Maybe that's offtop, but I think that Ace Combat 2 OST is cut above the rest from all soundtracks in this franchise. Listen to Lightning Speed - it's really f-king explosive!
Of course, ACZ themes like Zero and Glacial Skies are truly exciting, but they're not memorably, and it's sad but true

seanne Apr 3, 2006 02:12 PM

I've got that soundtrack on my server Nosferatu. Feel free to pick it up.

Megalith Apr 4, 2006 03:00 AM

They should have kept the actors' faces hidden in the interviews.

Tails Apr 4, 2006 10:20 AM

Quick question here, why is it exactly that Gelb 2 is referred to as "The Fallen"? I didn't really get anything relating to that out of his post-defeat interview, so maybe one of you knows something I don't?

Those Su-37s they fly fucking rock though. Rear QAAM caught me off gaurd so bad. Too bad it missed. ::owned::

Spectacular game though. I'm going to go through as a Soldier (did Knight the first time around) and then probably Mercenary once the local release is out.

Spoiler:
the ambient/noise that plays in mission 12 "Waldreich Mountains" right after the Belkans set off their nukes. It's a pretty scary moment in the game with the radio jammed, HUD going crazy and all. Very intense.

I wish I had already completed the game to verify this with the BGM player option.

Ah, of course. I should have thought about that. I still don't understand why the first part is no where to be found though.

Megalith Apr 4, 2006 07:37 PM

I like how Pops and Bartlett aren't even mentioned.

They are somewhere in the game though.

Actually it's not true; you're just a fucking idiot.

EDIT: Sorry, that was a bit harsh of me. You're just a regular, garden-variety idiot.

To me it feels like he "fell" both fysically and spiritually when he was shot down. It's pretty apparent (when you've watched all the interviews) that he has been affected negatively by what happened to him during the war much more than any of the other ace aquad leaders. But yeah, it is a pretty ambigious title, like many if the others. And as far as I've been able to tell no specifics are given regarding why he's referred to as such.

It's not true if you've actually played the game. I know the soundtrack got considerably better for me when I finally got around to play the game after being busy to produce a high-quality rip.

In other news, is it just me or is Ace Combat Zero shorter than its predecessors?

Megalith Apr 5, 2006 05:22 PM

The branching paths make up for the smaller amount of missions.

I like how there's actually a mission after Zero, called Gauntlet.

I feels shorter, I agree. I don't know if feel that way because of the high expectations I had on the game or if it's because of my lacking feel of involvment and the shortidge of story sequences, but eitherway a couple of money missions would have been in order.

Not much of a mission though, but a good way of earning money.

Rock Apr 7, 2006 06:06 AM

Guys, I fucked up royally. Why isn't there an option to buy new planes and weapons prior to the final mission? I sold all my planes so I could afford a better one and now I'm stuck with the standard planes. I'm not feeling like flying a MiG-21 into Avalon.

Am I forced to start from scratch (this is my only savegame) or is there an option to go back to previous missions?

So after talking to you in chat and discovering you still had an Su-37, did you ever successfully complete the mission?

I would also like to state that Diapason (the mission where you take back Directus) is one of the greatest scenarios I've seen since Emancipation in 4. Listening to the citizens of Ustio celebrate driving the Belkans out of their capital mid mission is all kinds of fantastic. It kinda made you feel like you were actually fighting for something. And the level music for it is also very, very appropriate. Not quite as good as Emancipation, but still all kinds of awesome.

Rock Apr 9, 2006 08:03 AM

I tried again with the Su-37 and failed miserably, mainly because I'm stuck with ordinary missiles and XLAAs. Taking out the control locks in the Avalon trench is a pain without unguided bombs and 7 minutes isn't exactly plenty of time.

You can't replay old missions during a campaign. And since free mission is only unlocked after you've beaten the game once, you're stuck with what you have. But if you have the Su-37 it shouldn't be a problem right? That's like the best plane you can have at that point.

How many passes through Avalon do you need to destroy it with the Su-37? If come in slowly (close to stalling) you can take out atleast two locks in every room on each pass through Avalon. So in three passes through you should be able to completely destroy all three facilities. And even if you need more passes than that it shouldn't be a problem as I can't see how one pass could take more than at the most one minute.

Tails Apr 9, 2006 08:57 AM

You can do it in two. There are four locks, take out two with missiles and a third with guns. On your reverse run take out the fourth lock and the control. If you fire from a good enough angle around the approach wall you can take out all four locks in one run. This is assuming you do it at near stall speed and are close to the ceiling.

And yeah, I did it with a Su-37 too.

Yeah, no doubt. But since he is having problems clearing it at all it might be better to aim for three or four passes.

Megalith Apr 9, 2006 04:59 PM

I just use the FAEB. You just drop one, right.

::entire Avalon dam installation explodes::

Heroes really do exist.

Rock Apr 12, 2006 11:59 AM

After finally completing the game, I've updated the soundtrack rip with two new files, including the missing track for Mission 12A - Waldreich Mountains and the music that plays during the end credits, which is damn awesome. Get the new stuff here.

Also, I've noticed that Pixy looks exactly like me and I'm not even kidding. This struck me while watching the final interview clip. Really creepy. Now I need to find out who this actor is. Any clues on that?

Raijin Apr 13, 2006 10:37 AM

Looks like the soundtrack has been delayed. :/

Catalogue Number KICA-1398~99
Publisher King Records
Composition Keiki Kobayashi, Tetsukazu Nakanishi, Hiroshi Okubo, Junichi Nakatsuru
First Printing May 24, 2006
Price 3200 Yen

Tails Apr 14, 2006 01:00 PM

That is seriously lame. At least it's only a month delay. =\

Chris Dark Apr 20, 2006 05:36 AM

... D: Well, I WAS thinking of eating this week, but now that you all excited me over ACZ, I'm going to have to get nourishment from either the afterburner of my plane in the game or go outside and kidnap a child/pet to cook.

Thanks a lot, guys.

Megalith Apr 20, 2006 09:43 AM

What does that even mean.

Zeal Apr 20, 2006 06:36 PM

Can I just have the tactical nuclear cruise missiles (burst missiles) Pixy fires in Zero. I also like how the F22 Raptor and B2 Spirit utilize the same ECM technology as his plane.

There's the IGN review, if anyone really cares.
