Yeah, great atmosphere, ever been there?

YO PITTSBURGH MIKE HERE Nov 30, 2007 07:47 PM

I've never been to the East, actually.

That tower it the Messeturm from Frankfurt, Germany. One of the best European skylines.

I'll get something up to guess soon.

YO PITTSBURGH MIKE HERE Nov 30, 2007 10:22 PM

Sure is. Although you already know that.

Dullenplain Nov 30, 2007 11:42 PM

Alright, here we go:

Oriental Bay, New Zealand?

The fountain looks familiar.

Lord Styphon Dec 1, 2007 09:18 AM

This particular fountain is in Geneva, Switzerland.

GIS reveals that Oriental Bay looks eerily like Geneva, too.

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Dec 1, 2007 09:50 AM

Shit, I got here too late. I'd have actually recognized this one, as I've been to Geneva.

A shame this picture wasn't taken from the opposite direction. It could've had a glorious view of the Matterhorn in the background. Though, I suppose that would've been a dead giveaway that it's Switzerland.

Lord Styphon Dec 1, 2007 10:02 AM

If it's any consolation, you can take my place in putting up the next city.

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Dec 1, 2007 11:25 AM

Will do.

There is a landmark clue in this photograph, if you look patiently.

Smelnick Dec 7, 2007 01:38 AM

I can't for the life of me figure this one out. I've narrowed it down to southern spainish, or francish. Or somewhere in italy. That little region. I could be close, or I could be far off. It seems spanishy italian building wise. But there was some french towns that I looked at the seemed similiar to that. I'm gonna throw down a guess of Nice, France.. I just spent an hour and a half pouring over google maps, and google images looking for shore towns. =D

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Dec 7, 2007 11:10 AM

No, Nice is incorrect. I've actually been to Nice, though, and it's a very beautiful city. Of all the places in France that I could revisit, Nice is foremost on the list.

Since this is taking a while for people to get, I'll confirm that this city is not set along the Mediterranean Ocean.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Dec 7, 2007 11:13 AM

Havana then? If it's not Mediterranean it's got to be in South America and there seems to be a marina of some kind in the foreground and the coastline is kinda the right shape.

Also, the Mediterranean is a sea, not an ocean =P

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Dec 7, 2007 05:41 PM

Havana is moving in the proper direction, but the city you seek is not in Cuba.

And yeah, I know it's a sea. But it's colloquially known as "Ocean", despite the misnomer.

knkwzrd Dec 7, 2007 06:07 PM

The picture reminds me a lot of the kind of construction on the Azores, but I don't think there is a city that big on them. =\

And you talk about Americans being oblivious to the rest of the world.

I'll guess Sao Paulo, because it seems vaguely Brazilian. This is a tough one, though.

Anybody notice the statue in the photo? Looks pretty big too. Or is that just my eyes and the jpg doin' a dance?

nabhan Dec 8, 2007 11:02 PM

Random instinct tells me that the picture is of Salvador, Brazil. However, I don't think my instinct is right in this situation ;_;

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Dec 9, 2007 01:27 AM

The mystery city is not located anywhere in Brazil. People are homing in on the global area, though.

pyrrhus Dec 9, 2007 05:15 AM

Is it Santiago, Chile?

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Dec 9, 2007 01:34 PM

Sorry, it's not Santiago. To my knowledge, Santiago isn't as tropical as the city in the picture.

The mystery city is north of Santiago. It's also a fairly popular vacation spot, if that helps.

Dopefish Dec 9, 2007 02:43 PM

Then I'll bite and say Lima, Peru. Perhaps the landmark in question is Machu Picchu (tucked in the haze on the horizon).

(Probably not, looking at a map of where Lima is in relation to the mountain.)

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Dec 9, 2007 11:52 PM

Nope, it's not Lima either.

Look further north.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Dec 11, 2007 06:39 AM

Panama then? Again, the bay looks about the right shape.

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Dec 11, 2007 06:53 PM

No, it's not Panama, or Panama City, though you're starting to get very close.
