Went to Best Buy today and picked up the first three seasons of The Pretender for $15 each, and the Doctor Who: The Complete First Series for $66.

Never seen The Pretender, so I decided to do a little reading up on it first. It seemed interesting enough, so I decided it was worth a blind purchase of the first three seasons at that price. Even if I don't like it (which I doubt), $45 isn't out too much money, and I can probably find someone who likes it to give it to as a gift.

As for Doctor Who, I spent way too much money for it (the only TV DVD set that I've bought that has cost more than that is La Femme Nikita season 1, which was like $80), but I know it'll be worth it. I watched the first two episodes when it premiered on the Sci Fi channel a few months ago, but after that I stopped watching when I found out it was edited. I heard that the DVD release was on July 4th, so I knew I wouldn't have to wait that long to see the rest of the episodes anyway.

I may get some more seasons of Seinfeld, since Target is selling them for $20 each this week. I've already spent so much though (with tax, the total was two cents shy of $120), and I plan on buying ER season 5 next week and Curb Your Enthusiasm season 5, so I may have to pass on these.

Iron Giant for $13 AU. Score, no?

Rockgamer Jul 12, 2006 01:21 AM

Today I bought ER Season 5, which I've been waiting forever to get, and the first two seasons of Reno 911! on DVD.

ER is like the best show that I've discovered from watching TV shows on DVD. I picked up the first season on a whim one day, as I saw it was cheap at Wal-Mart. After about a month or so, I started watching it, and it was fucking great! By the time I had finished it (it only took me about three weeks to watch all the episodes), I had found out that season 4 was about to come out. Because of this, Circuit City put the first three seasons on sale for $20, so I used this oppurtunity to pick up seasons 2 and 3 on the cheap, and I also managed to get season 4 that same week. I finished all of those episodes in a little over a month, so since about January I've been waiting for more of this show to be released on DVD. Season 5 just came out today, so I bought it as soon as I could!

Reno 911! is a little different. I remember watching some of this show back when it first came on, and I thought it was pretty stupid. A couple of years later, I watched some more of this show, and I thought it was fucking hilarious! I don't know if my taste changed, or if I just caught a bad episode, but now I figure I like this show enough to give it a chance on DVD. Since season 3 came out this week, Circuit City was selling the first two season for $18 each. I figured I would just get these two sets for now, make sure I like them, and then get season 3 sometime later.

When I was at the coast we went into a Goodwill (they have really good used/consignment shops there), and I picked up this for $1:

Presidents of the United States of America
Popllama records/Columbia 1995

I never really had a burning desire to own the source of the songs "Lump" or "Peaches," but I figured for $1 how much could I hate it? And you know what, I kinda like it. Makes me think of what would have happened if Phoebe from Friends had actually made an album.

And it brings back memories from Middle School ;_;.

All That Remains - Behind Silence and Solitude
All That Remains - The Fall of Ideals

I preordered the Fall of Ideals and got a shirt, two posters and their first album. It finally arrived in the mail today.

Gratch Jul 15, 2006 04:44 PM

Finally broke down and bought 'Snatch' on DVD yesterday. I was wearing out Hollywood Video's copy.

Krelian Jul 15, 2006 04:56 PM

Planning on buying an Ulver - Blood Inside vinyl.

Radical Jul 20, 2006 05:17 PM

I bought Nirvana's Nevermind at Target the other day for $10. I've read reat things about it, and while it doesn't meet my expectations, it is a pretty good CD.

Rockgamer Jul 20, 2006 08:29 PM

I just bought The Pretender: The Complete Fourth Season at Target today for $29.99 (along with a free $5 gift card). I watched the first episode last night, and I really liked it, so I figured I would just go ahead and get the last season to finish off my collection (since I had just bought Seasons 1-3 a couple of weeks ago). Of course, there's still the TV movies, but I'm sure they'll release those eventually.

xman25 Aug 4, 2006 09:59 PM

I bought the second season of 'Millennium' on DVD today for $33 at Best Buy. The store brought the price down to $33 on all three seasons. They use to be $50. I now have all three seasons on DVD.

Wow, I've gotten a lot of stuff since my last post.

Animaniacs: Volume 1- Definitely one of my favorite cartoons as a kid, I imagine it's still as good now as it was then (or possibly even better, now that I'll probably get all the adult innuendo now).

The Boondocks: Season 1- Hands down my favorite show on Adult Swim, I've been wanting this ever since the firs season ended. Rewatching the episodes is good enough, but getting to see them uncensored will be even better.

Chappelle's Show: The Lost Episodes- I only saw the first episode on TV, so I figured I would just get the DVD to see the other two. Even if I had seen them, I probably would have gotten just for collection's sake (it was only $12 anyway).

Curb Your Enthusiasm: Season 5- Just bought this yesterday. I definitely have been waiting a while to see these episodes (I only collect this show on DVD, since I don't have HBO), as this is one of the funniest shows on TV right now (not to mention ever).

