec. 3 then) LATE SUMMER last year.

Monkey King Mar 7, 2008 05:15 PM

I never ever reserve games. It encourages places like Gamestop to not sell to walk-ins at ALL, and you generally have to endure a painful amount of upselling in the process. Not to mention if I show up on release day, pre-order slip on hand, and they run out because they didn't order enough, I'm going to be nine kinds of pissed off.

It's actually less stressful to pre-order, because reservations don't actually mean you're guaranteed your game.

Kairyu Mar 7, 2008 06:05 PM

It does?
I always thought Gamestop cater towards pre-order customers because each employee has a monthly reserve quota to meet (I call them brownie points.) Which is why I get the whole store trying to convince me to pre-order a copy of the next mario kart despite SSBB coming out in a week.

Also, damn you Miles. DAMN YOU >:U
You better get a head start at playing that game. Because I will kick your ass. Mario vs Sonic, items everywhere, animal crossing town, sunday night, be there or be square!

FatsDomino Mar 7, 2008 06:07 PM

That's why I preordered late actually. I talked to the guy and he said that he only had 2 left to meet the reserve amount that they had. I'm cool with that, but had I preordered months ago and they suddenly didn't find out until now that they didn't have enough to cover all the preorders then I'd have been super pissed off.

Slash Mar 7, 2008 06:11 PM

Hey you guys, im not going to read through all the profiles but I just got back from Gamestop.

The one where I am (Salem, OR), the dude told me they were going to use the nunchuck-wimote setup so I think that may be whats going down at all the Gamestops.

Thought I'd pass that bit of information on

The whole quota thing is a pain in the ass. Least I don't have to worry much about it, but managers usually do. It doesn't make sense for us to badger people that are coming in to PICK UP a game about more up coming ones.

Slash Mar 7, 2008 06:26 PM

I need to add ya'll to my wii...I think I'll do that now ~goes to gffwiki~

Sousuke Mar 7, 2008 06:27 PM

So... Real stupid question, but I don't think I've ever seen the answer to this.

Once you go into 'Final Smash' mode, how do you actually perform the final smash? Is it just like... do a smash attack? Or is there some other button combo you have to use?

Slash Mar 7, 2008 06:30 PM

press special attack..at least thats what I've read

Smash Bros. DOJO!!

The final smash replaces your neutral B, or so I heard. So in other words, you can still do your recovery jump and whatnot, just not the neutral one without unleashing your final smash. Shouldn't hold on to it too long though, since I saw some vids where it can be beaten out of a character pretty quickly.

As a side note, I managed to pre-order the game :3 Hip I can get to play some of you guys in the near future!

EDIT: Does anyone know what the friends list limit is for this game, or whether there is one?

FatsDomino Mar 7, 2008 08:11 PM

Today's update was a bunch of screenshots that Sakurai has received that he thought were amusing and they are.

Just wanted to point out a rather amusing one titled "Tingle's Dream".

Do notice Snake lurking way in the top right corner. Oh Sakurai (or really Gomadoufu) you card~

Miles Mar 7, 2008 08:59 PM

Man, I gotta use a different friend code for this game? =\ I hate the friend code system. Anyways, my friend code is 2320-5771-6207 for when everyone else gets their copy. =O (I'm sure we'll have an official friend code thread though)

Chaotic Mar 7, 2008 11:17 PM

Or just the Wikipage. :|

Ugh... I can't stand waiting any more. :tpg:

I need tomorrow to come already.

Oh snaps, I'd like to be a spectator on that match. :3:

Rollins Mar 7, 2008 11:29 PM

I'm not really in the know about this aspect (and I'm not really itching to do any thread digging) so there is another friend code system setup for Brawl? Meh, no worries, all the people I'd like to play with are just a board post/IM away anyway.

I can understand people not wanting reserve games on principle, but this is too big of a game to leave to chance by walking in (at least in my mind). Almost feels like just walking in to try and get a Wii, you're damn lucky if you find it, but you probably won't.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Mar 7, 2008 11:36 PM

I guess it's news to everyone, seeing as how this is more than likely many people's first online Wii game.

Yes, each game has UNIQUE FRIEND CODE ENTRIES. LIKE THE DS.

Yes, it's retarded. Yes, Nintendo is stupid/annoying/etc. Yes, it's aggrivating to the point where Iwe'd rather PAY for Nintendo to just move on to a even marginally improved online experience with better infrastructure, but that's not gonna happen. A shame.

Editting the thread title so no one else asks about this, for the thousandth time.
