It's actually pretty common for games to be pushed back a few weeks right before release from QA testing. I specifically remember Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders getting delayed about 3 weeks so that they could reduce the max number of players in multiplayer (yeah, "huh?"). I doubt they're taking an extra few weeks to impliment a new control scheme, since that would simply add even more time onto QA testing and push the game back even farther.

LAIR official scores so far
GamePro (poor source): 7.5/10 (3.75/5)
Play Magazine (more credable): 9/10

Any other scores (unless you HAVE the magazine) are simply rumours spun by fanboys on any side of the fence.

The delay on LAIR does kind of bite, however I suppose it's better to change a easy fix flaw before release and get good & solid reviews rather then the "they'll probably fix this in a later update" line found in most now current-gen reviews (AKA MotorStorm & content).

As for the Beat 'em up thing. I'll have to also go with GodHand. Both GH and VJ are AWESOME games, however GodHand stays a little more to formula on this fron and therefore gices you a more nostalgic feeling (almost like Final Fight or Street of Rage).

Which magazine is it? EGM?

Musharraf Aug 2, 2007 05:13 AM

Yeah, it looks like Electronic Gaming Monthly

Also, "what a drag", lol.

Rock Aug 2, 2007 05:19 AM

A 5.0 from Garnett Lee? It's official folks, Lair sucks ass. I blame it on the hype.

Musharraf Aug 2, 2007 05:47 AM

You mean like that Final Fantasy VIII [PC] hype?

Rock Aug 2, 2007 06:31 AM

What "Final Fantasy VIII [PC] hype" is this you're talking off? Must have missed it.

What I meant was that expectations for Lair were so unjustly high that there was no way for Factor 5 to ever meet them.

Musharraf Aug 2, 2007 06:43 AM

Well everyone was like "OMG Final Fantasy VIII for PC is going to be just as awesome as FFVIII for PSX". Of course, it wasn't, and everyone was disappointed -> :(

Slayer X Aug 2, 2007 07:14 AM

I think your example is a bit too limited to who experianced FFVIII -PC for probably 95% of people probably don't even know that it was even even on the PC.

More recent examples of a similar experiance would be that of Halo 2.

It looked terrible and had some weird problems that caused it to glitch occasionally. It played the same, except for the problems mentioned.

Here's the clincher that assured it's sucking: The music was in MIDI.

Dude...and Super Rub-A-Dub for 2.99? I'll bite. That demo was a lot of fun to play.

I think I'm going to buy a 720p TV. It breaks my heart, but I'm too poor for 1080p.

Slayer X Aug 2, 2007 10:28 PM

Unless your getting something larger then 32" - 40" 1080P doesn't make enough of a difference for the money. Anything under 40", 720P is optimal resolution. So don't feel bad.

Solis Aug 2, 2007 10:37 PM

You can get a 32" LCD HDTV for under $500 now, even Newegg looks to have some decent deals on them. Not a bad deal really, I've considered selling mine to get one with a higher refresh rate since the ghosting sucks on it (stupid low quality Westinghouse crap...). I don't think 1080p is particularly beneficial at this point for games since few support it, and those that do sometimes have performance issues when run at it. It would be nice for HD movies, but you might still be better off just sticking with a 720p for now and getting a better one later on when prices come down more.

For that matter, I've once again been debating getting a PS3 since the Xbox 360 price drops seem to be far less substantial than I anticipated, and with used 20GB PS3s showing up in pawn shops for ~$370, the price difference between an Xbox 360 Premium and a PS3 would be relatively minor. But in all honesty, I'm worried about the longevity of the system at this point due to the rather slow sales its had since the start of the year. Seems third parties are starting to get worried, and it would be pretty disappointing if they decided to move to other platforms before the PS3 even recovers from this sales lull. Although I'm going to need to play Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction no matter what...

Slayer X Aug 2, 2007 10:43 PM

I'm more worried about the longevity of the Wii and 360 for they have pratically NO big games coming for '08. I think that's a bigger issue current PS3 numbers.

I'm not saying this for the sake of arguing either. I own all three so I've paid for the right to be worried ;)

Chip Aug 4, 2007 09:26 PM

After playing Ridge Racer 7 split screen on my puny crt tv... I badly felt the urge to save up for an HDTV ;___;

Slayer X Aug 5, 2007 12:00 AM

That reminds me. A friend and I played RR7 on his EDTV last week split screen. However I noticed that the FPSs dropped dramatically. I'm not surprised. It's just that you don't notice what the difference of 60FPS from 30FPS until you don't have it anymore, lol.

Musharraf Aug 6, 2007 10:30 AM

Hey, the "The Darkness" demo is pretty cool. Kinda bizarro stuff, but the scene in the tunnel was pretty kick-ass ;)

Additional Spam:
The "European PS3 Bundle" is available for €599 now. One additional controller plus two "Bestseller Games" (Motorstorm and F1 or R:FoM). In total, you save €165.

However, I don't really care, the only thing that's interesting is the additional controller, since the games pretty much suck. Well okay, maybe Motorstorm is alright, but I dunno.

Should add a few PS3 owners to the German market, though, which is always good ;)

Musharraf Aug 12, 2007 05:28 PM

Oh man all the good games are delayed if this goes on like that, I will end up buying FIFA 2008 as my first game I already know it >:[

Slayer X Aug 12, 2007 11:22 PM

What are you talking about? Both LAIR and Heavenly Sword are coming out in September... a SINGLE week apart.

Want to know what game you should buy first anyway? Ninja Gaiden OR Virtua Fighter 5. Both are games that even if there were a lot of games for the PS3 would still be gems in the library. ;)

Eh? Lair got delayed? If that's the cause then why are the flyers for Best Buy and Future Shop still have it listed with a release date of August 16th?

eprox1 Aug 13, 2007 12:46 AM

Yeah, it got delayed until September 4th :/.

SouthJag Aug 13, 2007 12:46 AM

Because they're retarded, I suppose. GameStop has it listed as 09/04, if I remember right. It's somewhere in the first week of September though.