La Femme Nikita: Seasons 2 and 3- Ever since I finished season 1, I've been wanting to see more of this great show. The only problem had always been that the show was so expensive, usually around $80 a season (though the MSRP of each season was $100). Luckily, since season 4 was coming out last week, Best Buy decided to sell the first three seasons for only $38 each. This was definitely a deal I had to take advantage of, so I quickly grabbed up seasons 2 and 3 (season 4 was new though, so they were selling it for $65). Unfortunately, the packaging on my season 2 set was loose (one of the trays that holds the discs was completely separated from the spine, and the other two were loose), so I had to exchange it for another one. For that kind of deal though, a little extra hassle like that was nothing (I would have been thoroughly pissed, however, if this had happened to something that I paid full price for).

Mind of Mencia: Season 1- I saw a couple of episodes of this on TV back when it first came on, and it was pretty funny. Target was selling it for $10, so I figured I would get it so I could see the rest of the episodes and rewatch the ones I already saw.

Reno 911!: Season 3- Best Buy had a deal going on with Chappelle's Show: The Lost Episodes, that when you buy it you get $5 off the purchase of some other Comedy Central shows. Since I had just got the first two seasons a few weeks prior, I figured I would get season 3 with this deal. It was already on sale for $20, but with the deal I managed to get it for $15.

Robot Chicken: Season 1- The second funniest show on Adult Swim. I've been saying for a while that I would get this (just like another show, Drawn Together), but I just never had. Target had it going for $20, so I just got it.

After seeing Miami Vice on the theater, I dropped by the DVD store and got Azumi. I've just seen the first 40 minutes or so. Quite entertaining.

Really considering the purchase of The Descent, since I saw it somewhere at a pretty fair price.

I honestly can't remember the last media purchase I've made. I've made a lot of media acquisitions, but no purchases that I can remember.

liuu Aug 6, 2006 01:37 AM

I finally received my Infernal Affairs Trilogy limited edition box set (the version with 8 dvd). Yesasia finally stocked more of these so I could get it before it sold out again.

nazpyro Aug 6, 2006 01:47 AM

I just got the "Better Than Sliced Beats" and new "Chroma" albums from friend and fellow Maryland Alum '06, SGX (http://sgxmusic.com). Signed the CDs to "Naz" too just so I can say so when he makes it big one day. Freaking awesome electronic music.

acid Aug 6, 2006 11:30 AM

Kill Bill vol. 1 and 2 for $18 bucks. I was going to wait for the nodoubt-going-to-be-announced-tommorow-because-I-bought-the-standard-edition-DVD's set, but for both movies for so cheap, I had to take it.
Matrix: Revolutions - While it's easily my least liked of the trilogy, I do already own the other two and felt I needed to complete the collection. Add to that it was only 8 bucks. Hey, atleast the Neo/Smith fight is pretty cool.

Metallica - Kill 'em All - Don't own it for some reason, and it was on sale.

Ramones - Greatest Hits - Same sale as Metallica.

V for Vendetta Special Edition - I enjoyed it in theaters, and it as worht a purchase.

Rockgamer Aug 8, 2006 08:30 PM

I just bought Prison Break Season 1 at Best Buy today for $40. I was really undecided on whether to buy it at Best Buy or Target, since they both had different bonus disc with the set, but ultimately I chose Best Buy because their disc seemed better and it was cheaper there (just by a dollar, but still).

Basically the only reason I got it today was to make sure I got one of the bonus discs. I don't really need to watch the season again, as I pretty much remember everything that happened (it just had its season finale less than three months ago), but I may just quickly watch it again anyway since I'm not watching any other set right now (I just finished ER season 5 last night).

slayer25k Aug 8, 2006 09:13 PM

I finally received computerjockeys' "Plankton".

It's a damn good chill-out-electric-music CD with a lot of Asian influences.
Furthermore tracks like "My Golden Boy" or "B'come" were the German openings for Golden Boy and LUPINIII anime-series [not the album-version - yeah...mmh] - check them out at youtube.com ;)

So, if you're ought for some chilling during a nice summer rain - be sure to listen to this great CD.

Check German Amazon.de-link for some samples

=D If you're interested... buy it on amazon.de or ...mh... ask me for mp3~ ... or I'll just add some more review and add it on the GFF Music Exposure Club FTP ;)

My latest is Munich the movie, next it's gonna be V For Vendetta and two Dream Theater DVDs.

Synthesis Aug 8, 2006 10:35 PM

After taking my trig final and went and picked up the latest release by Breaking Benjamin - Phobia.

Their sound hasn't changed too much, but their single "Diary Of Jane" sounds a lot like So Cold from their previous album. It's still good though.

Schandmaul Aug 12, 2006 06:48 PM

My last purchase was a record of Haggard called Awaking The Centuries. I really like it. If i had to describe their music, I'd say "Deathmetal meets Classical music"

30 seconds of Heavenly Damnation :edgarrock:

for more info just visit www.haggard.de . You'll find soundfiles of their CDs there like the one I've posted.

Bernard Black Aug 12, 2006 07:02 PM

I finally found a copy of Blackwater Park by Opeth, something I have been trying to find for ages, and what's even better is it was in a special offer with other "non-chart" CD's, so I picked up Dream Theatre's Awake.

I'm so happy I'm a bargin hunter ^_^
