We need some Little Nemo the Dream Master on the VC.

I also wonder how likely it would be to get some Ducktales or Chip and Dales Rescue Rangers...those games were pretty much awesome. But I doubt that Disney is all up for the whole licensing deal, they're too stingy.

The Plane Is A Tiger Jun 6, 2007 12:22 AM

Dammit Guru, for those precious few seconds between seeing that picture and reading your post I thought Little Nemo had been announced. I'd buy that one the very second it went up in the Wii Shop Channel.

Infernal Monkey Jun 7, 2007 07:49 AM

olol. Apparently Australia and New Zealand FINALLY get access to TurboGrafx-16 games on the VC, starting July. I imagine they'll release one TG-16 game every two weeks, taking three billion years to catch up.

What? Disney's out to sell their stuff any way they can! The problem either lies with licensing the game for multiple countries, laziness on Capcom's part, or they aren't high on Capcom's priority list (can you say Mega Man?)

The Plane Is A Tiger Jun 7, 2007 12:31 PM

Why would the Mega Man games be high on Capcom's priority list for the VC? It's still not very difficult to find the Anniversary Collection and get all eight games for $30 or less, as opposed to the $38 MM 1-7 would cost on VC with 8 still being left off since it was on PSX.

shadowlink56 Jun 7, 2007 01:13 PM

Maybe because they bought the Gamecube version and the control scheme sucked. Also, it's a popular franchise and they might like to make more money off of the classics if people don't know about anniversary. Also, they're a business.

Anyway:
* Front Line (Famicom, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points)
* Adventures of Lolo (Famicom, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
* Golden Axe II (Mega Drive, 1-2 players, 600 Wii Points)
* The Kung Fu (PC Engine, 1 player, 600 Wii Points)

i recommend Lolo. Good times. The japanese version was SO much different. It had saves instead of passwords.

Guru Jun 7, 2007 01:13 PM

Sorry. I think that Ducktales and Rescue Rangers are both superior games to Mega Man.

I realize the existance of the Anniversary Collection isn't going to stop Capcom from releasing them on the VC, but it certainly doesn't make them a very high priority. Now if we could get the GameBoy Mega Man games then that would be great (at least for MMV).

That, sir, is blasphemy. Darkwing Duck was close, but even it could not surpass the Mega Man games.

RacinReaver Jun 7, 2007 01:36 PM

I never liked the play control on the Megaman games, though I remember losing many afternoons to Rescue Rangers (<3 Gadget Hackwrench).

You hate Megaman? That's grounds for banning.

RacinReaver Jun 7, 2007 03:41 PM

I enjoyed Megaman Legends as well as the second, and wanted to play the one with Tronn in it, but I could never find it in stores for pretty cheap (since I imagine it wasn't as good as the Legends ones).

You're just digging the hole deeper. Let me guess, the Megaman X series has only gotten better over time?

SuperSonic Jun 7, 2007 06:35 PM

The hell was wrong with the Legends series? It was very enjoyable, although I didn't enjoy the second one as much...one reason being Megaman sounded like Sailor Jupiter in the 2nd one. Either way, it was interesting to see Megaman in 3D like that. Sure, you didn't have the usual choose your level and face Fire Man, Bubble Man, Spark Man, or Skull Man, but it was still a pretty good series. They left you hanging a bit at the end though, so I would've enjoyed a third installment.

Guru Jun 7, 2007 06:41 PM

Well, see... the Mega Man games were generally a little too challenging for me back in the day when I was like, 7 or 8 years old. So I didn't really ever get into them. And by the time my gaming skills were at a level that I really could handle a game like Mega Man, I really wasn't interested in the genre all that much. I liked platformers like Super Mario World, but I never really got into the intense action platformers like Mega Man and Contra.

Rescue Rangers and Ducktales were platformer games that were more my speed when they were new, and I remember having lots of fun playing through them. They weren't necessarily easy (I don't think I actually ever beat Ducktales), but I didn't get frustrated while playing them like I did with many of the Mega Man games (man, fuck those bosses jumping on my head no matter where I stand, for real).

Why would I play games from a series I don't like?

The control scheme DIDN'T suck. You just had to get a little used to it, but it was a million times more responsive than the PS2 version.

Hotobu Jun 7, 2007 11:01 PM

Just because it was better than the PS2 version doesn't make it good. The reversal of the jump and shoot buttons is blasphemy to anyone who's kept up with that series and games of its type since the '80s, and either control pad blows for quick-twitch gaming.

wvlfpvp Jun 8, 2007 10:29 PM

Just like it was a blasphemy for them to reverse the jump and shoot buttons for Metroid Prime?

SuperSonic Jun 11, 2007 11:07 AM

This week on Virtual Console US (6/11):

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Genesis)!!
Golden Axe II (Genesis)
Lode Runner (NES)

Well, I already own it on Genesis and Cube, but once more isn't gonna hurt! :D Finally, a good game.

nuttyturnip Jun 11, 2007 11:24 AM

Oh boy, two Genesis games that have been released on virtually every console before now. Makes me want to mail my wallet to Nintendo RIGHT NOW.

Lukage Jun 11, 2007 01:08 PM

See, these reasons are why Reggie isn't allowed to roam freely into the public or into game shops. He'll be shot dead despite his inhuman power.

We need at least 5 a week.

EDIT: The system's lifespan won't even let it incorporate near 1,000 games in the VC at this rate.

Well, that pretty much solidifies my argument about Mega Man earlier!

I LOVED the gameplay of Rescue Rangers 1, I just always wanted more. It was like a better SMB2 in some aspects.
Also, I can't imagine how many hours and hours I spent trying to get every last gem in Ducktales to get that high score and what-not. It was one of my first games. I remember my parents being mad because they dropped $50 on a game I beat the first day I had it. Maybe I felt obligated to play the hell out of it? Disney games just aren't what they used to be . . . because now they're made by Disney!
I still think, overall, Mega Man was a better series because it appealed to more gamers, was just kiddy enough but just tough enough for the target audience, and had great action/puzzle/shooter action.
However, I do think I speak for all of us when I say that Mega Man should NOT be compared to Contra.

speculative Jun 11, 2007 09:11 PM

Even though it's been part of other compilation packages, Sonic 2 is still a solid VC release. Of course, there were better candidates for a more immediate release perhaps.

Sword Familiar Jun 15, 2007 04:24 PM

Everyone waiting for better releases, like Chrono Trigger for the SNES, might as well just go buy the game instead. Some games just aren't gonna pop up on VC. Ever.

One thing that many just fail to understand is that Nintendo doesn't have the right to publish all third party games. Just because they appeared on a N-console it doesn't mean that they are able to sell them on VC. They need special permission for that.

I think most of you know that already, but I get the impression that not everyone seems to realize it.

nuttyturnip Jun 15, 2007 08:31 PM

Has anyone else had problems with glitches in Actraiser? I completed the first town (Fillmore), but it's got all sorts of graphical glitches now. There's a road not connecting to anything running through a forest, and several black squares where I assume the road to Bloodpool should be. Also, if I try to direct them to build anymore, the angel flies all the way to the right edge of the map, and I have to reset the game.

I can still play the other towns, and collect tribute in Fillmore, I just can't expand it anymore. Is this going to hold me back any, or should I start over?
