Strictly speaking I've used up the XP budget for a 10th-level combat here, but considering half the combatants were wiped out before they could so much as say boo I think that was mitigated quite a bit.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Dec 3, 2009 09:56 AM

The difference between "Easter" and "this Friday" rests solely on the time budgeting decisions of our bro Acer.

FatsDomino Dec 3, 2009 10:56 AM

Well we had like three or five strategies going on in the background and I didn't want to be the one to mess it up. Plus I wasn't able to get in contact with my consultant.

But yeah, I hear you guys. :(

Zergrinch Dec 3, 2009 11:00 AM

Five strategies?

I thought I was the one who had it bad with all the kooky plans.

We should talk moar. Google Wave, perhaps? So long as ol' Pangy ain't in on the plotting :)

FatsDomino Dec 3, 2009 11:02 AM

Actually I was kind of referring to you in that sense. =I

I was actually kind of hoping you guys would get a secret clubhouse so as to plot behind my back. 'course, the secrecy inevitably falls apart when somebody has to ask me how the rules work :(

You might be able to just make a separate thread for player-only discussion, really. Threadban me and User 0 and you're set. Dunno if it's really worth the trouble though.

VVV Pretty sure threadbans need a Supermod or better, but as it happens—

Scent of a Grundle Dec 3, 2009 12:20 PM

There's probably enough of us who have a general idea of how the rules work for it to be feasible. I also don't mind looking things up for people if they have a question. And if we're not sure about a house rule, someone can just ask Pang about it as generally and unhelpfully as they can. Or we can just ask him about random unrelated rules to keep him guessing.

A thread here would probably work better than a google Wave. it's simpler and doesn't require any new players to go about signing up for things they don't want or need. I could set it up, but I'm not sure how the whole threadban thing works, so if i have time to fiddle around tonight i might try it.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Dec 3, 2009 02:00 PM

I made a thread for player planning, but I need Pang to post in it once to threadban him and only an admin can ban guests from a thread as far as I know.

I probably can do it actually but I've no idea how. I've only been a mod for about three years, you can't expect me to have worked it all out yet.

Zergrinch Dec 4, 2009 11:09 AM

Pang, I'd like to clear up something. Would my act of igniting my arrows to form improvised fire arrows count as part of the standard attack action (draw from quiver, expose to flame, load on longbow, fire), or would you count it as a minor action? I want to make sure I don't exceed my allotted actions quota when executing our secret plans. :)

The unmovable stubborn Dec 4, 2009 07:36 PM

I'm just counting it as part of your reload action (which, as a longbow user, is free).

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Dec 5, 2009 01:08 AM

Acer I'm gonna take your turn if you haven't taken it by the time I wake the fuck up tomorrow morning.

Zergrinch Dec 5, 2009 01:35 AM

I had the itch to go reread over 3,400 posts worth of "Let's Cast Magic Missile". (Man, I can't believe how ignorant I was). I also noticed I'm being very hypocritical in crying that Pang is trying to kill us, when all my posts prior to my joining the game were egging Pang on to kill the party already.

Anyway! I've gathered together these explanatory icons which you have posted before. Did I get them all, Mr. Pang (can't seem to find the first two icons that are currently on Gorg)?

Zergrinch Dec 7, 2009 08:59 AM

Huh, never used favorite hmm? I want to use it, I really do! But the stupid manual says I can't be stealthy if I have no cover at the end of my movement :(

What does "Intimidated" do? Is it like this "Fear" affliction in PHB, where the enemy runs away as fast as it can from you?

Okay, you totally edited in that pixilated spiritual weapon sprite right after I did my editing Anyway, here's an updated doodad you can stick into your opening post or something... (if you can shrink it better than me, that is!)

Being intimidated is what happens to someone you have successfully used Intimidate upon.

HTH

Zergrinch Dec 7, 2009 06:58 PM

Ahhh, so it's actually an icon that's GOOD TO HAVE :)

____

Derik has taken a total of 46HP damage. By my reckoning he should not be dead (Erik was at 46 damage before, and was still alive then) but very close to it. 4 HP damage should kill him dead.

