Wow, congratulations. What stage were you on when you beat him? That is, if you still remember.

Xaekid Dec 23, 2006 03:22 PM

Stage 5, I had to play safe with the last 3 bars.

The very last bar was truly epic. With my "main team" (Basch, Balthier, Fran) dealing all the damage and the second team (Ashe, Vaan, Penelo) just waiting and hoping to deal the killing blow.

Main team died left and right almost like 50 times, but somehow managed to deal enough damage to bring it down. When I saw Basch do a 10 hit combo on him, I knew they could pull it out.

Now only Omega left. :D

Spatula Dec 23, 2006 03:39 PM

So you're telling me Omega is harder than Y-dude. Holy shit. Even the guide says so. Once you beat this Omega man, tell me how he compares with the previous FF atmas and omegas.

He has far less HP than Hell Wyrm, ~1 million. It was a big discussion topic in other forums since the guide says he has 10 million, though it's been shown that it was only in the japanese version.

Edit: Whoops, forgot to mention that it's on youtube. Search for FFXII Omega.

He hits harder than Yiaz, but lasts nowhere near as long. There's a video of some guy with an unremarkable setup beating him in around 8 minutes. I'm amazed he hasn't realized that Berserk comes off with Dispel, though.

I just visited Drakor Laboratory. What a disappointment. I expected this to be more .... FFVI Magitek Factory like. It was just a whole bunch of rooms with switches and knobs. I honestly wanted this dungeon to be long, since I rarely get the chance to fight human enemies, since I find that much more exciting, with swords clashing. At least the Leviathan was interesting. I expected to see 10 foot test tubes, giant turbine engines, hydralic machines, conveyor belts of weapon armaments, bomb making devices, and all that jazz. Instead I get office space. Well, maybe all that is on floors 1 to 65, while I'm snooping around the administrative offices, oh well.

I like how you can't get on floor 69. Clearly it's the floor reserved for Imperial guards off duty and getting some R&R with comfort girls, why lie. Probably most of these would be viera, wanting to escape the woody life, oh wait.

At any rate, the boss was a joke, again, as expected. I really wonder now how I'll stack up against some of the easier Summons that I want to get. I'm at Balfonheim Port (lol is this Valkyrie Profile name for a city) and plan on doing some hunts and tons of sidequests, as the guidebook says many quests can be completed at this time. I hear the difficulty is also suppose to spike up.

Why were you expecting it to be like the magitek factory? I would've loved to see that FFXII-style, but from all the hints you got from the residents while you did the Sandalwood/Pinewood thing, it was simply going to be a research facility.

Spoiler:

Dear God, when I was in Eruyt and they wouldn't shut up about The Wood, crap like this was cooking in my head. Even worse when I found out the The Wood was a she. Male Viera am not endowed well?

IIRC, that isn't the only place where you can't access the 69th floor, but I may be wrong. I hate the place I'm talking about and won't go to check.
=/

Difficulty? Spike? I wouldn't know, I was overleveled for about 90% of the game, though the enemies weren't as much of a push over as the rest of the game. Now, the Subterra? That's pure sex my friend.

Either way, that's the penultimate dungeon and once you do that, all the sidequests/hunts are open to you (except the ones you missed).

SOLDIER_2825 Dec 23, 2006 09:40 PM

So what's the deal with the "Rangullet" in the Nabreus deadlands, any significance?

After you complete the Medallion for the Nu Mou in Old Dalan's place and return the Medallion to the Nu Mou in the Archades magick shop, enter the Deadlands from Salika and speak to them. They'll tell you that you have to go to the shrine of the Frog King (that's what it's shaped like). Once you get there, they'll open it and give you the lusterless medallion (which, after the Fury and Humbaba Mistant battles, becomes the Medallion of Might).

In other words, it's part of the sidequest that lets you acquire the esper Chaos. Attack-command is sealed in that battle, BTW.

Yeah, maybe not so steam punk as perhaps more... interesting. Just rooms and rooms of bulkhead consoles, how more boring can you get. I was even thinking more along the lines of Valkyrie Profile 2, what was that, Chateau de Something. I have the sandlewood but I can't seem to be using it now. =/

Eh, the setting was right for a technologically advanced (and refined) empire. It may have been boring, but it was under lockdown conditions in a research facility. Not to mention they were in enemy territory and didn't want to start a ruckus (which they didn't, but they weren't the cause).

If you take the aircar over to the last section of Archades with the gate crystal, and go past the guards there's an elevator. If you have the Sandalwood chop, you can access the highest level of Archadian society. Beware though, there's a bunch of snobs, along with gentry that have made something of a gambling/betting club out of the Phon Coast hunt club.

Spatula Dec 23, 2006 10:10 PM

I have yet to join the Phon Coast. And your explanation of them staying out of the "scientists labs down a few floors" satisfies my curiosity. I would have just liked to see another Leviathan or something like that, ya know. LOL Xenosaga.

PiccoloNamek Dec 23, 2006 10:24 PM

All right! I am well on my way to procuring the Tournesol. I already have three Gemsteels and three Empyreal Souls, now all I need are three Serpentariuses and that will be that! Unfortunately, the snake skins needed to make the Serpentariuses are proving to be the most annoying thing to get so far, because the Wild Snakes that I need to get them from are pretty rare. Any tips for this?

