breaking my silence for an important message (maybe)
Some folks might know of my life as a pirate... and my support of ThePirateBay.org and the Piratpartiet...
Well, it seems that the US now has their own version of the Pirate Party... a political party that wants to try to reform copyright and patent laws. For more read below...

Quote:
The Pirate Party of the United States is this country's version of the Piratpartiet, a Swedish political party that wants to "fundamentally reform copyright law, get rid of the patent system, and ensure that citizens' rights to privacy are respected." As a fraternal party, the PPUS shares similar goals while working within the political context of U.S. to achieve them.

For far too long, Big Media copyright cartels like the Motion Picture Association of America and the Recording Industry Association of America have held back technological progress and individual freedom. They have done so through cutthroat litigation against ordinary Americans, interfering with peer-to-peer networks by flooding them with bogus files, and corrupting the political system with unscrupulous lobbying and political donations.

Similarly, the pharmaceutical firms of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America have, through the power of their medicine patents, denied lifesaving medical treatment to the world's poorest people suffering on a horrific scale just to raise their profit margins. Doctors and scientists are beholden to Big Pharma's grant money, extorted through patents, to devote research efforts on what makes the most money, not always on what saves the most lives or reduces suffering. The New England Journal of Medicine can no longer find unbiased reviewers of medical studies because of Big Pharma's long patent-granted reach.

Preceding and following the 9/11 attacks, the U.S. government has had a longstanding antipathy towards protecting the privacy of ordinary Americans when it conflicts with their interests in state control. The NSA's phone-tapping, the FBI's Carnivore email spying program, and Congress's two so-called "PATRIOT Acts" are symptoms of a rampant disregard in law enforcement and the legislative branch for the private lives of U.S. citizens.

No matter what excuses or rationalizations Big Businesses and Big Government offer, it all comes down to cold, hard corporate greed and state control at the expense of your freedom and well-being. Most Americans have wished that one of the major parties would have the courage to stand up to these undemocratic conglomerates and policies and win back control of the cultural, scientific, and personal spheres for artists, critics, scientists, patients, and citizens from all walks of life. Both the Republicans and Democrats have instead, as a whole, enthusiastically rolled over for Big Media's and Big Pharma's campaign dollars.

While fine groups like the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the Free Software Foundation, Creative Commons, and Doctors Without Borders have been fighting these battles for a long time with us, no political party in United States has made the reform of intellectual property and privacy laws their top priority.

Until now.
If you are tired of getting taken to the cleaners everytime you visit Tower Records... or your local DVD store... or when you fill a prescription... think about it. Are you sick of this crap? Isn't it time for some sort of reform? Tell others about the Pirate Party... and stay tuned for more info upcoming... and bookmark this site: http://pirate-party.us/

and now I return back to my rather odd disappearance from GFF and life in general...

So I am trying to figure out something...

Fourth of July weekend... traditionally is it also the weekend of the AnimeExpo here in Anaheim, CA. In the past I/we have attended as members of the press. This year if I/we were to attend it would be as regular guests. No biggie there...
Issue is that
a) Milady would only be able to attend two out of the four days unless she came by in the evening
b) I have to work on that Monday... fuckin' employer. I swear I picked the wrong fuckin' company to work for... the perks are not worth all this bullshit...

But why would I want to attend anyway? Anything exciting happening there? You mean aside from possibly getting to see the AMV's... and Masquerade? Well got a couple of folks that might be in town...
Piro from MegaTokyo has stated that he might be in the area for a book signing and would possibly attend AX... there has been talk of a GFF SoCal meet during AX... and I am assuming that InsertCliche (friend of mine) might be in the area for AX in some sort of art contest too...
Plus who would not want to take as many photos of the good, the bad, and the downright ugly cosplay? One of the hottest weekends of the year and the whitest of the white kids come out in the sun to cosplay... *deep inhale*... Ahhh... I love the smell of bad cosplay in the morning...

crash and burning...
No... not CacheCrash.... sheesh... >_<

I'm talking about the new Pixar movie Cars and the fact that I ended up turning a nice shade of red over the weekend... okay, I turned this color yesterday. But enough... let's talk shop shall we?

Pixar's new movie Cars is released to the general public on Friday, 9 June. Milady and I had the opportunity to see it this past Saturday (3 June for those keeping score at home). Theater was pretty full... and I am pretty damn sure it was a sneak preview on a few different screens at the cineplex since there were plenty of people with "advance screening" tickets in hand at our location. Okay... the stage is now set... move is supposed to start at 10am. Close... but no cigar... no biggie though... I'm playing the New Super Mario Brothers for the DS and I haven't gotten to the save point yet...
SAVED!!!! Woohoo!!! Shut down and wait...

