Miles, try to do the "tournament" (or competition AS THE REST OF THE WORLD CALLS IT) for this week before it's over. :)

...and I'll add you. XD

I was doing some worldwide matches. I managed to get my score up to 7000 before all the Japanese players came on and starting hurting it. I swear, they know all the shortcuts and shit. The one who kept beating me to first place kept getting lucky because I would pass him at the same time someone in last place got a blue shell causing me to get hit by it. I have bad luck tonight.

And then there was this other Japanese player who would always pick DK summit. If we played there he would somehow get 20 seconds ahead of everyone else. I wonder how he was doing that... His mii looked like Mario and his name was Mario in Katakana. :O

RABicle Jun 9, 2008 04:10 AM

He would've done that by jumping the gap where there is a fissure in the landscape. It's a massive shortcut that would seem obvious but can be hard to do. To pull it off, slow down on the hairpin bend BEFORE it.

Buizel Jun 9, 2008 01:34 PM

So, it seems like an online race on Grumble Volcano (or as I called it, "Kairyu favorite course [to get owned]" is going to be ruin by this ULTRA SHORTCUT!!!

YouTube Video
You'll know someone use this "shortcut" if the race ends around 1 minute 10 seconds because when the 1st player hit the finish line, the games waits 30 seconds for everybody else to "finish".

AND if everybody in the race start doing this "shortcut" they would just bump into each other and screw it up.

I'll say this is worst than the unplugging your router/LAN adapter trick as everyone's VRs will be affected. If Nintendo blocks that trick for online race then I wouldn't mind the trick being done offline.

Edit/Additional Spam: Blah! I just notice something. The only way to pull off this trick is that you need mushroom. So I guess someone would need to complete 1 lap to get mushroom(s) in order to lap around that rock. *see my next post*

Kairyu Jun 9, 2008 05:00 PM

Reminds me of that stupid wall jump shortcut in Wario's Stadium from Mario Kart 64 :(.
I've never seen it done online yet. Then again I hardly see Grumble Volcano being picked (again, probably because of that expliot.) Though it did screw up the regional and worldwide time trials.

@Miles:
The hairpin turn RABicle is talking about is pretty easy, even at high speeds. Depending on your kart/bike you can simply power slide over the cliff (before the turn) and land safely on the other side. It doesn't save you THAT much time in a online race but it is good for avoiding red shells. There is a similar shortcut in GCN DK Mountain but it's a little harder to do.

Sacred X Jun 9, 2008 05:33 PM

Lol, that's quite possibly the stage I hate the most, though this shortcut thing is interesting. Never knew about it. :P

Buizel Jun 9, 2008 08:17 PM

Ack! Someone found a way to do it without using mushroom!

YouTube Video
Now people are REALLY going to take advantage of it. I hope they bump each other to death and/or that small "mountain" starts falling down.

NovaX Jun 9, 2008 09:05 PM

Ugh, Grumble Volcano is one of my favourite stages. I'd hate for it to be ruined by this.

Chaotic Jun 9, 2008 09:07 PM

Ugh, I hate Grumble Volcano. <_<

It's always chosen for me on random offline.

Miles Jun 10, 2008 01:31 AM

I added everyone in the wiki to my buddy list but only Icy, Kairyu, and bigcn added me back. I'll give it a week or so before I delete any unconfirmed names.

You still have nothing to worry about since you never play Wii games online with us anyway. I don't think I've ever landmaster owned you in Brawl either. As your mighty Pokemon leader I demand you play with us.

Chaotic Jun 10, 2008 12:53 PM

I think I might actually be able to later tonight since I've moved my Wii downstairs for the purpose of Wii Fit. This means, my Wii will actually be near a stable connection and then I must add everyone on the Wiki to my system.

Just give me a time frame so I could race you people.

Buizel Jun 10, 2008 01:21 PM

Yeah, there's lots of people I haven't race against for a while. I always see Kairyu and Icy online and Tails and Sacred X from time to time.

One day I want to get a full room! There's nothing like some massive 12 players mayhem without the fear of loosing VR. :tpg:

Chaotic Jun 10, 2008 02:21 PM

And then run the first GFF Grand Prix.

Kairyu Jun 10, 2008 03:55 PM

I'm down for that.
I noticed most of us are only available on weekends so~ how about we do an all-cup Grand Prix on June 14th, Saturday afternoon? I know I will be free around that time since it'll be my b-day and all :3

Chaotic Jun 10, 2008 04:42 PM

Oh drat, this Saturday? Can't. Family party. D:

Eh, if I have time. Usually I just ask a bunch of people that are online on the spot. Plus, it will include other people than GFFer.

Only if it doesn't involve annoying twats pulling out their ethernet cable to their modem. Also, I won't lose all the time~ haven't you checked your Moonlight Highway record lately? Beaten :tpg:

This afternoon EST, yes. Check the records again. :tpg:

SuperSonic Jun 10, 2008 06:45 PM

I'll try to play more often, but I haven't even beaten all of the regular cups yet. I've beaten the retros though.

Kairyu Jun 10, 2008 07:18 PM

I think I added you before, Supersonic. But I'll check and make sure.

edit:
Oh right! Yeah, I'll go add you right now then.

Please bitch, check your records again. :333:

*I think I just started an unnecessary amount of competition*

SuperSonic Jun 10, 2008 07:22 PM

That might've been for Brawl, I didn't even know my friend code for Mario Kart until an hour ago. XD

Chaotic Jun 10, 2008 08:25 PM

Anyway, if anyone wants to join me online. I'll be on from now until about 10:30 PM EST or so. Gonna add in some friend codes and stuff and do some regional races.

Additional Spam:
Oh god dammit, Icy and Kai.

Hahaha, someone tried to exploit the glitch in Grumble Volcano! Didn't work out for him though. :(

Tried it myself, but I'm horrible at this stuff. And I totally didn't lose that round since that Ronald guy playing with us in those rounds apparently did worse than I did... And I was behind a lap. o_o

Hey, it's not my fault that the wonderful service that everybody love to hate called Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection took it's time to update the time trial (and yes I left my Wii on for hours).

Oh, and it's on bitch! XP

Anyway, it was fun race tonight. */lying*
I forgot that I shouldn't be playing on a Tuesday... and look what happen to me! */excuse?* Even people with 6000VR or less was beating me. ;_;

Chaotic Jun 11, 2008 01:26 AM

But ugh, what a horrible set for me tonight. ;_;

Fuck Rainbow Road, Maple Treeway, and Moonlight Highway. Those are the only three courses I went to today. Seriously. Both Maple Treeway and Rainbow Road got chosen back to back.

Kairyu Jun 11, 2008 02:13 AM

*checks the Mario Kart Wii Channel*
@Miles: Ohhhhh I see what you did there. You threw down the gauntlet. Time to beat the crap out of your records!

Oh, NOW it updates!

Nice races though. I'll get my revenge some other time xD

You'll find those are the most commonly picked tracks. Well add in Koopa Cape, DK Summit and Ghost Valley 2 =p.
