The main problem with the black is I'm sure it'll attract fingerprints like nobody's business.

Rockgamer May 22, 2006 12:05 PM

Maybe so, but I'd rather have fingerprints over the possibility of dirt that the white one and any of the other lighter colors bring. Based on the sleek design, it looks like any fingerprints could be easily wiped away anyway.

Don't worry, sir!
I'm a pro, I've done this before.

... there used to be a pompous smiley, didn't there?

Soldier May 22, 2006 12:36 PM

The problem I have with that color is that it's similar to the PSP. I can imagine myself reaching for the handheld and end up with the wrong one. Between the black PSP, the black Motorolla, the black wireless PS2 pad, the black PS2, and the black remote, a milk-white DS would stick out nicely.

Besides, who needs a DS Lite when you can buy the original at a quality price?

give me your money.

Exactly the problem with the Enamel Navy. The Crystal White DS Lite still suffers the same problem as all the other ones though. It's just not as noticeable. Great job for Nintendo making a glossy outside, making it really PRONE to getting fingerprints.

But trust me, after a while, you tend to ignore it. You'd rather just play the game than freak out about fingerprints.

Free Brain Training demos with the Aussie DS Lite. Only a week to go!

Summonmaster May 24, 2006 12:35 AM

Unexpectedly, since it appears to be coming out soon, I'm selling my Nintendogs skin tainted DS (for much needed AN money) and then snagging this soon. Looks very sleek, but I had the impression that it was in light blue for some reason.

FatsDomino May 24, 2006 11:11 PM

Personally, I'd rather wait and get both Black and White officially released in the US. I don't enjoy importing systems because they don't count when you register them online. I was very annoyed when I tried doing that with my Japanese GBA SP.

Yeah, I'm somewhat disappointed by that. I was registering a bunch of recently purchased Nintendo stuff today, and my imported Lite won't ever be able to be regged. Maybe I'll get a US one some day... just have to find a more pushing reason to.

Infernal Monkey May 25, 2006 01:45 AM

IGN reveals what the American box art will look like so you don't buy a set of six large pots by mistake.

Iwata Edition just broke all console sales records. Ever.

On other news, here comes the extra small slim-edition Rumble Pak for the DS Lite.
It's available in Japan, but I guess we'll be seeing it soon on lik-sang, ebay and whatnot.

Rumble Get!

Holy crap is it me or is the DS Lite coming out in Australia in around 2 days?

Wow, the announcement of the Australian DS Lite date seems like yesterday. Unfortunately for me, that means my hunger cost me my DS Lite -___-'' (so poor)

Spatula May 29, 2006 01:05 PM

I've made an entry about getting a DS for my sis' bday, and all along comes this DS Lite. ;_; Will it be in time for the birthday? July 17? As I'm pretty ignorant about most portable gaming devices. If not, I guess I'll get her the regular DS then. $150 CDN sound resonable for a DS?

EDIT
Quote:

The DS Lite is out June 11 in US (White only). It'll retail for 129.99 (no word on any reg DS price shifts)

WHEE!!!! $129 US ain't so bad. Now I want one!

Rockgamer May 29, 2006 01:08 PM

I actually just posted in your journal telling you about the DS Lite, so go read that. And yes, it will be out before her birthday.

Spatula May 29, 2006 01:15 PM

This is most excellent news. I'm getting excited over something that I'm going to give away as a gift. Damn, I got to find a way to coax her that she doesn't want it anymore.

[Spatula] Here you go, happy birthday!

[rugrat] OHH!! thankies!

1 week later.

[Spatula] Yeah so, this new DS (lite) of yours is pretty boring eh? So um, I'd feel kinda bad returning it to the store. How about we start sharing the DS?

***[rugrat] Yeah, I like watching the anime they show on TV. Sure, you can have it.

[Spatula] WIN!

MORE LIKE:

***[rugrat] Nice try, now I'm not gonna get you your Final Fantasy game with my allowance!

Stealth May 29, 2006 02:59 PM

Why don't you stop being selfish, and buy your own as well?

