Ummm dude, that article is completely false. It was even confirmed by Sakurai that it was fake so...

I made sure to note that I wasn't quite sure about that info, seeing as I hadn't been following the game that much until the site started updating.

But still, that's some pretty messed up stuff to be able to turn into this monstrosity. I wonder if his moveset will be different? Did anybody else notice that Giga Bowser's fire breath in Melee was exactly the same as Bowser's? If his moveset is the same like it was in Melee, hopefully his fire breath be improved.

Heh, I love the huge collision of themes in that screenshot. There's an overgrown, evil monster in front of a cel shaded smiling flower. :gonk: That's the one thing I love about Smash Bros. though - characters are totally out of place when they go into the worlds of other games - and it's awesome.

WolfDemon Jul 4, 2007 03:20 AM

Hell yes. I'd always wanted to control Giga Bowser. Now I'll have a reason to use Bowser. I never found him to be very useful in Melee. He's far too slow.

Black Mage Jul 4, 2007 09:54 AM

Slow? Nah. His moves have a lot of lag, yes, but that's what L canceling is for. He's undoubtedly one of the worst, but he can still be a monster fighting on par with even the top tiers when used "correctly". In fact, here:

Koopacalypse.

It's great to see Giga Bowser in a controllable form, but I'm even happier to see that Zelda's fair and bair are back. Easily one of her most effective moves in Melee.

Azingno Jul 4, 2007 02:03 PM

Well I just found out something guys. There will NOT be a playable demo at E3 this year. The reason is most likily because Nintendo doesnt want anyone to know what surprises there are in this game. So unfortunately you guys wont be able to find any info on blogs and whatnot.

However there might be a DEMO VIDEO but there wont be a playable demo so yeah but dont worry there should still be a trailer and possibly some more info.

The_Griffin Jul 5, 2007 02:10 AM

Well, gents, you wanted details on the controls, and you got 'em!

Standard:

Strong:

Smash:

I'm still reserving judgement on this. It could be a little awkward using just the Wiimote, but we'll see if it's okay. Hell, who knows. It might turn out to be easier doing advanced stuff with it.

Lukage Jul 5, 2007 02:14 AM

LIGHT. SABRE. ACCIDENTALLY POSTED.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/howto...04_070705d.jpg

That's a lightsabre. Don't say otherwise.

Joe Wiewel Jul 5, 2007 02:22 AM

From what I can tell, it looks like using the first three controller schemes will be pretty the same as they always have been. (Duh, one's a Gamecube controller.) But using the Wiimote alone looks like it will be a real pain in the ass to do anything with.

I mean, pressing the direction button twice to do a regular strong attack? What the hell is this? Trying to pull off some special attack that's in a game like Mortal Kombat that requires a rapid succession of button entries? :gonk:

And pressing the 1 and 2 buttons at once to do a special attack looks like it will be awkward as hell. Only people with the widest of thumbs will be able to press the buttons at once without trouble. Other people may have to tilt their thumb sideways or use their index and middle fingers to play.

But who knows what Sakurai's got up his sleeve? Despite this appearance, this one could be the most effective controller scheme out of the four.

We'll just have to wait and see, but I doubt it since he's mentioned that he prefers the gamecube controller. Hopefully they thought of some nice workarounds to some issues that may come up with the other controllers.

Guru Jul 5, 2007 03:13 AM

The issue i can see with an unmounted analog stick (nunchuck) is that it's easy to get your hands misaligned, so you think you're pushing the stick to the right, and really you're pushing it diagonally in a general rightwards direction. If the sensitivity doesn't account by giving this a buffer, you might end up jumping or ducking instead of doing a smash attack.

The only reason I bring this up is because I've noticed some inconsistency with using the nunchuck analog with other Wii games.

For a game like Smash that's going to require some quicker-than-usual reaction time, having a traditional controller from the GameCube seems like the best idea to me.

Like you said, this could be the most effective control scheme. Despite how awkward it sounds (I have a long thumb, so holding the Wiimote by the edges with the thumbs on top doesn't sound too difficult), the concept of tapping sounds less appealing than just pressing the D-pad right.

Black Mage Jul 5, 2007 08:03 AM

I think someone is a little confused about how strong attacks work with the sideways Wii Remote. It's not that you have to tap right twice, but you hit the right directional button and hit the '2' button.

I don't know where this tap twice stuff is coming from.

FatsDomino Jul 5, 2007 08:12 AM

Yeah, actually it's probably easier to perform a smash this way. You may let go of the right directional button for a split second and then press it again and then 1 and 2 and instant smash. I wonder how they'll handle movement though. For running that might be two taps right or left but that isn't much different from what we've grown up with. I'm going to guess that the B trigger would be for shield/grab/dodge and A will be for taunting. I'll guess that 2 is for special moves. Not a terrible control scheme. It'll take some getting used to but I'll definitely try it out.

Pretty damn sweet level today:

The terrain is flat. I mean, really flat.

And the enemy leader, King Bulblin, makes cameo appearances. Occasionally, he uses bombs to blast holes in the stage.

Oh, what the FUCK.

You have got to be kidding. This is AWESOME.http://colonelskills.belkanairforce....ages/ace/1.gif

Wall Feces Jul 10, 2007 06:12 AM

The sheer amount of win in this game just continues to increase every day. I can't imagine what's next. Hopefully some cool E3 reveal like last year!

Monkey King Jul 10, 2007 06:54 AM

Wait... Sim City?! That's just ludicrous. I can't believe they actually went that far. If they got that obscure, there's hope for Mr. Game and Watch yet.

On a side note, I still find it kind of absurd to be seeing Mario in such realistically bump-mapped trousers.

Amayirot Akago Jul 10, 2007 07:40 AM

Dr. Wright has just been turned into a Super Smash Bros Brawl assist trophy! Is this awesome? Y/Y

Bizarrely obscure stuff like this being added makes me so much more excited for this already awesome game.

Dopefish Jul 10, 2007 09:21 AM

Well played, Nintendo. Well played.
