No biggie, just wanted to throw out there that if anyone was planning on getting Saint's Row for the PS3 this summer that the game's been cancelled.

On a high note Odin Sphere comes out in two weeks, so all is good.

eprox1 May 17, 2007 12:53 PM

Oh snap. Everybody with a PS3 sign up for the Warhawk Beta right now. May 24th, people.

SouthJag May 17, 2007 03:54 PM

Oh snap. Signed up, thanks for the link Bomber.

FUCK YOURE LUCKY. Its closed already. Damnit I need to check this thread more often.

Inhert May 19, 2007 12:50 PM

I registered too, I got a email for this beta... I just hope I'll get more lucky with this beta then the one for Home ...

Slayer X May 19, 2007 05:00 PM

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned anything from Sony's Gamer's Day or the Square Enix Perty yet. I know a lot of stuff was just expansion on already announced games but still, has no one got SOMETHING exciting to discuss?

Well with about 25 PS3 exclusive games and 15 non-exclusive games at the event I would have to say that the four strongest titles for the PS3 would have to be; Lair, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet 5 and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. And the biggest surprise would have to be Uncharted because even though some of the others may be bigger titles, this is the first we've seen of Uncharted that wasn't a screen. Also with gameplay mechanics from PoP and Gears of War, this game should be killer.

Iwata May 19, 2007 11:28 PM

Today the inevitable happened and i joined the legions of other PS3 owners who got dicked over by sony's BC and no less on one of the hardest PS2 games ever made.

Just beat Kagutsuchi in SMT:Nocturne and as he is dieing the PS3 freezes and so i do a soft reset with the Six axis and go to reload my save only to find it is corrupted and the only recent save that does load is 5 hours prior to where i was. Thanks alot for providing reliable hardware Sony!

Slayer X May 19, 2007 11:49 PM

Hmmm... that does suck. I'm not trying to justify anything however if I told you about all the RPG corruptions that used to happen to me in the PS1 days, well let's just say I saved on 2 memory cards each time I saved RPG progress. That in hand with all my X-box 360 corruptions and PS2 memory cards corrupting on my PS2 hardware. Point is that shit happens, and while it does suck big time, you can't really say that a whole console sucks due to one isolated accident. Once again in light of your situation I'd be pretty pissed too rational or not for I've played & beaten Nocturne myself.

eprox1 May 20, 2007 12:37 PM

Yeah, I am definitely going to keep my eye open for that Uncharted game. I always wondered what Naughty Dog was up to these days, and considering that Crash Bandicoot as well as Jak & Daxter were some of my favorite games when they initially came out, this game has some pretty high expectations from me.

I think I heard Miles complaining about the PS3 and saving issues with RPG games. It doesn't sound anything like an isolated incident, unless Iwata and Miles both have PS3s from the same batch, it may be a console issue.

Oh and people shouldn't HAVE to back things up, saving and loading is taken for granted these days.

Slayer X May 20, 2007 01:50 PM

I'm just saying that if someone doesn't back things up then it's hard for me to feel bad for them. Sure it sucks when you loose data, but you should always have a back-up plan. To expect things to work all the time is simply unrealistic.

As for RPG saves beeing an issue, this is news to me. I've never heard anything that's ever been thought to have to do with one another and the fact that there could be a higher failure rate due to emulation should also be expected too for it's never possible to have 100% emulation.

Once again, I'm not trying to justify anything here for I don't work for Sony and could care less about their reputation, I'm just saying that these things arn't that uncommon no matter the console or technology.

Inhert May 20, 2007 09:48 PM

I heard that all those save issues where coming from third party memory cards. I have always buy sony memory cards and never had any problems with them so I can't say more...

as for the ps3, I heard that people got all they virtual ps2 memory cards erased for no reason, but I never had this problem and I have 3 virtual memory cards in my ps3...

anyway it seem that the ps3 will be pretty busy in fall but not so much this summer >.<

Slayer X May 21, 2007 09:58 PM

For me my PS3 will be burning hot with;

The Darkness
Ninja Gaiden Ssigma
LAIR
Stranglehold

And if that wasn't bad enought there's also Odin Sphere coming out tomorrow.
And another 3 - 5 games for the 360 coming out later this summer. My God, need.. more... TIME!!

eprox1 May 23, 2007 02:59 AM

God...dammit. A bunch of people are getting there confirmation for the Warhawk beta. Everyone except me :(.

Apparently you can log in with your PS3, and then go to Account Management --> Transaction Mangement --> Services, and it will list the Warhawk beta with a date right next to it showing when it starts. Good luck to anyone who signed up in time. If you got in I officially hate you.