It's not so bad, +10 to hit vs. AC is basically what I can do with non-careful attack arrows anyhoo, and it's probably comparable to your "Vicious Mockery" but with bigger damage, since I guess Will is usually 3 points behind AC. (Man, you got absolute max damage, nice rolls.)

Once Derik dies, maybe you can attack him on melee as well with a flaming sword wrapped around a cotton dress! Higher chance to hit as well, +10 vs 20 (10+ roll hits) compared to +7 vs 18 (11+ roll hits)... Course, you're a squishy bard, so eh...

____

As far as moves are concerned though, I was thinking how nice it would be if Gheth had Glock's charisma score and has the Consecrated Ground daily. 5HP regeneration per round per bloodied player in the zone, 1d6+4 radiant damage to every enemy in that 3x3...! Oh well, I guess that's all wishful thinking.

____

Pang, I want to swaddle my Bastard Sword in peasant dress, ignite it, and throw it to Garrmondo. Will I be able to do that, and attack Gorg, in one turn?

Proposed sequence:

Move: Go to AB-3
Minor: Retrieve sword, wrap around cotton dress, ignite, throw to Garr
Major: Shootery

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Dec 7, 2009 07:36 PM

The one HP bonus is what's crap about it, considering my constitution. A better choice would be Guiding Strike for a melee attack, or Misdirected Mark for general usefulness. Going to switch to the Former when given the opportunity.

Zergrinch Dec 7, 2009 07:53 PM

Horned Hold has tons of crossbows you can swipe from dead duergars, though you probably don't have proficiency till level up time.

Oh level up time, so far far away with 945 XP to go :(

So... for the cost of a minor action, you think it is plausible that I will let you perform 4 minor actions.

I'm going to think about this at great length and get back to you at the soonest possible opportuni—NO.

Additional Spam:
PS: Bards totally have crossbow proficiency but since Glock has a songblade he probably doesn't need a crossbow ever

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Dec 9, 2009 12:16 AM

Acer has given me permission to act on his behalf while he's currently swamped with work and advent banner creation.

This is not him stepping down, just letting you guys now I've got Gordy for a few days.

The unmovable stubborn Dec 10, 2009 02:42 PM

Zerg, I'm not going to tell you what you can and can't do but please keep in mind that trading in the organs and hides of nominally intelligent races is usually frowned on by most civilized persons.

Sarag Dec 10, 2009 03:10 PM

What is with Zerg and dismembering corpses?

Zergrinch Dec 10, 2009 07:55 PM

It's a HOBBY. He's a ranger man, he totally knows his taxidermy and use of creatures!

I only wanted a few GPs, is all :) Guess I will get them another way to fund my lust for adventurer gear...

I don't want to spring this on you Pang, so let's give you time to prepare a suitable list (or perhaps a suitable rejection)! I've been thumbing through the Adventurer's Vault, and I covet a mount. I don't think cheap horsies live in caves, but maybe some other usable mounts do! Soooo, I intend to buy one at the next opportunity if the price is right :)

_____

Denicalis' mention of "Darth and Droids" much earlier in the thread made me rather curious, so I started looking at it. Episode 344 had a bonus feature with a what-if frame-for-frame rendition of grapple rules.

Is this.... really based on a real game system? :O

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Dec 11, 2009 05:30 PM

For once Zerg is right, 179 - (6 + 7 -10 + 16 + 12 + 11 + 10 + 10 + 9 + 12 + 7 + 11 + 19) = 59. The bloody should have come from one of the two opportunity attacks, and there was only one health regen in there since the scan, so unless I'm missing something here...?

The unmovable stubborn Dec 11, 2009 06:08 PM

Okay, looking back over it I did fail to take into the account 13 damage that Gorg took between the time of the scan and the time I actually posted the scan results. Meaning that, yes, Gheth was indeed bloodied by Gheth's AoO. Sorry about that guys, good catch.

I will get those goggles away from you someday and then where will your precious mathematics be