Spatula May 29, 2006 03:07 PM

I could do that..... but no. :tpg:

Now you see how birthdays are run in our family.

LOVE IS OVER.

EB stores are apparently getting it in this afternoon. Knowing them, they'll start selling it straight away.

"Here's your shipment!"
"THANKS DELIVERY GUY DO YOU WANT TO BUY THEM ALL BACK? YOU CAN TRADE IN YOUR OLD DS FOR TWO DOLLARS IN-STORE CREDIT"

I wonder if they've fooled anybody by claiming the Brain Training demo is only given away with pre-orders like they did with the Metroid Hunters demo. But so far it looks like Myer ($188) and Toy's R Us ($190 with a free $20 off next purchase voucher thing) are the places to go if any Auzziezzz are planning on getting one this week.

Elixir May 30, 2006 04:24 AM

$269 NZD here.

It's not that it isn't worth it, it just isn't worth the price. Original DS units are $190-220 each here, so essentially you're paying approx. $70 more for a little upgrade.

I don't get people. It's a new version. Do you sell and buy a new tv just because Panasonic bring out a larger one? That's like coming out with the PSOne over the original PS1, and everyone going "OH MY GOD, IT'S SMALLER, LOOK AT IT, I MUST HAVE ONE" yet it does the exact same thing.

I look foward to non-clicky buttons though. Fuck that shit is annoying.

BurningRanger May 30, 2006 05:42 AM

If the TV had a screen that was orders of magnitudes better, yes people would buy it.

The PSOne did much more than just be a smaller Playstation. For example, you could attach a battery and screen to it for a road trip.

The DS Lite is also more than just a size improvement.

Forsakenzoul May 30, 2006 11:16 AM

Sorry to interrupt but i thought you guys would want to know that

The DS Lite is in Stores already!!!! here is a pic to prove it ^^

http://www.netherrealms.com/Stuff/dslite.jpg

The pic was taken a few mins ago by a friend of mine on his cellphone and he sent it to me :D Oh yeah its at Walmart

Soldier May 30, 2006 04:18 PM

Elaborate please. Stores in NA are carrying it now?

I went to my Gamestop today to reserve it, but the minimum reserve is $25, and I was $5 short. I'll have to stop by there again tommorow.

On the plus side, they confirmed that they'll be receiving shipments Sunday, June 11th.

Uh, my point was they both do the same thing.

It's not like you're going to die of cancer if you don't buy the newer version.

Forsety May 30, 2006 08:56 PM

Not like you will if you do, either. Besides that, since you can adjust the backlighting in the DS lite you can get more out of your battery for when you have to go extended amounts of time without a chance to recharge it. It won't usually matter but the DS drains pretty fast from a few games. Castlevania DS for one only lasted about 2:30~3 hours on my DS. I can get almost 5 if I adjust the backlighting on the DS lite.

chaofan May 31, 2006 01:49 AM

Improved battery life? DS Lite GET!!!

In other news... Over here in Melbourne Australia, Nintendo is providing messages to people walking around in Melbourne Central, while letting them play Brain Training on DS Lites!!! It was great to see people other than gamers sitting down and having a shot at it.

Oh and the messagers were alright looking too ^_^.

DOUBLE POST: Oh yeh, today I walked into EB and asked if the DS Lite had come in.

"Yes, but we're gonna sell them tomorrow."
"Oh cool, can I test out that DS Lite your carrying?"
"Where? What do you mean?"
"... Er... the DS Lite you got right there..."
"No that's the DS."
"Um... yeh. That's the DS Lite."
"NO! That's the DS."
"Um... it's white. The DS Lite."
"Oh really? I thought they were black."
"Check your boxes."
"Meh whatever. Here (hands over DS Lite)."

I swear I could write a whole thread about the encounters I've had with EB. Do they hire bums off the street or something?
