The "DLC" is already on the disc---you are just downloading an unlock key.

Chaotic Aug 9, 2008 03:26 AM

Perhaps this would also be a good time to steal crap from my friends who blew off a bunch of money buying stuff in the XBL Marketplace.

Easier to system link the 360s together or buy a memory card unit (who the hell actually does that? ;_;)?

Seriously. What the fuck. I want my SCII Nightmare Helmet. :gonk:

I tried this out (unplugging internet, signing in under a different account that had not touched SCIV in the event it would somehow recognize that lacechan had grabbed the DLC) and I am able to access the DLC items just fine.

I'm not sure what the error is in your case

Chaotic Aug 9, 2008 04:55 AM

I'll probably just re-download the content or something.

Just a wild guess, but I hope that renaming my hard drive didn't mess with the content or anything... I doubt it would. :|

I can't answer for sure regarding the PS3. But with the 360, if you download something and then put the harddrive on a different 360, it won't let you use it unless you're logged in. Don't know if that helps any.

Shenlon Aug 9, 2008 10:02 AM

Well for the ps3 I think all you need to do is log into their account and view their download history to download it yourself. Although scarlet should know more about that psh >_>

Anyway new update on the game 1.02. Probably online stability. I hope they incorporate being able to chat while actually playing instead of being cut off right after the versus screen.

Additional Spam:
Ok so I have a question.
Tower of Souls floor 24, 240 point combo damage.

How da fruck?

EDIT: nevermind I found a trick with yoshimitsu which made it incredibly easy

Megalith Aug 9, 2008 05:56 PM

Well, the whole point of omitting chat from the actual matches is to cut down on lag.

Grawl Aug 9, 2008 10:01 PM

Is on-line gameplay broken, or is it just me (PS3)? I just battled a level 41 (I'm level 2) and once he didn't get his initial blow, he just spammed the same attack which I had no idea how to block. Also I just went against a lvl. 19 and once he didn't get his initial attack up and got surprised by my low attacks I could take him out easily.

What the fuck is up with this?

Chaotic Aug 9, 2008 11:05 PM

How do you think people level up so quickly? Skill? Ha!

People just care about winning. Spamming attacks is the norm on both PSN and Live.

Megalith Aug 10, 2008 02:44 AM

The online mode is good for fucking around---that's all. A reflex-based game is practically impossible, which is why everyone rushes down their opponent. GIs and quick-frame attacks can shut them up---too bad you can't rely on those online.

The best characters to use online are those with low attacks built into their movesets, and fast unblockables, which can be spammed all day and can't be guarded against. I just got owned by an Amy player---I'm not going to call her cheap because I'm unfamiliar with the character and how she plays offline, but she has an unblockable that seems like it comes out in 2 seconds, and a bunch of spammy regular attacks that not only move her forward, but are super-quick and end in lows.

Kostaki Aug 10, 2008 04:42 AM

I didn't even bother to level past 20 Online because there's little to no point with how shitty the network code is for the game. Soon as they get their shit in order with it I'll be more than happy to return to it.

There's really no excuse that VF5 online is practically lag free and this is full of shit. Get with it Namco.

Scarletdeath Aug 10, 2008 07:41 AM

Online is only great when playing with friends. If you actually want wins on Ranked, you have to spam. The lag makes timing of GIs and other moves near impossible. It's retarded, but you can't do anything about it.

Shenlon Aug 10, 2008 09:57 AM

I'm specifically avoiding ranked matches because of the people who go around and to the same combo over and over again. In unranked matches I just find people practicing with how good they are with a certain character, practicing how to spam moves, or just looking for a match to show off their created characters.
I'll most probably spam kilik once I do go for ranked matches, I'll just wait to see if the other player picks astharoth.
But yeah as scarlet said, it's mostly fun with friends because we can just fuck around and not take it all that seriously.

Manny Biggz Aug 10, 2008 12:28 PM

People hitting you with the same attack over and over again = frame advantage. That means that you should:

a. Block the move and then retaliate.
b. Block the move and then sidewalk and punish whiff.
c. Block the move and duck if it's a high.
d. Block the move and jump attack if it's a low.

Taco Aug 10, 2008 12:33 PM

Or guard impact it, since it's the same attack. If you can't recognize the pattern or rhythm to it then it's no wonder you keep getting destroyed by it.

Online? Stupid fucking advice. Listen to Manny.

map car man words telling me to do things Aug 10, 2008 12:43 PM

Just use your best attacks and heal when necessary.

Shenlon Aug 10, 2008 01:44 PM

I've been able to pull of some guard impacts online, on purpose.
If I ever do see the same combo performed over and over again I just simply throw a quick punch or kick since those tend to be quicker.

Rotorblade Aug 10, 2008 01:50 PM

It's not a matter of whether you can do it, so much as doing it consistently enough for it to be viable. Which, with online play's fucked up play standard, it's much more convenient to pick something that requires less stringent execution. IE (with due respect): Why even mention you can do it when it obviously isn't helping against spammers.

Kostaki Aug 10, 2008 03:45 PM

You're literally forced into choosing "Custom Match" and looking for those magic 4 and 5 bar latency people no matter what you do. But pretty much every Kilik, Siegfried, Astaroth, Nightmare, and Rock spammer can be dealt with using quick sidestepping and 8 way moves.

GI is simply not an option unless you're playing against a 5 bar latency opponent, and even then it's a high risk move. Just use someone you're familiar with, and wait for the proper timing to do something. Break through a spammer's guard one time, and keep the heat on them to win the match since they have no idea what to do under pressure.

I had a 22 winning streak at one point in Ranked using only Mitsurugi, so it is possible to have decent matches with people. I ended up losing to one badass Ivy player that had my number, but eh. That's the way you want to lose, when you do.

Scarletdeath Aug 10, 2008 04:29 PM

I don't even have the luxury of looking for those 4/5 bar players. Had better luck with quick match. Took me HOURS to get to level 20. Thank god I have that over and done with; even more so before the move-spam infestation began.

Hadn't encountered many problems with spammers though, Taki's jumps and rolls works like a charm.

SouthJag Aug 10, 2008 04:39 PM

I haven't played online yet -- what's the point of getting ranked higher? That unlock new things?

Scarletdeath Aug 10, 2008 04:42 PM

Go to Museum --> Battle Records. Look through the items in there. You will then find the only point to do so.

Megalith Aug 10, 2008 04:59 PM

5 bar connections mean nothing.

In fact, I ran into more "connecting..." messages with 5 bar players.

Manny Biggz Aug 10, 2008 09:56 PM

Dunno about you guys, but 5 bar matches were pretty much flawless for me on XBox Live.

Unless you block if first, that's exactly what you should NOT do. There are sometimes where you shouldn't retaliate at all too. If you're fighting against anyone with some any sort of knowledge of the game, they might use something like a combo that's safe on block for set ups. Some stuff even gives frame advantage on block.

If you guys want to really be viable at all in vs play, look this stuff up. If you don't know about somethign like frame advantage then I can kill you with something retarded like Liz's 3K. If you get hit by one, you're only option is to block/GI/JI the next one. If you try to move or interrupt it in anyway, it will interrupt because of the frame advantage that it gives. This is a example of a tool to use against mashers. It's called "training them to block". Of course, to the untrained, this will look like me being a cheap spamming bastard, when I'm really just making you look bad because of lack of knowledge. It's like someone not knowing they are able to attempt to block shots during a basketball game.

Just throwing that out there...
