Lair got push back to September 4 because of an issue that aroused during QA testing regarding the game's various online features, like the leaderboards and its medal systems. They announced it like 2 week before the release date, so maybe best buy and futureshop didn't had time to change their flyers...

and if you go on the futureshop website they even list the game to September 18, I just hope it's a mistake because this means that in Canada we'll get the games 2 weeks after the US >.<

Okay dudes, I've got a problem.

I've acquired Heavenly Sword for reviewing purposes, but it won't work on the goddamn ps3 I got. Folders are accessible as if it is a data disc (nothing viewable of course), but doesn't appear under GAME. Is the disc screwed or do I have to adjust the settings on the unit?

ASAP help much appreciated fellas. I'll sneak you some juicy bits if you can help me get this working...

SouthJag Aug 14, 2007 04:33 AM

I can't imagine that's got anything to do with the PS3. However you obtained your early copy, I'd say you obviously got one that wasn't encoded or whatever correctly.

Torte Aug 14, 2007 04:38 AM

Yeah, that's what I thought. Cheers dude. I'm gonna rip one out of Ninja Theory for dashing my hopes.

Kilroy Aug 14, 2007 10:26 AM

It might be a version for a debug machine, perhaps? If that's the case, do you have a debug machine and the latest software? There is a new debug firmware out there, but I can't remember the version right now.

map car man words telling me to do things Aug 15, 2007 03:08 PM

Review and preview code always comes on white BD-Rs and can only be played on debug machines. Whoever you got it off from shouldn't have given it to you, and if you stole it, I hope you get caught.

Now I wonder which of the two review codes you got ::chinstroking::

PS3's GamerTag - The 'GamerCard'
Quote:

During a playable demo of Unreal Tournament III at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival, we spotted something very interesting on the game’s menu system. It’s called Gamercard and it doesn’t seem too unlikely a possibility that this will turn out to be a unique player identity system, not entirely dissimilar to the Xbox 360’s Gamertag system that manages player stats and achievements.
I don't really understand this. What the hell is the difference between the PSN IDs and the 360's GamerTags? Just stats and achievements?

Anyways, looks like another feature that is going to be implemented soon in a future update...

It's white on the front and blue on the back. It says Heavenly Sword, July 2007 and REVIEW on the the front too. I don't have time to do things like steal games; reviewing is only a part-time gig for me. I've sent it back to the boss and am now awaiting the final code.

Yeah, I have the same disc right here, plus the revised August 2007 Version 2. All internal, preview and review material comes on those discs and require a debug PS3 to work, just like internal, review and preview code of PS2 games comes on orange and red discs that require debug PS2s and a special key in the USB slot.

I'm just stunned this boss of yours wouldn't realize you don't have one. If you've reviewed PS2/3 games before (whatever it is you review for), I assume it's only been retail/promo copies or on someone else's machine?

I'm sure they'll release the promos soon enough, hopefully your boss will send one of those.

Torte Aug 16, 2007 05:26 AM

I've never reviewed on PS3 before - this was going to be the first time. However, my colleagues have never had any problems before seeing as we're usually given final copies (bar a few PSP codes that work fine on any PSP). It's not often that we get these earlier versions and in this case, it's only because HS is getting close to a simultaneous worldwide release.

Musharraf Aug 17, 2007 04:51 AM

The DiRT demo is available in the store. This better looks as awesome as the trailer =D

Chip Aug 20, 2007 12:10 AM

I soooooo envy you guys who are able to play that review disc of Heavenly Sword.... I'm here stuck playing the 2 battle-long demo .... but I'm not complaining XD

cyclonejack4 Aug 20, 2007 04:02 PM

I cannot wait for Warhawk.

I want to play Motorstorm, but I don't have a PS3. I want to buy one soon very badly.

Kilroy Aug 21, 2007 07:05 AM

I'm too looking forward to the Warhawk release, because it's very boring when you can only find the odd game reviewer.... But it is quite good.

eprox1 Aug 21, 2007 11:15 AM

Fuckin' right, bitches. Warhawk releases a week from today. My PS3 is finally gonna see some heavy use once that game comes out.

I'm still on the fence about which version to buy. The addition of headset is a pretty sweet deal, but I'm a little concerned with the difference in load times between the PSN version and the Blu-Ray version :/.