Slayer X May 23, 2007 09:11 AM

Well I haven't gotten anything yet either. If I don't get into this one after also not getting into the HOME one then I'll be mad. And they won't like me mad. I make this StarCraft guy here look like a Barbie doll... yeah.

russ May 23, 2007 09:23 AM

What are you going to do, whine on them? It's just a beta you know. The actual game will be released at some point in the not too distant future.

Yeah, this is me trying to tell overexcited video game nerds to not take something video game related too seriously. Screaming in a vacuum, I realize.

Slayer X May 23, 2007 11:33 AM

LOL, what made you voice your opinion here when half of the video game board is discussing games that arn't out yet. Also if you think that me making a hollow threat of a joke is bad, you should have seen the Halo 3 nerd massacre when their Beta was only delayed for 17hours. Let's just say that it blemished the term "nerd" for a good while. In the end though I managed to make someone else aggravated out of my own aggravation so life is good. Back to cleaning the car.

eprox1 May 23, 2007 12:31 PM

Here's another way to check to see if you got in - https://www.betatest.us.playstation.com/

Ugh. I guess if you haven't gotten in by now then you're not going to get in. I hate my life.

Metal Sphere May 23, 2007 02:13 PM

Well, good news for all you PS3 owners. The latest update lets you upscale various media up to 1080p, amongst other things. Not as "epic" an announcement as the rumored 2.0 firmware, but it's something:

Quote:

Latest PLAYSTATION 3 Firmware Update Provides PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and DVD Upscaling, Remote Play on PSP (PlayStation Portable) via the Internet and DLNA transfer of media content also enabled.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) announced today availability of the latest version of the PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) firmware. Version 1.80 features upscaling of PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games, and DVD movies up to full 1080p HD resolution when viewed on a compatible HD TV set.

The capability to upscale DVDs to HD quality is a feature normally only associated with top range DVD players, and its inclusion in the latest firmware upgrade now allows PS3 owners with an existing DVD collection to dramatically enhance the viewing pleasure of their DVD collection when viewed through a compatible HD TV set. Not only can DVD movies be enhanced to full 1080p HD quality but so too will PlayStation 2 and PlayStation games be upscaled to provide much improved gaming pleasure.

In a comprehensive update to PS3’s already impressive capabilities, Version 1.80 also allows users to enjoy Remote Play on their PSP across the internet, allowing them to access their PS3 anywhere in the world where a broadband internet connection is available2.

Version 1.80 also allows users on a home network to seamlessly view and play rich media content such as images, music and video on their PS3, that is stored on their DLNA3 enabled devices such as PCs and laptops elsewhere in the house, reinforcing PS3’s credentials as a home entertainment hub that truly deserves pride of place in the Living Room.

A host of other enhancements include the ability to print photo images stored on PS3’s hard disk or inserted storage media to a selection of Epson printers.

PS3 owners will be able to upgrade their PS3 with the latest Version 1.80 firmware from 24th May 2007.

1. DVD-ROM (including DVD Video content) can only be upscaled with HDMI compatible TV sets.

2. Use of Remote Play requires a powered up PS3 with Version 1.80 as well as PSP firmware version 3.50 which will be available at the end of May.

3. DLNA – Digital Living Network Alliance. For more info on DLNA, please see http://www.dlna.org/en/consumer/home

Inhert May 23, 2007 02:13 PM

god I didn't even got into this one either >.< ....

what I want to know now is: Will the upscaling of ps1 and ps2 game work only on the PAL ps3 or on all ps3? (since PAL ps3 use software emulation instead of hardware)

hikarub May 24, 2007 12:04 PM

Heh, still no wallpaper features....that sucks....

Well, at least they reckon we'll get an upgrade in graphics (I think) when playing PS2 games (I'm really not so sure for PS1 games though). Better quality DVD images is always a plus too I guess. Anyone uploaded the firmware yet and tried it out? I'll probably have a go later on...

Inhert May 24, 2007 02:50 PM

T_T I just saw you cobalt playing warhawk, I guess I really wasn't accepted in this one too (god not even the home beta, I'm so sad...)

so how is it? XD

rebelx24 May 24, 2007 03:56 PM

Hey, what's the deal with that 80 GB version of the system that's coming out? Can we expect a drop in price of the 60 GB version, and if so, by how much? Just wondering if anybody has any opinions on this.

It's for Korea only, and no, you cannot expect a price drop.

Slayer X May 24, 2007 05:03 PM

Sony said in a recent release that they're thinking of bringing it stateside. If they do they'll probably just put 80Gb HDDs in the 60GB models instead of going back to 2 SKUs. And no, you won't see a price cut because of this.

As for the new update. When it said that it upscales PS1 & 2 games to 1080p, does that mean that they're in native 16:9, or do I still have to play the games in 4:3?
