That's only because online doesn't work for fighting games. The lag is killer, where in other genres it's managable. Hell, Street Fighter 2 didn't even run well over X-box LIVE, nor Capcom VS SNK2, nor Guilty Gear X, DOA4. Namco and Sega know this and therefore don't want to waste development time on something that can't work with today's internet.

Considering all those titles are coming in March, we'll have the same amount by then. So I'm rather "meh" on the subject of their launch being larger than the US's.
|
wow I'm really happy now that I got a 60gb version at launch because apparently Sony did a mistake with the price of the 60gb version in Canada. The 60gb version now cost 40$ more, so the price is 699$ instead of 659$ like I paid XD
well 40$ is enough to have bought me a new ps2 game or I could have got another sixaxis... still even if they did a mistake, I really don't think this is good publicity for Sony... |
Tokyo correspondant say Sony will raise ps3 price to $1000.
It's good my room mate has one. |
I'll believe it when I see it. Conventional news sources are some of the least reliable and biased kind of reporters of the gaming industry. I'll believe it when I hear it from an actual gaming news source. However thanks for the heads-up if things do decide to develope.
|
well the 1000$ thing I don't know if it's true but the price rise for the 60gb version in canada is true, just check any canada website like bestbuy and futureshop , they all change their price to 699$ when at launch it was 659$...

I have until christmas to get my PS3.... sadly no HDTV too... so I have to save up for that one as well... :( *sigh* Hi-Def gaming is really expensive :(

$999.95 ($780 US) is the official price for the PS3 in Australia, yes. They announced that months ago. :( $120 first party games, too ($90 US). Game companies completely raping the exchange rate is nothing new though! |
PS3's are now officially $1200 NZD here. That's $840 US dollars. Games will be $150 NZD ($104 US) a piece.
Yeah, no comment. |

It's almost as if these jokers don't want this thing to sell. |

In March 07, when the PS3 will be released for $1200 here, you'll alternatively be able to purchase a retail PS2 for $200 and which often includes a platinum (greatest hits) game. So basically for the price of a PS3 here, you can purchase a PS2 and roughly 20 games (throw another one in there if you get a free game with the console). If you want some games for the PS3, it'll be $1550 for a PS3, 2 games and an additional controller. That's $1077 USD. I'm not sure what all the above listed is in USD nor do I even care because I won't be purchasing one. That's the 60GB PS3 I'm talking about, anyway. It's a little difficult to comprehend Sony's reasoning behind this. If I read correctly, UK will pay $2 USD less for the PS3, which will still be 425 pounds/$848 (I think; off the top of my head) USD. A little price comparison in New Zealand dollars would be: PS3 60gb console: $1199.95 Xbox 360 Pro console: $679.95 Wii console: $499.95 |
The expected Danish price is around $865. If Xbox 360 is any indication, games'll be around $86-104.
I wouldn't be surprised if the price for PS3 is larger, though. |
Hahaha, no pun intended right Kilroy?
10 bucks says that they'll follow the same traits as the PS2 and quickly drop their price over the period of the next year. |
Most likely, it seems that Sony is trying to follow the trend of the PS2 in every way. From lack of systems, to sub par launch titles, to making the system hard to develope for. We'll have to wait and see if it works in the long run.

Heck, the PS2 still isn't $99 MSRP, which goes to show how stingy Sony is with the drops. Glad to know the old dog was just as costly over there as the PS3, since those prices are... apalling, to say the least. |
I couldn't find a Resistance thread anywhere, but I was wondering if anyone played it online. I just started a week or so ago but it would be cool if I could play with some of you guys. I do good in close quarters combat matches, but I suck bad at sniping.

So I was trying out PS2 games on the PS3 (with firmware 1.50) and shockingly FFXII looks like crap on a Bravia. Granted, it's a big TV, but the scaler is said to be really good, so I don't get what the fuck. For such an expensive TV, you'd think smaller resolution image wouldn't look like a dog puked out something digital.
Well sure, it's not actually as bad as I feared, and I can imagine PS2 games look much worse on some crappier TVs, but it does not bode well what with pretty much all manufacturers having moved to LCDs and other flat TVs. It kept bothering me how much of it was the PS3's fault and how much it's the LCD, so I hooked up a PS2 with component and sure enough it looked awful as well. Actually slightly better, but I wouldn't want to play my old games on an LCD if this is what an uber leet TV like Bravia produces. I came home and played the game on my 29" Trinitron and sure enough the picture was sharp and clear as ever. The anti-alias edges were no longer bigger than the characters' heads and you could see how sharp and detailed the textures were. The game looked like N64 graphics at times on the Bravia. I would love to see what it looks like on a regular TV through a PS3, though, and how different it would look on a smaller Bravia, whether it would be sharper and clearer, or simply the same digital-blurry crap, only smaller. Either way I am terrified and depressed about the notion that new expensive TVs will make your old games and DVDs look like shit (as opposed to at least as good as before, while many dream of improvements) and that you absolutely need HD image to get anything out of them in the first place. |

I'm sorry but I already have a Dreamcast. |
Elixir: People said the same things about the PS2 when it launched against the DC. So I wouldn't be so auick to start counting a TKO quite yet. The expansive chess game of the three players have only begun, and if you think that a company as large as Sony doesn't know what they're doing then you need to take a look at the bigger picture of what the PS3 is for the price, something that so few people are capable of doing. Secondly Sony is maintaining many of their developer relations and therefore the PS3 library is looking like it's going to be as large and as diverse as the PS2 one was. Sure developers are producing for multi-platform now, but they're not cutting the PS3 off and the same things happened between developers and the PS2 when it launched.
And as a reply to a statement you made in another thread, ZOE3 is already in the works and there has already been leaked screens featured in multiple magazines confirming the game. |

The newer Bravias, aren't really all that good with SD material. Absolutely gorgeous with HD material, PC input, but anything other than that looks atrocious. LCDs in general aren't very good at doing SD, but with a good scaler that can be overcome. BTW, Slayer, don't fuck with my heart man. Links to ZOE3 sexiness please. If there's a game that'll get me to buy a console this expensive, it'd probably be ZOE. |
Here's what I can find right now.
http://kotaku.com/gaming/konami/zone...n-3-204421.php http://www.gamespot.com/pages/unions...8&union_id=486 Double Post: If I play PS2 games that have 720P support on my PS3 set to 720P, will it activate the 720P support of the game automatically or do I have to engage it manually just as though I were playing it on a PS2? Secondly does any one know what the Cross Color Reduction Filter does exactly? |
there's no ps2 game that support 720p, at least not that I know of... there's some that are in 480p but really not much...
and the cross color reduction filter, is to reduce the color noise when using the composite or the s-video cable. So if you're using component or hdmi turn it off you don't need it. |
It must have been 480P that I was thinking of. Still, do I need to do it manually or does the PS3 automatically set it to 480P for me?
|
I can't say for sure, but I heard that with the new firmware, all ps2 game play automatically in 480p mode, but I'm not sure about that...