If I can install some of the game (or all) onto the HDD from the Blu-Ray disc to increase load times, then I think I might have to go with that to snag an extra headset and some special features.

Inhert Aug 21, 2007 01:12 PM

I'll probably wait before getting warhawk. I wasn't really impress with the beta. Well yes it's really a good game but I expected more I don't know and maybe because I don,t play really often those type of game.

Folding@home Update Comming Soon
Quote:

We are all very excited here for the release of the new Folding@home (FAH) client for the PS3! This latest update addresses issues in two major areas: user requests and improving the accuracy of the core that we have running on the SPU. In addition, we totally revised the rendering engine for the molecules and added a more sophisticated display format, which is closer to the imagery you find in biology textbooks. This actually required a protocol change and the protein needs to be described in much more detail from Stanford University’s side of things.

Another really cool feature that was also requested by the FAH community is the support of PSP Remote Play. In this latest version we enabled this feature so you can now access FAH remotely from your PSP (that you already own, since it’s such a cool little gadget) which is an awesome combination since the CELL processor is actually doing the Folding job, but the PSP fully controls the UI so you can carry it around with you.
HAHA! Now I can kick your guys asses when I'm not even at home. Suck it.

EDIT:
WHOA WHOA WHOA WHEN THE FUCK DID THIS HAPPEN:

Speaking of flexing, further reason to love my job. Forgive the shoddy pics though, I don't have the means of properly editing and cleaning them up here at the office.

Fancy slip that will get smudged within a second.

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...F/IMG_6688.jpg

The cover is super shiny and will be full of finger prints.

It opens to this fold out, with a press disc, review code and a kind of booklet/magazine in the middle.

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...F/IMG_6698.jpg

Back of the magazine

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...F/IMG_6701.jpg

The magazine is just a few pages a is just typical hyperbole about what an amazing achievement in entertainment the game is. But the artwork is lovely.

Interestingly enough, this review code is playable on a regular PS3. I guess they want/need far more people than only the established game media here to cover the title.

Elixir Aug 22, 2007 07:29 AM

So what was the reason behind them making beautiful, exclusive press kits which 99% of gamers won't end up seeing, again?

russ Aug 22, 2007 09:26 AM

Yeah, I can't imagine why you'd want to impress the gaming media who will be reviewing your title and then publishing said review in some form of mass media. That's just stupid.

map car man words telling me to do things Aug 22, 2007 11:03 AM

Far be it from me to defend them, but they have been doing it for years now, you know.

Just because you've never been invited to a fancy and expensive launch party for a particular title doesn't mean they haven't held them.

eprox1 Aug 22, 2007 06:41 PM

Apparently there's a 'limited time' download for the Folklore demo on the UK store?

Why it is only for a limited time and why it is for the PAL store only is beyond me :/.

and i know you have like 3 PS3's set up at work to run f@h qwarky. i will regain my status as ultimate folding champion.

What, being nice to people is looked down upon these days? :|

Rotorblade Aug 23, 2007 01:00 PM

Hey, that's some funny shit, people. Specifically, don't be so quick to diss. There's something to be said about what Elixir pointed out, even if it was heavy handed and s~snarky. Yes, gaming journalism and exclusivity for the press is what a lot of the common player folk miss out on. That is the point, I'll concede that. With position comes privileges.

However, and Brady brought this up in the Fallout 3 thread I believe, it's becoming more of a trend to keep the reviewers dumb and happy rather than legit and professional...

Hmm, well, not necessarily dumb and happy. But most certainly focused on a few benefits to being privy to review copies. It's more than just snazzy extras, but it plays into it. Now, and I could be wrong, unless that content was going to become available later on, there is something messed up about keeping content like an art book privy to just review copies. Especially when we're trying to expand the game medium so that it will gain the appreciation that some of us feel it deserves.

In spite of being a completely different subject than this thread contains, I think there was some merit in it, just poor choice of words. At that, I can get behind it more than "You owning Ikaruga will devalue my copy of it" (needed reference point).

Kilroy Aug 23, 2007 01:07 PM

I wish that I was dumb and happy... But the truth is I can't ignore when a game is bad, no matter how snazzy the packaging is:(
