Has anyone noticed the bad rap that Assassins have been getting on Factions?

A poll on some forum said most pick up groups prefer henchies over Assassins.

I have an A/R (stereotypical, I know) that does -10 degeneration on whatever I attack, and I can finish off most enemies with 1 run through of my combo, but I still cant get any groups to even look at me.

I know most assassins think they can be tanks and shit like that, but I honestly think people just dont like the Assassin class.

So, what do you think? Also this threads kinda dead right now anyway lol.

I was playing AB last night and one assassin said that he took out 3 players in a raw without dying. I took him with my ranger in few sec and his assassin friend to. There was two on one and I won. So it's quite hard to say anything about it. I think my self that assassin self made rox but PvP chars made by n00bz are useless.

I always wanted to play this game, and I guess I will give it a shot; good MMORPGs without a monthly fee are very rare. Holidays are coming up so I will have some time, maybe I will buy it in the next few days. Would be great if I could meet up with some of you ^_^

If someone happens to have an invitation key for me so that I can test the game, that would be more than awesome!

Gechmir Jul 21, 2006 02:39 PM

I'm also planning on buying this soon. I'll probably get the game itself and try it out before planning on snagging the expansion. They're both still relatively pricey on Ebay and Half.com, which is rare to see.

I recommend getting Factions first then picking up the original, main reason is not many people levelup toons via the original game so it can be quite hard to get groups for the missions (not to mention the ability to be 'ran' through the original zone to skip 85% of the missions dosn't help either).

Most people only use the original zones for gear farming or collecting the original only skills for their characters.

Oh and for anybody intrested you can contact me via 'Lady Vizu', I have alot of toons but I'm generally playing my shock warrior in AB/GvG. :)

Well...I would say it's a question of weither you want to learn how to play the game vs power leveling and jumping straight into the game. Granted Factions and Prophicies do have their tutorial areas, it's just with Prophicies, the learning curve of the game is more friendly to the new players; plus the quests yeild free skills (provided you don't get run through the game as Bishop mentioned.) Factions however works differently: true there is a step by step tutorial on how to play the game, but the learning curve is too sharp and new players that don't know the feeling of the game will get put in high level areas early and with little experience on how to handle those areas. Most quests don't give you free skills, but instead, high amounts of experience points. So the choice is this: Prophicies offers free skills with quests, takes longer to level up, more friendly to new players; Factions offers high experience quests, more friendly to experienced players, and a quicker run into the higher level areas of the game.

B4-Hunter Jul 24, 2006 05:16 AM

Yeah GW is about skills and long game play, when GWF is about a lot of experience points and low amount of skills that you have to buy from Skills merchant.

In GW and GWF you can always use Henches so it's ok to do some quests with them. In mission you need players so they will help you get bonus from it or cover your back while holding any quest item. I got both and both are good. I jump from one to another it depends from what I want to do.

Now that I think of it he's probably correct in the way that Factions kinda throws new players in the deep end even with the new tutorials provided. So yeah, when you get the game convince a friend to do the same so you can play through it together or just try and nab anyone on these boards with a spare character slot and patience/time to run through the game with. I’d volunteer but I’m kinda lacking in the time department at the moment (final year engineering studies ftl!).

I would get good ol Guild Wars before I got factions. The story and rhythm is alot better for someone new to the game.

If anything you could get both of them and play them both simultaneously. Its like 2 different games as far as story goes.

Malmer Jul 25, 2006 07:48 AM

I definitely wouldn't start out with Factions either - you'll be missing out on the whole feel of effort evolving your character.
In Factions you'll be max lvl in a day (every single little chore gives you what? 3000XP+). It's pretty clear that it's made for the veterans that don't have the 'time' for lvl'ing up.

My characters-info was lost in the last crash I guess, here they are:

R/Mo Malmer Dane
(lvl 20, ascended, infused - any build)

Mo/E Mjalmnir Mundilfare
(lvl 20, ascended, - Healer with some nuke)

Rt/N Mjalmnir Helblindi
(lvl 20, - MM)

... American server.

B4-Hunter Jul 29, 2006 07:04 PM

I hope that some of you are enjoying PvP event with characters from upcoming Nightfall =D I just tested both new classes and...

Derwish rox =D!! Then don't allow you to make all new char with skills you like but you have two builds for each new class and can test them. Be sure to check it before 30th =D

A crash? When, and what was lost? Did it totally nuke your characters?

I havent played the with the new characters yet (I just looked at skills and characters design), but Ive heard that the dervish is gonna need to be nerfed bad. Alot of angry pvp players.

I like both the new characters, but I thought the Paragon was a worthwhile addition to the group. I expect alot of people spamming "1 Monk and 1 Paragon, then we go."

2 paragons working in succession will be a fine group addition.

Haha nono, I meant the last GFF crash ;)
There used to be an updated list of people's characters in the first post, but I see it's not enforced this time around.

I have my hands full with trying out the Rt, so I think I'm good till Nightfall is out to try the two new classes...
Any official news on the Assassin and Ritualist being discontinued in future chapters issue?

Atleast its better then GW servers falling apart, lol.

I havent heard anything about them discontinuing the 2 new classes. I would actually prefer they keep them. The more additions to the game they make the larger the roster should be. It may also discourage people from playing them in PvP etc. I also read that they were gonna concentrate more on gameplay additions in future add ons then just new campaigns and characters.

Desert Penguin Aug 23, 2006 05:15 AM

I only have the original Guild Wars (Prophecies) as of now. My sister has both Prophecies and Factions. I might get Factions later on though.

I play European districts. My characters are:

Azmodan Civerb (Monk/Mesmer) - Level 12

Natalya Duriel (Warrior/Ranger) - Level 5

I have not been playing in a long time, but the real problem is that most Assasins try to be the next warrior. Not just most, but almost all. People see this and now do not want any assasins.

But for the record, Rangers are the best.

KnowsNothing Aug 30, 2006 09:37 PM

Just picked this up the other day (Prophecies), and I'm really surprised how fun it is. I didn't expect much.

Anyway, I'm Vincent Ramses, level 2 Elementalist/Mesmer, no guild yet.

*AkirA* Aug 31, 2006 09:32 AM

Ok guys, I just quit GW. I finally said enough and uninstalled it. No hard feelings, I just really need to quit playing. I think I have somewhere near 400 hours for the past year. Thats more then enough of one game for me. I know its not as hardcore as most, but I enjoy the free time.

Anyway, If none of my friends are interested I might throw my account to the wolves.

Turbo Aug 31, 2006 01:37 PM

Nah, keep the acount. Whats good about GW, is that you can stick it on the shelf for as long as you want, then, next summer, or when a new chapter comes out, re-install, stick your e-mail address + pwd in and you're ready to go.

*AkirA* Aug 31, 2006 02:17 PM

Yeah, Im sure ill get an itch to start playing again one day. I would regret having gotten rid of it. As for now though, im glad im done with it.

KnowsNothing Sep 1, 2006 12:26 AM

Hey, I'd like to join a GFF guild like DSB if that's cool. I'm still not totally comfortable with the game yet, but being part of a guild would make me get into it more and hopefully improve. I don't have Factions though (and I happen to be dead broke at the moment), so I can't chill in those regions :(

Again, I'm Vincent Ramses, Elementalist/Mesmer, lvl 4 at the moment. I'm in Ascalon most of the time, American server 1.

Grawl Sep 1, 2006 12:35 AM

The guild isn't active, but I'll add you anyway.
