Oh that's easy for you to say when you have a batshit insane computer.

The 360 version has slowdown too, but for the price of a PS3, $600US could probably upgrade any current computer into oblivion. (hi pun)

garthvadr3 Mar 24, 2007 08:34 AM

Slayer, the reason Oblivion does not run well on your computer is mainly your 9800 PRO. That graphics card it waaaay outdated for that game. It's two generations behind what the game was developed for. Newer games also fare better with at least an athlon 64 or maybe a dual core processor. But I bet yor biggest bottleneck is with your gfx card.

If I ran Oblivion on my Nvidia7800GT it would probably run at a 720P equivilent resolution and look and run at least near if not better than the console counterparts.

FatsDomino Mar 24, 2007 09:26 AM

I used to run Oblivion fine on a 7800GT like garth and I only ever had trouble with areas that had fucktons of grass. I just turn grass off and the game would run perfectly at 1920x1200 resolution. I have 2GB of ram and an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Dual Core Processor. I upgraded to Vista Ultimate recently and an 8800GTX and now Oblivion is like wut?

garthvadr3 Mar 24, 2007 11:38 AM

oh jesus!! isn't 1920x1200 a bit overkill on a computer monitor?!?!?!?!?! I run 1440x900 which is close to 720p. I did not mean 1080p!!!!!

you can certainly run it on 1440x900 with grass on my rig and it will run fine.

That is on a 19" widescreen LCD. Don't know what monitor you run on Acer :)

If you think about what the PS3 runs the game on, multi-core processor and a 7800 based gfx card you can figure that 9800 pro would be pretty obsolete on a computer running this game, wow, I didn't even think a 9800 pro would run BF2. Never thought anyone would attempt it with Oblivion.

1280x720 is 720p. You're doing it wrong. Additionally, though, 1080p on a monitor is 1920x1080, so Acer could probably run it in 1080i. Although, I wouldn't imagine something like a 15-21" monitor running 1080p Oblivion to be superior to, say, a 28-40" HDTV on 1080i. (See what I did there? A high end computer and high quality monitor would be roughly around the same price as a relatively large HDTV with 1080i.)

I haven't really dealt with 1080p, so I can't comment on if it's significantly better. From what I've heard of it, it's extremely bandwidth consuming.

garthvadr3 Mar 24, 2007 12:15 PM

no, I mean 1440 is close to 720 p although it is a higher res, it is a comparable widescreen res. Acer was running it in 1080p

Uh, what? Having a memory buffer to deinterlace a 1080i signal would eat up just as much processing power* as running at 1080p, seeing as how 1080i sources need to have twice the frame rate to be deinterlaced on a progressive display such as a computer monitor.

Not only that, but considering the distance one is sitting from their PC monitor most of the time, the comparison with display sizes is moot. Optimum viewing angles and distances start coming into play when you compare shit like that.

* Well, almost. But for the purposes of this comparison it's roughly the same thing.

A geforce 7800 gtx handles 1920x1200 just fine. My monitor is a 24 inch Dell. It's one of their first models but it's still very good. Perhaps in a few years I might get another bigger monitor with HDCP compliancey and such. Who knows they might even have OLEDs rampaging the market by then. But yeah I like me some very nice widescreen. =)

Everybody stop and rewind for a second. Where the hell did all of the hype for Motorstorm go. I haven't been home in about three months to try out anything with my PS3, so I haven't gotten a chance to really go out and purchase it. I would have expected everybody to be talking about it, but nobody has really said anything. I heard it is severely lacking in single play features, but online is a blast. Does anybody have this game? Is it worth a purchase?

Inhert Mar 28, 2007 05:34 PM

motorstorm is good but the lack of content just make it more like a demo than a full game. there,s only 8 track (but all 8 are good) and only 2 mode, which is solo offline play and online play, so no offline multiplayer...

but graphically the game is amazing, very beautiful.

I guess it's the lack of content in the game that make people a little disappointed in the game, but I heard they are working on some new mode and new track or something that they will release on the playstation store... so wait and see

Slayer X Mar 28, 2007 05:58 PM

That's right. There's supposed to be a Time Trial mode + another(maybe) as well as new tracks. How many remain unknown.

I still use the PS3 for my PS2 games, but I'm glad I played things safe and kept my PS2 around for PS1 games and Guitar Hero. Too bad others didn't come to think along the same lines for thoes who still plan on playing a lot of PS1 games and Guitar Hero (and the few glitchy PS2 games). Hind sight 20/20 I suppose, wait and pick up a PS2 for like $20 in a year for you guys I suppose.

Yea I might have to buy another PS2, my previous one broke so thats why I couldn't keep my last one. I just hope when I get a PS2 it wont die out on me, but I rather have Sony fix the backwards compatibility on the PS3.

