About zee 360...

I'm thinking of getting one soon, but I'm a bit hesistant because of some problems I've heard happening to the console it self. I've read stories of people having to send their console in for repairs of freezing or red lights of death or something. It reminds me of the problems the first generation PS2's had when they first came out - I unfortunately was one of those people who had a defective 1st gen PS2. Can anyone shed some light on the 360 subject for me? Is it safe to go outside buy an Xbox 360?

If you've waited this long you may as well wait a bit more. There will probably be a price drop sometime soon after the holiday season. Furthermore I believe I've heard rumors about an uptated model which addresses some of the issues of the current one.

Are all the overheating issues I'm reading about true or are people just exaggerating?

Grundlefield Earth Nov 21, 2006 09:21 PM

Overexaggerated, my good sir.

Speaking of which... it's been awhile since there was talk of the new fabrication process. When is the 360 slated to move to the smaller nm chip? This should address the heat issues.

Elixir Nov 27, 2006 08:23 AM

I've been told that by using an xbox 360 VGA cable, and a CRT monitor which supports 1280x, you can run xbox 360 games at 720p. Is this true?

If so, awesome. I'd like to get a 360 for Viva Pinata, Chromehounds and Gears of War but I've put it on an infinite hold due to the fuss over high definitions. Acer told me it'd be wise to get a HDTV for a 360, but ultimately I don't want to start the next generation that way.

Also, when the fuck are they going to add Panzer Dragoon Orta and JSRF to their update lists? Sigh. Anyway, I'm in two mind's whether to purchase one, or hold off for a Wii.

FatsDomino Nov 28, 2006 08:19 AM

All I'm saying is if it's just a tv for gaming in your personal space that 32 inches, a good contrast ratio, and under $1500 should be your guideline for getting a tv that will last you through this generation. But hell if you can already use something you've got with a 30-60 dollar cable then why not. I'd just wonder if you can use that monitor for widescreen or anything.

Elixir Nov 28, 2006 10:43 AM

I dunno, but viewing high definition trailers of 360 games is great. My maximum resolution on this monitor can't do 1080i though, but I don't really mind.

I'm surprised at the amount of detail Gears of War has. Oh, and Oblivion looks great (not half as good as Gears of War) as well.

Malmer Nov 29, 2006 02:37 PM

Get a CRT HD TV. They cost half of LCD's, and the only reason I didn't get one is because they're unavailable. More or less sold out two months in advance over here.
Because it's a normal tube, you'll have no problems regarding contrast ratio or pixel trash. You'll have a TV that will last you a good many years till they've perfected LCD's or they make something better.
Look up on the Philips one's as they're slightly better than Samsung in this case. (Geometry should be perfect on the Philips).

Another thing. If you've waited this long, hold on just a couple of months more. The new low noise/heat 360 is due soon.
I'm waiting for it anyway, and hopefully by then the HD-DVD player will be out too.

And lastly, everyone should check out Assassins Creed.
The HD demonstration trailer at gametrailers is running on the 360, though said to look exactly the same on PS3.
If you haven't seen it yet, GTFO and return when you have =)

Grundlefield Earth Nov 30, 2006 02:12 AM

It does look better then Oblivion, but what Oblivion did in terms of volume will not be eclipsed anytime soon.

sabbey Dec 2, 2006 05:41 AM

Just wondering if anyone has purchased the two year extended service contract? Trying to gauge whether I should pony up the $60... ;)

Looking at Team XBOX, it seems many bitch that the console seems to break down out of nowhere! Oh well, will look into it at least.

Grundlefield Earth Dec 2, 2006 12:26 PM

I got it, but I leave my console on over 8 hours a day many days of the week and never had an issue in 13 months. The thing doesnt even get warm, but hey thats just my 360.

sabbey Dec 2, 2006 07:29 PM

Probably couldn't afford not too get one at this point... ;)

Yuna Dec 4, 2006 03:14 PM

I'm buying myself an Xbox 360 this month !!! It was worth the wait since it is a little cheaper and there are many great games now (err Gears of War).

