I downloaded that cat thing, but I can't even get past the first screen. It's some sort of message involving the X button, but I can't advance despite pushing all the buttons.

Oh? It might be the copyright/autosave message? I dunno. It worked for me. But I can also read japanese. I'll look into it for you.

edit//
Screen 1: Black bg, passes through automatically
Screen 2: This software saves automatically bullshit, press X
Screen 3: Some other shit, just confirm it, press X (doesn't give button prompt)
Screen 4: Gender, confirm
Screen 5: Birth year, confirm
Screen 6: Birth month, confirm
Screen 7: Birth day, confirm
Screen 8: Blood type, confirm

etc etc etc. X is the only button you need. If you can't read moonspeak you can't play the game anyway though. You can still look at Toro and friends be ridiculously cute though.

hikarub Feb 25, 2007 09:26 PM

I might think about getting a Japanese account too, though the one we get for HK (ASIA) is almost similar. We also have trailers to Gundam Musou, Genji, Resistance, Virtua Fighter and others. We get downloadable demos (RR7, Resistance, Gran Turismo HD, MotorStorm) and even downloadable games for the PSP. The account is in English.

No Toro though....

Interestingly enough the PSN is currently down for maintnence. This is usually on Thursdays though. Any ideas? I know that I have one in mind ^^

UPDATE
No changes have been made it would seem but the PSN is now back up.

tommyd Feb 26, 2007 11:27 PM

Virtua Fighter 5 looks amazing!!
haven't played it much yet so can't comment on gameplay... but it looks good!!

(or maybe i'm just dying for a new game)...

Slayer X Feb 26, 2007 11:52 PM

VF5 is amazing. It's got depth, deficulty, and lots of ranks and items to earn in the quest mode. Some people may complain about the online mode, however it would never work nor has it ever worked for any fighting game. What did we ever do before online games? Oh yeah, we went and got friends, geez I almost forgot...

Anyhow, back to the point. Any reviewer or person who has simply played the game would tell you that it's definatly worth the purchase if you like fighting games.

VF5 Review Avg. 90%

Cobalt Katze Feb 27, 2007 04:34 AM

VF5 is indeed awesome :) Been playing a ton of Quest mode tonight, got up to 3rd Dan and won 2 official and 2 unofficial tournaments before logging off for the night :D

Slayer X Feb 27, 2007 10:25 AM

Mwahahaha....
I won the same amount of tournaments and have reached the rank of 4th dan, feel my wrath. lol ^^

Btw, using Jacky for Quest because I've already mastered Lei-Fei in VF4Evo's Quest mode.

Cobalt Katze Feb 27, 2007 01:15 PM

Well I suppose it may be a consolation that this is my first VF title I've played ever haha. The prospect of its depth and being a shiny PS3 game pulled me in, and like Ridge Racer 7 before it I'm becoming pretty engaged with a genre I haven't spent much time with in the past.

I only gotta say, this game needs me to get a stick... My thumb can only take so much abuse on the d-pad. Considering picking one up with whatever birthday money I happen to score.

Oh, and I'm working on Lion in quest mode. I hate his voice to the extreme, but he's especially fun to play.

Slayer X Feb 27, 2007 01:51 PM

Lion is a good character to start off with. And a good character in general.

I'm almost done getting my fighting style down with Jacky, I've completed my first Orb Disc and thinking of starting a second Quest profile. I'll probably go on to Vanessa next, I like her dual offensive/defensive fighting styles stuck into one character.

Also I'll put a request out here seeing how my other thread han't turn anything up yet. If anyone finds parts or the whole OST fo VF5 please let me know, I really want to get it.

Thanks ^^

IGN released a Motorstorm review. They liked it. 8.9. I don't like what they had to say about the camera angles though. Overall, I simply don't have much interest in that game.

Soldier Mar 1, 2007 01:17 AM

It sounds like it could be a lot of fun, but the small number of tracks leads me to believe that it wouldn't hold my interest for very long.

What's worse, it looks like Tekken 5: DR has been pushed back to March 8th. Seriously gay. :(

Also, I've been reading some BS rumors about VF5 receiving an online patch in the future. Where'd that come from?

The same place that BS " bioshock coming to PS3 " rumour came from, most likely.

Slayer X Mar 1, 2007 11:31 AM

The VF5 Online thing is a rumour for both the PS3 and 360. Sega said that it's going to be hard enough re-writing the game for the 360 nevermind online play. And there's no online or add-in support for the PS3 version so that's not going to happen either.

The Bioshock thing, 2K said that they're going to port the game to the PS3 after the games release on PC & 360. No further details, and it's on 1up and GameSpot sites.

