One thing that many just fail to understand is that Nintendo doesn't have the right to publish all third party games. Just because they appeared on a N-console it doesn't mean that they are able to sell them on VC. They need special permission for that.

I think most of you know that already, but I get the impression that not everyone seems to realize it.

So we can't hold out hope that Squeenix might deign to give us Terranigma? I mean, a man CAN hope.

You can hope all you want. In the meantime, however, I'll be playing the original. Enjoy your hope!

Elixir Jun 16, 2007 05:24 AM

From what I understand, games are being released like they originally were. Which means no Terranigma for America and no Chrono Trigger for Europe. Or Earthbound for that matter.

Man, this makes me wish I had of imported a Wii. We STILL don't have Super Paper Mario, and I wouldn't even need a step down transformer, due to it's external power supply. Oh well, I have Kororinpa to amuse me with.

Infernal Monkey Jun 16, 2007 05:39 AM

Might happen with some titles (Terranigma), who knows. Probably not because lol Nintendo, but hey. I mean, TG-16 games are going to start appearing on the Aussie/Kiwi VC service next month, despite the system never getting released all those years ago. But then, if Square couldn't be arsed translating Chrono Trigger for the SNES and AGAIN for the PSone, there's probably no hope of Europe ever getting it.

VC fails until it gets Pilotwings 64 anyway. :cool smiley:

Sword Familiar Jun 16, 2007 07:50 AM

Elixir:

Yeah, that's also a limit, but since N doesn't own the license for Terranigma I find it nigh likely to happen, even in Europe. Of course, it's not one of those games that SE seems to think that highly of, so who knows. Maybe they'll release it for Eur, Aus and Jap at least. I highly doubt it, though.

Infernal Monkey:

Again, it's not ultimately up to Nintendo, and it's so much more than just localization and determining maturity levels. Chrono Trigger is still such an important title for SE, it's unlikely that N will get the permission to put it on VC. The same goes for, if not more so, the FFs.

I'm still positive that there will be more great titles for VC, just don't get your hopes up on one day finding those top third party titles. Then again, who knows?

Also, if I try to direct them to build anymore, the angel flies all the way to the right edge of the map, and I have to reset the game.

I can still play the other towns, and collect tribute in Fillmore, I just can't expand it anymore. Is this going to hold me back any, or should I start over?

Have you tried earthquaking? That tends to destroy stuff and makes the town rebuild so they might be able to fix up the glitches.

I'm going to try that once I level up enough. Right now I don't have enough SP.

RacinReaver Jun 18, 2007 10:29 AM

Be sure to do it in Northwall, I think that's the one where they give you a magic scroll. :p

(It's also the easiest way to hit max population in all of your towns. I think I might have to go back and play my rom of it tonight now. <3)

This week on Virtual Console US (6/18):

Bloody Wolf (TG16)
NES Open Tournament Golf (NES)
World Sports Competition (TG16)

Looks like shit to me...maybe not NES Open, I might try it when I get more points.

FatsDomino Jun 18, 2007 04:20 PM

Bloody Wolf's appeal is boosted by shitty competition. This is a once a freaking week thing Nintendo. Can you at the very fucking least give us 3 QUALITY titles a week? Spread as much buttery bullshit titles on the side all you want after that.

THE POWER OF WATER Jun 18, 2007 04:26 PM

Bloody Wolf is fun. :(

Additional Spam:
Well, when it's not hit by massive slowdown. :(

(which actually can help in the really hard areas)

Sword Familiar Jun 18, 2007 05:10 PM

NES Open is actually quite good as well.

FatsDomino Jun 18, 2007 07:11 PM

Old sport titles besides perhaps Mario Tennis for N64 don't interest me at all. I mean sure if they were like a dollar but they really need to rethink their points system if they want my money for certain NES titles. Yeah, yeah, it's all profit to them but 5 bucks is 5 bucks to me and I'd like to spend it on something consistently each week that I think is worthwhile. They need to stop with the constant crap.

