Haruhi is in limbo because of some disputes between the original author of the novels, the publisher of said novels, and of course probably the animations studio themselves got wrapped around it. They obviously cannot air or do anything about Season 2 untill the publisher/author allows them to.
They annouced Tonari no 801-chan because no way can they wait around forever, twirl their thumbs and HOPE the disputes end soon and they can air Haruhi 2. They gotta keep producing SOMETHING. I'm just surprised they didn't go for Little Busters next, since that is the next game Key created after Clannad. I wonder how much animation for Haruhi 2 was done before the publishers and author started their dispute. I would hate to be one of the animators sitting there, wondering when their hard work is ever gonna air. |
Looks to me like we finally have a response. And that means sitting through a few more weeks of Munto and Clannad ~AS~, but hey, it's nice to have some sort of confirmation.

Ya'll some fags. Haruhi-chan and Churuya-san have been airing for a few weeks, but Kadokawa is constantly removing the episodes from Youtube after a week or so.
Thankfully these guys have been preserving them. Go watch! |
Gah! Have Shamisen stopped the Haruhi-chan subs or something? They released episode 14 qui~te a while ago...and nothing since.

So what is even the story behind this? Did the author finally make another book or give everybody the okay that was holding this shit back? I remember there being all this stupid red tape preventing this.

Hopefully this airing meanings they've all worked out something. Can't believe they just aired a new episode with practically zero buzz.
Coal Guys, who are doing the K-ON sub, has stated they will also do Haruhi, I like what they did with K-on so far, so I am gonna watch their subs. Also, because this is broadcast in CHRONOLOGICAL order now, do not expect a new episode untill June 18th. The Mysterique Sign and the Lone Island Syndrome episodes are the next ones. If you 'insert' this new episode before The Mysterique Sign, Kyon's opening line in The Mysterique Sign now makes sense, since he mentioned the Tanabata Festival and some crazy thing that happened that night... |

Well, color me impressed. After all these years of waiting and still, the people behind it still managed to capture the essence of Haruhi really well. The magic is still there and needless to say, this makes for an excellent start.

Do my eyes deceive me? I was going over the new releases over at baka-updates and now see that a.f.k. have released their subs of episode 1 as well. Weren't they like, gone? Is this for real?! I guess there's just one way to find out.....better download this rightaway!

In case people wanna see Season 1 and 2 in the right chronological order, this link would help. My husband and I are caught up chronologically for Endless Eight. Novels timeline: Suzumiya Haruhi:Timeline - Baka-Tsuki That list above also includes the anime exclusive episode "Someday in the Rain", since it was also written by the novel's author and has a place in the timeline. No biggie really. One thing I miss from the first season is the next episode previews. I guess they're not needed any more since there's no differing episode order, but Kyon's correcting Haruhi and hearing other characters talk was just plain funny. And a.f.k.'s subs still rock! Yeah, I was kinda' thinking that as well....but then I started wondering how they would fit all that other stuff into just one more episode? Unless Endless Eight is actually a 3-parter?! Or maybe I'm just thinking too much and expecting a lot of crazy stuff getting packed in there...