-UPDATE-
Just got back home to update my PS3 and what do you know, but another kick ass feature now enabled on the system. Now not only can I use and HDD, Mouse, Keyboard, USB Controller, or USB thumbdrive of my choice. Now I can use ANY webcam on the system I like. That's right ANY WEBCAM. Unlike MS who made me go out and buy a $50 webcam for my 360 when I already have a $120 webcam, the PS3 lets me use any one of my choosing. Including the 360 webcam. Now maybe between the two systems I'll get my $50 worth out of the darn thing, sure wasn't getting it out of the 360 alone.

I'd sooner believe that then Sega magically adding an online mode to an offline game.

Also, it looks like Tekken 5 may be available today after all. Bad news is that we'll have to pay an extra $5 than the japanese. $20 is still a good deal for the game, though.

Slayer X Mar 1, 2007 01:55 PM

Don't be getting my hopes up man. You got a source for that?

2k never said that, it has always been idle speculation. They even announced that Bioshock will be an exclusive 360 title. I don't know about you, but i generally trust the developers word over say someone who isn't the dev's. A online patch for VF5 will happen before bioshock ever get's ported to the PS3. The PS3 of bioshock was removed from Gamespot, IGN and other gaming sites after the exclusive announcement and the 1up page i wouldn't consider reliable, as they report the game will be 49.99 when it is well-known all 360 games now retail for 59.99. If they can't even report the price correctly, what makes you think they know what they're talking about when they mention what platforms the game will be on.

Bioshock has as much chance to be on the PS3 as MGS4 has on being on the 360, very slim.

Slayer X Mar 1, 2007 04:12 PM

Crackdown was 49.99USD, or at least it should have been seeing how it was 59.99CAD.

On the other side, I don't really care if Bioshock comes to PS3 or not for the game doesn't interest. I might rent it for my 360, but other then that it looks too coring and without multiplayer probably won't have much of a replay value. Look at prey which was their last game. Great first time through, then it was an immediate trade-in.

Soldier Mar 1, 2007 04:23 PM

Ha ha ha. This is a major rumor I read in GAF, but I just had to share it here.

Quote:

RUMOR RUMOR RUMOR

It is from a banned site so take this with a BIG grain of salt.

Citing an anonymous source, K*taku says that Sony is set to unveil Playstation HOME. The site also mentions some choice quotes from recent interviews that back up the potential of this new feature.

My understanding/speculation:
From what it sounds like, there is a virtual room in your PS3 (kind of like Animal Crossing) where you keep "trophies or entitlements" (like XBOX Live) which will be a new "requirement" for all PS3 games. You will be able create your own avatar (Mii) to inhabit the room and other people will be able to check it out.

Sounds like they are taking the best parts of Xbox Live and the Nintendo Wii and making them into a cohesive whole in one system. Ripping off or not, putting all of the best features from all services into one system is a pretty ****ing smart move. Sounds very interesting. I'll believe it when I see it.

EDIT: I put rumor ALL OVER this OP. I'm definitely not misleading anybody into thinking this is fact, but we have prediction threads for NPD threads and hype threads for all sorts of games/systems/features and I think in that context, this thread is completely legit.
A lot of people are going to cry foul if this is true, but at the same time it sounds seriously awesome. Having entitlements is one thing, but being able to display them as the form of trophies in a virtual room with a Mii-type character sounds awesome. Something Nintendo should've considered. It would be especially cool if some of the entitlements manifested as clothes or apparel.

Hauton Mar 1, 2007 04:35 PM

If it was something like how Rainbow Six allowed you to put your face with a camera over, that would be pretty fucking awesome.

Slayer X Mar 1, 2007 04:35 PM

That would be a pretty cool feature, though not all that surprising to me.

Don't know if people remember but back when they first announced the PS3, before Wii and after 360 that the PS3 would have a "homepage" that you could customize like a webpage, but it was only viewable on a PS3, and this was essentually a person's interactive profile that people could surf.

That was something that they seemed to have lost since the system went into development. Glad to hear that they didn't totally forget about it.

The entitlement is something that people are screaming for on the PS3 with the success of the 360's achievement points. Something that I don't care about but many do.

And the character like Mii thing sounds too much like speculation/rumour to be true. That's a big feature to not announce ahead of time.

Soldier Mar 1, 2007 04:44 PM

Uh oh, and look at what Sony trademarked.

http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/8756/homefc1.jpg

This feels legit.

Also, the putting your face on a character thing is pretty much a given, since a future update is allowing compatibility with USB cameras. It's all coming together. :p

Hauton Mar 1, 2007 04:45 PM

http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/8756/homefc1.jpg

Trademark by Sony a few days ago.

Rumor Confirmed?

EDIT: Beaten, you bastard.

Soldier Mar 1, 2007 04:46 PM

Beat you by just a second.

Keep in mind that I don't consider this a groundbreaking feature, but between this, resolution upgrades for BC games, and downloading while playing, this would be a very sweet March update.

Slayer X Mar 1, 2007 04:47 PM

Still, the features are totally up in the air.