The map Toam Hills just south of the Nomad village has exactly 1 Wild Snake. Move through the map until you see pass a bridge and see a Slaven moving around in a little area. The Wild Snake slithers up just before you get there, just stick to the edge of the map as you approach the Slaven. He drops Snake Skin pretty often and you can steal it as well. Just set your gambits to Steal + Thief's Cuffs and you'll have enough soon enough.

Oh, and to make him respawn, had back through the village into the Gizas North Bank map and back to Toam Hills. That'll be 2 maps and he'll slither on up again.

Edit: This is during The Dry, by the way.

Well, there's something later on that'll satisfy your Leviathan/Xenosaga/steampunk cravings. And if I'm not mistaken, I see that you haven't joined the hunt club. This is a good thing, since you get some rare items very easily now. For example, Arioch is a Gargoyle Baron derivation that you can steal Sage's Ring from (Holy Absorb, MP Costs are halved). Just do what it takes to cause him to spawn (kill all the monsters in the Slumbermead and wait a bit) and steal. Then move a screen away and come back and steal again, and repeat until you have enough.

This works for all rare game, but if you've joined the club and you killed them, they won't respawn.

PiccoloNamek Dec 23, 2006 10:37 PM

I've been trying exactly that, he has only appeared once so far; I can't get him to reappear. I'll just have to keep trying.

Really? Went along the edge of the map towards the Slaven after zoning twice (first through the village and then the north bank)? That's strange, since it's a regular monster and would respawn just as if you'd killed a Hyena or Urstrix.

Keep trying, since it does work.

Lionking-Cyan Dec 24, 2006 04:48 AM

Ok, finally tomorrow i'm starting it ^^. I can't wait :cheese: .
When about will it come the time for me to lvl up vaan alone, so that i get the whole party as his lvl (about 30)?

PiccoloNamek Dec 24, 2006 01:17 PM

I finally got the damn Sword. This thing rules. 140 attack and 25 evasion. Now I feel the need to go fight a powerful foe.

Heh, congrats man. After all that hassle, getting the sword really is worth it. How about you try what I did and go straight to Yiazmat to try it out on him?

Nothing else is good fodder, except for maybe Omega and some monsters in Henne and the Shield Wyrms that are everywhere.

PiccoloNamek Dec 24, 2006 02:18 PM

Would Darkblades and Cat-ear hoods be useful for fighting him, assuming I didn't let him get out of hand?

Double Post:
Hey, this works pretty well. I'm getting 3-4 hits in a row constantly, for 9999 damage each. If I leave occasionally and don't let him get all riled up, this shouldn't be too hard at all. Long, but not hard.

You don't even need Darkblades, as he's very weak against Dark attacks. He was taking the maximum amount of damage from my Koga blade before and after the 50% mark.

And yeah, make sure he doesn't start freaking out. You'll know when that starts happening, as his attacks start coming in real fast (White, White, Stone, Rake, Cyclone, with increasing speed)

Let me give you an early congratulation for defeating Yiazmat. As long as you keep doing this, he won't go into his insane frenzy.

PiccoloNamek Dec 24, 2006 03:36 PM

In case anyone is wondering, the setup I'm using right now is: Everyone is set to buff themselves, not others. They all have Self: Haste, Curaga, Bravery, Protect, Shell, Esuna and Bubble. They also all have Arise. Basch also had Libra for the beginning of the fight, because I was using him to set off all of the traps. All of them have Yagyu Darkblades (which took a good while to attain, but worth it, IMO) and Cat-Ear hoods.

I'm having no trouble staying alive and the constant attacking means my MP is nearly always full. My characters are spread out in a triangle so AoE attacks won't get more than one of them.

How long did you have to kill Bombshells in order to get it to drop? I heard it has something like a 10-12% drop rate (that's generous when compared to the 1% rate that the Danjuro has). I still need that and the Danjuro to finish my collection of the best weapons in the game. The Zodiac Spear is excluded because that thing has a .01% chance of appearing, simply not worth it.

PiccoloNamek Dec 24, 2006 03:45 PM

Well, I didn't get them all at once. I already had one from way earlier when I killed my first bombshell (I nearly died fighting the Aeronite that was also there; this was when I was first able to access that part of the mines), and I got another when I went back through the mines again to face Gilgamesh (pure luck, that) and it took me around 45 minutes to an hour (roughly) of going back and forth waiting for the Bomb to respawn and seeing if it would drop a Blade when I killed it, to get the last one. I won't bother trying to get any more.

Double Post:
Hey, how long do I have to wait for him to cool down? He was spamming Deathstrike like mad, so I left and came back, but he was still doing it.

ZealPath Dec 24, 2006 04:42 PM

Does anyone know exactly how the Diamond Armlet works? Mainly so far as, does the person wearing it need to be in your current party of 3 for it to affect chest loot, and is it ever a bad idea to use it?

I know you're not supposed to equip it when grabbing the Zodiac Spear chest in Nabudis but that's no big deal since I already have my spear. It clearly seems to be increasing the amount of gil in some chests but if anyone knows exactly how it works I'd love to hear more, thanks.
