I like to go for no-kill playthroughs.

Everytime I go into an area, my objective is sneak in there, hold up every guard, get their items, and interrogate them to hear what they have to say.

Then I CQC and push them to the ground. Then I leave.

They don't know I left.

Spatula Mar 18, 2006 06:30 PM

Chasing "The End" around the fields was pretty fun. He's pretty harmless, you just gotta act fast with the cure option. Love sneaking up on him while he's sitting and snoring then CAP CAP CAP CAP with my AK, then when he runs away, it's sniping time! So far I think he's the easiest boss of the Cobra unit.

Oh yeah I cheated.

CHEAT CODE:

I recommend tranquilizing bosses. For not killing them, you get

Spoiler:
their camo.

For beating The End without killing him, you get

Spoiler:
a special tranquilizer sniper rifle (if I remember correctly).

Try to put info like this in spoiler tag cause someone may want to discover it by him self =(

Spatula Mar 18, 2006 07:19 PM

About the bosses:

!:
I really don't care for their camos. I just find that I have more ammo for killing rather than for the MK-22. Shot gun go boom

Sorry about that. I figured that wasn't something plot-related or hidden.

But I'll be more careful next time.

I've edited my previous post to include Spoiler tags.

Has anyone tried to play the Duel Mode? Normal Mode is pretty chellenging to get the top score, but I finished that all with highest score. The Special Mode is really tough (some of them.) I only got the high score on a few of them.

Slayer X Mar 18, 2006 11:21 PM

I've been busy in that mode myself and have gotten about as far as you. You are right though some of thoes specials are pretty darn hard. (right up there with European Extreme). But to this day though I still find the battle against Volgin the toughest battle in the game by far. If anyone has any good strategies for laying waste to this disturbing and powerful boss, plese post them here or PM me. ^^

I know that alot of people find the final battle hard, but I've done it so many times I can make them look like a joke.

The Fear Battle:
Spoiler (highlight to read):
Was it just me, or was the Fear realllllllly easy? Like, beat him in 1 minute on the first try easy?

All I did was stay in first-person mode, took out my mk22 tranq gun, watched where he jumped to (stealth camo wasn't too invisible), and shot him twice on each branch. He didn't even have a chance to shoot at me.

Slayer X Mar 19, 2006 12:03 AM

Here was my method to deal with Fear
:
He is quite easy. All I did was use the thermal goggles and the AK47 and he was down 1,2,3.

Spoiler:
I ran around shooting the frogs and mushrooms to make him come down and eat the poisoned food. This lowered his stamina so he spent more time on the ground. I then blew him away with me good ol' shotgun

I think The End and especially The Fury are hilariously easy on normal difficultly.

Spoiler:
The Fury just walks around thinking he's God. Well no. I run to the door on the one side and take out my sniper rifle and pin him three times in a row in his helmet. He then screams out, "SON OF A BIIIIIIITCHH!!!" and laughs from me ensued.

CAN'T TOUCH THIS!

B4-Hunter Mar 19, 2006 09:27 AM

THE END:
Spoiler:
You know that if you start fight with The End and save. Then set your PS2 data forward few year and then load. The End will be dead from old age =P?

Taterdemalion Mar 19, 2006 11:58 AM

I found all bosses easy on normal difficulty. It saddened me that I defeated them so easily.

Spoiler:
Why is everybody doing this?

Timberwolf Mar 19, 2006 01:52 PM

In the battle with The End,

Spoiler:
You can sneak up on him and hold him up,
Spoiler:
and get him to shake and give you his Moss Camo.

That's interesting. I should try that when I go through the game a second time.

The first time I fought The End, I was there for about 30-45 minutes because I didn't know any tricks for fighting him. I still found the battle fun. At that time, I didn't have the thermal goggles at all, so I had a hard time finding him.

I was near a cliff area just looking around, and noticed something shining at the cliffs on the other side. I used the scope and saw that The End hadn't spotted me yet. I remember running out of ammo for all weapons except for the handgun, so I had to use that to shoot The End even if he was on another cliff. It ended up working though.

makura Mar 19, 2006 03:22 PM

You guys should really try to beat the bosses in the Special Duel Mode.
You don't get any thermal goggles or anything for the fight with The Fear or The End. In fact, the fight with The End doesn't even let you have the Directional Microphone to hear where he is, plus he's constantly on the move and not sitting in one place for long. One headshot from The End, and you're dead. The konami code to show his location doesn't work for duel mode.

Spatula Mar 19, 2006 08:08 PM

Well, I just got the ending credits for this game. It's been fun. And also somewhat quite sad. I have to say I did roll a tear or two just after the VERY last battle, and the subsequent scenes as well.

Okay, I'm pretty sad trying to understand these type of games but at the VERY end after the credits
Spoiler:
It was Ocelot talking right? Who was he talking to? Remind me again of Big Boss' children. I know of Solid, Liquid, and Solidus in SOL. Also, who is the "director"? Mr. Kojima? Yeah he sure has a good time messing around with my head.

Also with EVA,
Spoiler:
It also pains me to see that she really was another spy at the end and was working for China. Oh well.

All in all, I think I liked this MGS game the most, followed by the first game, then SOL. They're all very well done, but this one takes the cake. It's got a lot of varied environments to keep you interested and it doesn't have to make you run around back and forth (1st game) and having to revisit old places over and over again (both 1st and 2nd game). I didn't like being couped up in the Big Shell.

I don't really know about playing this game another round anytime soon. I get this feeling of "regret" after beating pretty much every game, especially RPGs, or no matter how "fun" or light-hearted the game might be.

Back to that term paper due for tomorrow. :edgartpg:

Ocelot was

Spoiler:
the American spy. He was working with the American government. He was "Adam."

He was also
Spoiler:
The Boss's son (as revealed in a radio conversation if you call up EVA repeatedly right after the Ocelot shootout when you fall into the cave).

Spatula Mar 19, 2006 08:35 PM

OCELOT!!!
Spoiler:

Yeah, Ocelot was born June 1944 was it? The Boss had her baby on the battlefield, so by simple mathematics he's 20 in the game. I never like Ocelot much prior to, but this has "spunk", and I love his hand guestures with extending index and middle finger out.

But it's interesting, Ocelot in MGS2 wants to rebuild and strengthen "Mother Russia"? What's the sudden change? I remember this after you take pictures of Metal Gear Ray.

Funny, I thought Ocelot's special ability was shot-banking (only with his revolver, though). The third guy is Raikov.
On a related note, I think an interesting bonus for the online mode would have been levels based on previous games in the series...

I think you've mistaken him for Gurlukovich. He was the one that wanted to restore power to "mother Russia." Ocelot said he had no interest: "Like I said I came to take it back. Returned, to the Patriots!"

My memory has failed me.

Now this word is popping into my head. Why.