Slayer X Mar 28, 2007 11:46 PM

Same here but the BC of the PS3 really isn't all that bad. Unless your're playing it on a 60" HDTV right next to a PS2 playing the same game on a SDTV, you can't really notice the difference. Even IGN did a comparison with like FFXII and GoW2 and said that the games (especially PS1 games) are going to basically look like shit on an HDTV anyway, so the difference between the PS3 and a PS2 playing the same game really isn't all that different on an SDTV. I've been playing all my games except GH2 on my PS3 simply because stuff loads a good amount faster and the graphical issues of GoW2 are greatly reduced over that of the PS2. It's really not that bad on the PS3 now, unless you have the Euro model that is of course.

RYU Mar 29, 2007 06:18 AM

I'll buy pal version:

-is also ps3 pal have free reign games ps3?
-what last FW have when I'll get it?

Slayer X Mar 29, 2007 07:40 AM

All PS3s have the ability to be region free for that's a feature of Blu-Ray, not the system. The only thing is that it's up to developers to make that choice, and none have yet.

eprox1 Apr 10, 2007 01:04 AM

Just picked up Motorstorm. Online = awesome, even though I have yet to win a single race. That game desperatly needs more features, though :(. Here's hoping for a massive update at some point.

I also read that the latest Official Xbox Magazine confirms that Ace Combat 6 is only a timed exclusive. Hopefully we'll see some AC lovin' on the PS3, then.

hikarub Apr 10, 2007 02:52 AM

Here's a little something about Motorstorm: whatever you do, do NOT buy the japanese version of the game. It does NOT have online mode at all. I made this mistake thinking it would be the same....

....guess I should've realized something was up when the Japanese version came out a couple of months before the US release....

UltimaIchijouji Apr 10, 2007 04:39 AM

I got Oblivion. Huge game. I'm still trying to learn how to play efficiently and I've had it for almost a week. Also got another SIXAXIS for multiplayer fun in Resistance and my downloadable titles. Also bought Tekken for the hell of it.

I'm really starting to enjoy my PS3 now. Next up VF5 and Motorstorm.

Manny Biggz Apr 14, 2007 07:24 AM

Yeah, I picked up Oblivion 2 weeks ago, and went straight through the main quest. The last quest caught some crazy slowdown for me though. To the credit of the PS3, it was on for most of the day.

Inhert Apr 14, 2007 02:45 PM

I'm still not sure if I want oblivion, I tried it only a little on pc and it was ok, I remember that I find the game pretty hard for me... maybe I was only not use to it. But I don't know for some reason the game seem more appealing on the ps3 to me than it was on the PC. but I,m kind of broke lately and there's a lot of thing that I want to buy >.< so I have to choose XD

oh btw anyone tried MK2 on the ps3? how does it look? XD and how's the online play?

Cobalt Katze Apr 14, 2007 03:12 PM

MK2 is pretty sweet, very nostalgic. I couldn't remember any of the moves the first time haha. The online play is pretty smooth. It basically pits you up against someone else ala playing at the arcade. If you give up on continuing, the person starts playing computer opponents again.

One thing I have to say though: The menu before the game launches is ANNOYING AS HELL. The sound is SO LOUD, and is extremely grating and annoying. I have to mute things until the actual game loads it's that bad. It's like small children dying every time you move the cursor in the menu.

What happened to tekken 5:dr on psn

Hi,

I have downloaded tekken 5: dR from the PlayStation Nework not too long ago, around mid March. I got it for about 20 bucks. My question: What happened to the tekken 5 dr download purchase link on the PSN. I've not seen it for a while. Any answer would be good. Thanks.

Slayer X Apr 14, 2007 10:57 PM

The front page is just for new additions to the PSN. For the full catelog of downloads you have to select the View All tab, and then select the appropriate section that the content should be filed in and you should find it there.

Inhert Apr 14, 2007 11:13 PM

when you purchase something in the psn store, the icon of the items you buy disapear from your psn store, this is probably to prevent mistake, in case someone buy twice the same item.

if you need to download the item again, click on the download list and you'll have the list of all item in the psn store.

eprox1 Apr 15, 2007 11:27 PM

Is MKII just a port of the SNES game, or has it been enhanced like a lot of the other games Sony seems to be releasing?

I just read this article over at gamespot. Surprisingly, I think Warhawk is my most anticipated game so far this year. While the other ones look fucking fantastic, theres something about Warhawk that I want, now. The gameplay just looks so fast paced and insane, and if it is as intense as the videos make it out to be, then it looks like Quake III with planes. And I can't fucking wait.

And what's this it says about Killzone 2 in September? A hint of information that we may get, finally?