My theory is that they can't stop since they only have crap to choose from in the first place. The only games that are approved by the third parties are the games they don't need anymore. There may be rare exceptions but, let's face it, VC isn't what we expected it to be. Hell, I'm pretty sure it isn't what Nintendo expected it to be either!

Guru Jun 19, 2007 12:58 AM

Ok so I never really thought about it but what do I do when I run out of memory blocks from downloading too many VC games?

ALSO Sonic 2 is awesome but it's a lot shorter than I remember it being :(

The Plane Is A Tiger Jun 19, 2007 01:05 AM

I think you can store VC games on SD cards (though they'll still only play on your Wii), but it's probably simpler to just delete them and redownload them when you feel like it.

FatsDomino Jun 19, 2007 11:59 AM

Unless it's changed via a recent update moving a VC as small as Donkey Kong for NES to an SD card takes fucking forever. I recommend just deleting titles you don't play as much and when you feel like it redownloading them. I might test the SD card thing myself but seriously I watched a video for moving Donkey Kong to an SD card and it took 2 minutes. That's retarded. You can't even play it from the SD card. I don't know what they plan on doing when VC titles start getting as big as 200 mb. They better as fuck start supporting external harddrives that you can play downloaded games from. Yeah sure, there will be a bunch of authentication nonsense to make sure you didn't just grab the games from the Internet but this needs to be done. Especially if they're gonna get original games or CD-based system games like Saturn or later TG games or hell those huge honking Neo Geo cartridges.

Sarmoti Jun 19, 2007 02:13 PM

I switch VC titles out to the SD card and back alot and it has yet to take 2 minutes for a switch.

It takes a about a minute for a Genesis game to copy over and even less for NES titles.

FatsDomino Jun 19, 2007 03:24 PM

For serious? I'm glad it's not two minutes anymore but it should still be practically instantaneous. I don't get why it even takes that long.

Worst VC week ever?

SuperSonic Jun 25, 2007 11:11 AM

This week on Virtual Console US (6/25):

China Warrior (TG16)
Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting (SNES)
F-Zero X (N64)

I wouldn't mind getting SF2 Turbo since it's the one I'm accustomed to playing except there are two problems:

1. No online multiplayer so I'd probably be playing it myself.
2. Even if there was multiplayer, I came to the realization via Xbox Live that I suck at Street Fighter.

Never played F-Zero but I'm sure you people are happy that there's another 64 title out.

FatsDomino Jun 25, 2007 11:53 AM

Unless someone can convince me that F-Zero X is worth getting if you already have F-Zero GX then not really. There are plenty of N64 titles just waiting to be played. Where's my Waverace 64 and Pilot Wings 64, Nintendo? Huh?!

Also, this memory and rumble nonsense for VC N64 games needs to be fixed like two months ago. Good god. Where's my update for Star Fox 64? The lack of rumble really kills the buzz of this nostalgia shot I should be receiving when I play this game.

SuperSonic Jul 2, 2007 11:05 AM

This week on Virtual Console US (7/2):

Dragon Spirit (TG16)
Ecco: The Tides of Time (Genesis)
Super Mario Bros. 2 (US) (NES)

I will be getting this game, even though I have the cart. Honestly, I have more fun playing this than SMB3, even though it is supposedly the "better" of the NES Mario games. For me, I just have more "fun" playing SMB2. I love the graphics, the music is ultra-catchy, the warp system rocks, bosses are fun... The unique elements such as grabbing a key and running from the masks or or bombing walls really advanced the Mario gameplay from SMB1. (Yeah I know SMB2 isn't "true" Mario - sacrilege! ) Shy Guys ftw!

Edit: I didn't know this, but you can "rate" VC games on Nintendo.com. Perhaps we should all rate the crap VC games as a 1 and the good games as a 5 and Nintendo will get the hint?

FatsDomino Jul 2, 2007 05:54 PM

I'm not going to lie. Super Mario Bros. 2 to me is better than 3 as well. It's just more fun. SMB3 always felt like a chore. Plus floating Princess is always awesome. Considering the time of SMB3's release the game really should have had a save function. SMB2 is a much quicker game so I can forgive the lack of a save system.