Anyway, I'm buying the 360 together with 3 games, do you guys have an opinion ?
All I know is that I'm taking Dead or Alive 4 because I'm a fan of the series. Besides this one, I was thinkin in Project Gotham Racing 3 and Gears of War.
What d'you think ?

Kilroy Dec 4, 2006 04:12 PM

Oblivion is a pretty damn good choice too. It's long and fun. If you like such games, of course...

Grundlefield Earth Dec 4, 2006 07:42 PM

Yeah pretty good choices there. I am not that big of a fan of fighting games so I wouldn't pick DOA4 though.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Dec 6, 2006 08:36 AM

I'd get Dead Rising before I got DoA4, having played both. DoA4 doesn't really add anything to earlier incarnations except for flashier graphics.

*AkirA* Dec 6, 2006 10:20 PM

Dead Rising was a great game, but DoA4 has infinite replay value if you enjoy fighting online, and with friends. If your already a fan of the series you would appreciate the small differences, and new characters. I would take DoA4 over Dead, and get Dead as a rental.

Not sure if this is worth a new thread (please move the post accordingly if it is): The backward compatibility list was recently updated.

http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6163225.html?sid=6163225

list of added games:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Burnout 3: Takedown (support updated)
Conker: Live and Reloaded
Dead or Alive Ultimate
Destroy All Humans!
Dynasty Warriors 4
Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick
Ex Chaser (Japan only)
Family Guy
Far Cry: Instincts
Farenheit/Indigo Prophecy
I-Ninja
Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude
Mortal Kombat: Armageddon
MotoGP
Muzzle Flash (Japan only)
MX Unleashed
Open Season
Pariah
Plus Plumb 2 (Japan only)
Psychonauts
Psyvariar 2 Extend Edition (Japan only)
Rainbow Six: Lockdown
Rapala Pro Fishing
Rent-A-Hero no. 1 (Japan only)
Scarface
Shark Tale
Shenmue II
Soul Calibur II (North America only)
Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Tenerezza (Japan only)
The Incredibles
The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie
Ultimate Spider-Man
Wakeboarding Unleashed: Featuring Sean Murray
Whacked!
Winback2: Project Poseidon
Xiaolin Showdown

A lotta interesting titles there, like Conker, Soul Calibur 2, MKA, Larry and Shenmue 2. Personally I'm surprised they actually went and fixed Rent-a-hero No.1, considering that its a rare, japanese only cult game similar to Segagaga. I guess the DC -> Xbox fix that got Shenmue 2 working affected this game too, since it is too a DC to Xbox port.

Kilroy Dec 16, 2006 05:10 AM

Psychonauts, motherfucker. Do you play it?
Brilliant additions, for the most part. I-Ninja and Fahrenheit too.

Well fuck me. They're actually starting to add good games.

The B0mb Dec 18, 2006 02:29 PM

Yeah, I picked me up a 360 last week. Good stuff. I rented Gears Of War and Smackdown Vs Raw 2007.(Xmas is next week and I still have to buy gifts. So..could not afford games yet) Played threw the whole GOW on system link. Kinda dissapointed it is not that long. But It is an AWESOME game. SVR 07 has ups and downs but otherwise fun to make your guys and entrances. The free demos really surprised me. Thats awesome. I downloaded Rainbow 6 Vegas and it seems pretty damn good. I think that will be the first game I buy. Geometry Wars... is also interesting.

Yuna Dec 18, 2006 04:17 PM

Bought my x360 last week !!! God, this videogame is great !!!!

I've had an HDTV for a while but I didn't know it supported 1080i up until now, it's amazing how better games looks increase at higher resolutons !

Thanks about the suggestions guys, I ended up getting DOA4, Gotham 3, Gears of War, and then got a few other games: DOA Xtreme 2, Viva PiƱata (didn't like).

I just didn't get Oblivion because I have for PC.

Edit:
I just remembered, I was thinking of replaying my Ninja Gaiden Black on the xbox 360 becasue the graphics look much better, but I heard it has a few bugs in it. Did any of you tried playing NGB on your 360 ? Any glitches or graphics improvement ?
