This game not being online would be a disaster. I mean, come on! During the E3 2007 N conference, when Reggie talked about N being serious about "online", I wasn't convinced. How many games with online functions did he mention again? Two? Three? Is that N being serious? Gah! Might as well throw my Wii away... or maybe not ;)

Cheezeman3000 Jul 16, 2007 12:04 AM

There's a lot of Wii games that are already online... Wii Shop channel.... Wii forecast channel.... Wii news channel....

CloudNine Jul 16, 2007 12:07 AM

You aren't be seriously suggesting that those are considered online games, are you?

Joe Wiewel Jul 16, 2007 02:10 AM

Heh, today's update was some more music, though this time it's pretty much the same as the current Corneria stage music, only arranged differently. They only have 48 seconds of it up, so it didn't really get past Star Fox's Venom part of the song, but what little they had of the Star Fox's main theme, they kind of fucked up the melody...if Star Fox's main theme is even supposed to be part of the song.

Nothing to see here folks, move along.

He's being quite serious. I mean, look at all those ellipses! That means he's dead serious...

SuperSonic Jul 16, 2007 09:32 AM

That Space Armada theme isn't that bad at all. I'm starting to like what they're doing to the music. However, I get the feeling that this means they're not bringing back some old tracks like the usual Brinstar/Zebes theme, but that means that some other tracks are getting recognition like the Zelda II temple music did in Melee.

Joe Wiewel Jul 17, 2007 02:17 AM

Man, I don't know anything about the newer Pokémon. Groudon, Deoxys...

I am familiar with Hyper Beam though...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/items..._070717d-l.jpg

And it looks like one of those attacks that don't hit very often but when they do it's very painful, like Lugia's Aeroblast attack in Melee. To me, that attack looks like a character would get stuck in it and get continuously damaged, like Ho-Oh's Sacred Fire attack in Melee but it looks like it knocks characters away, so whatever. :-_-:

Guru Jul 17, 2007 03:24 AM

Considering the plumes of smoke ... I'd say that hyper beam hits like a smash attack. And your character gets knocked accordingly to the amount of damage they've already sustained.

Zero Suit Samus is revealed in the form of the Final Smash for Samus. You can throw her armor at people. Still no characters mentioned for a while, hopefully something Wednesday.

Joe Wiewel Jul 18, 2007 02:21 AM

This time we have two pieces of news, one of which is highly anticipated: How Zero Suit Samus comes to be.

First of all though, I don't really like Samus's Final Smash being an extreme exaggeration of the Charge Beam from Melee, which is an exaggeration of the Charge Beam from Super Metroid.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/chara..._070718b-l.jpg

It didn't even come close to being that big originally as it is in Samus's Final Smash. It would have made so much more sense to make her Final Smash be a Power Bomb, which destroys everything that's destroyable on screen in Super Metroid. :gonk:

After that, her Power Suit gets destroyed, which also bothers me because it's superior technology developed by the Chozo that was passed onto Samus. It's very un-Power Suit-like to have it destroy itself. In Metroid Zero Mission and Prime, it was destroyed by some type of external blunt force, not by its own weapons.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/chara..._070718c-l.jpg

Then Zero Suit Samus emerges. This could really suck during battle if a player wants to change into her and has to user Samus's Final Smash Attack first. Hopefully, she can be selected right from the start. And it doesn't look like a player can switch back and forth like with Zelda and Sheik.

Throwing around her pieces of armor is a nice touch though.

I'm not going to lie, I don't like where this game is heading. Don't get me wrong, it will still be awesome, but it really bothers me that they're glorifying the concept of "smash" so much that they're deviating from the source material - the original games!

Today's info might answer the Samus debacle being discussed here: Perhaps once you get the Smash Ball you do a mega-blast, while at the same time shedding your armour (also seen in the E3 trailer)

Ahhh ^_^... I love it when I predict things right.

In this case though, I wish I was wrong. I would be so damn annoying having to change via a Final Smash. Why couldn't it just be a moveset ala Zelda/Sheik?

So now that we know how Samus becomes Zero Suit, how would Zero Suit turn back to normal Samus...?

scotty Jul 18, 2007 03:37 AM

Maybe Samus has to go collect her armour before someone throws it off the edge?

immp Jul 18, 2007 03:57 AM

I'm guessing if you die you come back in armor but still not the best way to change your fighting style.

What I wanna know now is....so you use your final smash, your armor falls off, you pick up another final smash.....what happens?

Isn't there only one Final Smash per battle or something like that?

Yeah. Sakurai said there`d be one per battle.

Ah, so it wasn't just me imagining things. Hopefully we get an option that lets you make it the only item that appears, so final smash-only matches are possible.

Black Mage Jul 18, 2007 10:13 AM

The actual quote is:
Quote:

The Final Smash is a secret skill that can be performed but once…and only after obtaining an item called the Smash Ball, which is a precious item, indeed.
I think the more popular interpretation is that a character can only perform one final smash per match. Not that there's only one Smash Ball.

A lot of people are up in arms over this, and really I don't see why there's so little faith in the development team. I fully expect that there's a way to select Zero Suit Samus at the beginning of a match, ala holding A to start as Sheik.

I have my doubts that so much effort would go into creating a completely "new" character that can only be played for limited times. Or not at all with items turned off. Especially with a character people have been expectant of for some time now.

Of course, in the event this is the only way she's playable, that's fine too. I like the fact that they're changing things up, and it's a really neat addition in my opinion.

ah ok my bad. I was going to check if that was the case but I was too lazy. I guess that cancels out the idea of Final smash item only matches.

If she is indeed the replacement for shiek that is a bit dissapointing, tournies will probably never see her thats for sure. Something tells me they'll definately have an option to just play as her.

So if they're will to go that far with a character, I wonder if anyone esle will have crazy changes like that.

I bet that what this means is that turning into Zero Suit Samus is a consequence of using the final smash. This will suck if the other characters aren't affected after their FSes. This would make ZS Samus playable as well, but this could mess up stats with normal Samus too. Overall, a very perplexing post.

RacinReaver Jul 18, 2007 02:36 PM

I wonder what ability Kirby would get when eating Zero Suit Samus.

Get a laser pistol like Fox?

Maybe Zero Suit Samus is an unlockable character. Finish normal/hard story mode or something to that effect and get Zero Suit Samus as an option.

I wonder more what Kirby will look like if he eats Zero Suit Samus.

Ponytail?

Regardless, Zero Suit Samus starts looking hotter with every new update. And that whip really tickles the lightsaber geek inside of me.

When Samus destroys her Power Suit, she’s left with the Zero Suit. What she’s lost in power and weaponry, she makes up for in speed!

Once she turns that Paralyzer in her hand into a whip, she has quite a long reach as well! Not exactly the straightforward fight you thought it was, huh?
Well, that counts out Simon Belmont. Also lol "no clone characters." They're really pushing it.

Amayirot Akago Jul 20, 2007 02:29 AM

Well, they've gone from totally awesome to totally mysterious with today's update. Methinks Trophies are involved somehow.
