The buttons are fine, they're slightly bigger than the originals, but don't have the cool clicky feeling to them anymore. Same with the shoulder buttons. Dpad however, I dunno, I reckon it's worse. I haven't really spent much time with this thing yet (blol fifteen minutes or so), but it's smaller and .. slushy feeling. The directions sink into it more when you press them. I dunno if that sentence even made sense! Oh and the stylus is finally a decent, sensible size.

Looks pretty sweet :)

Question, does anyone know if places like EB or Gamestop are doing a trade-in discount dealie similar to when the GBA SP came up? I may consider getting one if that's the case. If not, I'm content with my normal DS.

Elixir Jun 6, 2006 01:34 AM

Hahaha, my local EB is having a deal here, where they'll give you $100 off the DS Lite if you trade in your current DS and two games. Which is, obviously, a rip off.

I think I'll try to sell my DS privately, and get myself a Lite. I hate the clicky buttons on the original DS so and the brightness is a nice addition. It's not something revolutionary like the GBA SP, though.

That's probably the only way I would get one as well. Even then, I would still only do it for a Navy or Black DS Lite, as those are the only colors I would even consider getting.

BurningRanger Jun 6, 2006 01:56 AM

Am I the only one who likes the DS's clicky buttons?

They feel so... SUBSTANTIVE when you press them.

Malmer Jun 6, 2006 02:29 AM

I like the clicky buttons as well, they feel as ok as anything, but I don't think I'll really notice when I turn to the dark side anyway...

Spoiler:
Envious.

='D
I just found out that there is a left handed option hidden in the demo, in the Sudoku section. SUUUUDOOOOKUUUUUU, so boring. ;_;

NovaX Jun 6, 2006 07:46 AM

I am in no rush to get a DS lite, maybe if something happens to my normal DS.

lol, I saw that deal today at my local EB, it also had the awesome deal of trading in your old XBOX with 41 games and get the XBOX 360 for only $50! Wow!

The Mageling Jun 6, 2006 01:50 PM

My store is doing this, can't speak for others, but we're offering $50 plus an extra $20 (a promotion that isn't speficially for DSes but we're doing it anyway) for original DS systems with preorder/purchase of a DS lite.

The day my imported lite came in they announced the US launch date. Oh well, it's still sexy.

scotty Jun 6, 2006 09:19 PM

I like the clicky buttons too, but they can be annoying when trying to stealth game (sitting in math class CLICKCLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK)

are you doing Math over there????

yes Maam.... (CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICKCLICK CLICK)

It's not that bad! If you can part with them, you can trade in your beloved Asphalt Urban GT, Ping Pals, and Sprung! The EB employee's voice will probably crack as he'll have to call for his manager to confirm whether or not the games exceed the value of the "EB game guarantee" they're always trying to push.

(In all honesty, some of the DS' launch titles weren't that hot. I could see some people trading in their Mario 64s and Yoshi Touch & Gos for a few extra dollars.)

Well, the DS + 2 games deal is for $100 dollars in my currency. You'd get $62 US for your DS and 2 games. The problem is, they don't even care if your DS is brand new or not. I've treated mine with care since I purchased it in january, and places like EB don't care for stuff like that. It's all "the more you have, the more you get" with them.

RABicle Jun 7, 2006 01:23 AM

Ok DS Lite owners. MUST KNOW THIS. Transfering Wifi Friend vode over so you dont erase all your rcords when you play on the new system. How does this work?

Infernal Monkey Jun 7, 2006 01:28 AM

Oh yeah, I totally forgot to do that before I sold off my original DS this morning. WHOOPS. My 0 wins record in Tony Hawk, gone. Shattered forever. Depressing. And so on.

LS Jun 7, 2006 07:21 AM

So whats a good cleaner for DS lite? Seriously its hard to keep this thing clean, everytime you play it, fingerprints appear. So if anyone knows a good cleaner and a good Screen protector.

Luckily in hongkong they gave me a free screenprotector and a spare stylus but i kinda messed up putting the screen protector thus screen protector being thrown away, which is sad.

BurningRanger Jun 7, 2006 02:52 PM

I'm not sure what's stopping you from using a cloth and some water/isopropyl alcohol.

LS Jun 7, 2006 05:44 PM

Well i wanna know if thats a is safe to clean the screens.

Infernal Monkey Jun 7, 2006 09:26 PM

I just use one of those cloth things used for cleaning glasses. Cost a massive buck twenty, they work great on both DS and DS lite. And now that lite is all iPudding glossy shiny, it gets even more use. Fingerprints and crap EVERYWHERE.

nazpyro Jun 7, 2006 09:27 PM

Yeah water and a cloth gets the job done. Even just wiping it with my t-shirt gets the job done. The DS Lite is even harsher as the fingerprints smear the outer shell as well, more easily than the regular DS.

Edit: Just saw INFERNAL MONKEY's [is my hero] post... beat me to it. But yeah, fingerprints and crap EVERYWHERE.

Elixir Jun 9, 2006 07:19 PM

Question.

Are the DS Lite's screens more sensitive than the original DS? (ie. will I need a screen protector?) And, I'd like to know if the DS Lite's screens have different models. Are they thicker and stronger, or thinner and weaker than the original? The original DS has two models, which are the original and grid pattern.

T1249NTSCJ Jun 10, 2006 06:06 PM

So just out of curiosity, anyone plan on heading down to Nintendo World?
I'll probably be upstairs making a fool out of myself playing Mario DDR. :edgarrock:

Both of which made no difference.

When I used the Lite, the screen was actually much less sensitive than the original DS, in that I had to press a lot harder with the stylus in order for it to register.

I know, but the grid pattern one was ugly. Up close I could see them. (Especially on Ouendan's title screen, or on Bomberman's grassy level.)

Well, I'm going to get a DS Lite very soon. From what I understand, the touchscreen is neither grid nor default, but it's own different style. I checked Nintendo's website on it, and apparently the touchscreen is "stronger."

Infernal Monkey Jun 10, 2006 10:22 PM

The grid design's still being used, unless my DS lite is broken or something. You can easily see the difference between the two screens, especially on 2D games like Bomberman and Guilty Gear which use both as one big screen. The touch screen's sensitivity seems about the same to me, only thing now is it reacts to the borders of the screen. My old DS had like an invisible barrier or something all around.