Light dim... and we are inundated with more fuckin' "adverts" for whoever did the sound... the digital projector... et cetera. Show me the fuckin' previews and then let's get on with it already!!!
Trailer #1 - Meet the Robinson's... has been on my HSX list for a while and it seems to be sucking more and more every day that I continue to keep this stock. Maybe once trailers are out there it will pick up some interest. It does look like a somewhat cute film. Scratch that... just peeked and it's surprisingly up... O_o

Trailer #2 - Ratatouille - Pixar's next film... and it looks cute and funny. Rat in Paris... doesn't eat junk... but has a more refined taste since Paris is known for their exquisite food... ^_^

I think that was all of the trailers... I thought there might have been one from Dreamworks but I can't recall the name of it if there was one... >_<

and then to the typical Pixar animated short... One Man Band
All I have to say... hilarious!!!! Definitely worth the the price of admission for this one... ^_^

and now for the movie... ^_^
For those who are wanting to know who the entire cast is now... look it up because I swear you will not want to be looking at the list of voices during the credits. The credits are hilarious and worth sticking around for.
Cars was a well done movie though it was quite apparent about halfway through that the kids in the theater were growing restless... hell, I was growing restless too. In the beginning you had fast paced action and then it slowed down and then the ending was again fast paced. It's not as though I was bored... it was just that the middle of the movie seemed to drag out for too long probably due to the slower pace of the movie.
That being said though... there are things that you should keep an eye out for. I can't remember where it was withing the movie, but for those who remember Birds on a Wire... there is a VERY brief cameo of them sitting on a wire and if you blink you will have missed them.

So that being said... would I pay out my $9 to see this movie in the theater? Probably... but I'd try to see it at a time when the audience is over 50% kids who are noisy and crap like that.
Word to the parents: if your kid(s) cannot sit still and remain quiet in a movie theater for about two hours... then wait for it to come out on DVD later this year. Please? Seriously... I have nothing against kids... but I have something against kids and their parents that don't seem to care about the other people around them.
And word to other movie goers: when the end credits are rolling and you decide that you are going to leave during them... when you stand up immediately move to the aisle. Do not stand there looking like a dick when there are people behind you trying to watch the bloody credits. You're body is not part of the film so I don't want to have to look at it when I'm staring at the screen.

So finally credits ended... and we were off... off to find something for lunch. PF Chang's was the place to go it seemed. Milady had never eaten there before so off we went. It has been a while since I ate there... wasn't used to being served family style. I was used to ordering my entree and not having to share it. Then again, I don't recall the last time I nearly burned out my entire digestive tract while chowing down on tofu and chicken bathed in some sort of Szchuan sauce. Sure as hell don't recall being flamed out by Szchuan before but there is a first time for everything it seems.
Then it was time to walk around the Irvine Spectrum for a bit before we needed to head out to make sure Milady got to work on time for her four-hour shift of overtime.

Sunday rolled around... and I was up rather early for it being a Sunday... 6:30am... damn my body. Days I want to sleep in and I can't... days I can't sleep in and I have a rough time crawling out of bed.
So anyway... had stuff to do... had to go to Staples to pick up a box for packing some stuff into for the "GFF Magical Box Swap"... a box of items sent to random member who signed up for the event. All I have to say is that the recipient of my box will have a lot of swag that I've picked up from E3 over the years... okay, not so much swag as most of the swag managed to disappear over the past couple of years. But some from this year... and some from 2004 (did not attend in 2005). Contemplated tossing in the Coca-Cola can from Japan that was promoting Lineage II, but didn't want to risk it exploding and ruining everything else. And that box is going out this afternoon after I get home from work... Milady said she was going to toss some stuff in there that I could filter through if I wanted to.
But the part of this story was that who out there knew that Staples opened at 10am on Sundays? I sure as hell didn't... I thought they opened early in the morning just like every other morning of the week. Nope... so we got there a wee bit early... and it was already blazing hot out... even standing in the shade it was hot. Not my idea of a fun start to the day. Staples opens... I get my box... Milady picks up a couple boxes of pens and then we head out to the car which is now hotter then hell when we get in. *sigh* Then across the street we go to Albertson's for food and beverage. Over an hour later... and $130 later we make our way back outside to the car which has progressively gotten hotter from the continued baking in the hot sun. Thank goodness it's a short trip home...

got home... unloaded groceries... and prepared our lunch. Various cheeses, meats, and a loaf of sourdough bread. Simple... cool... and easily taken outside for us to get out of the hot apartment. A few hours later we were back in the apartment as our playtime in the pool had come to an end. A nice cool breeze was blowing from the west which made me happy... and that pretty much ended my weekend.

all references to Milady... that would be my wife...

Welcome to Million Dollar Alley...
*sigh*
So last week one of the local news stations did a special report on "Miilion Dollar Alley" about the resurgance of prostitutes along some unspecified street... but the teaser showed this prostitute being interviewed with a rather familiar neon sign in the background... and it dawned on me, oh shit... they are talking about the area I live. In fact that interview took place in the parking lot of Carl's Jr.... just around the corner from me.

But we've (those within my complex) been noticing this resurgance for the past few months now. I had mad mention of it in early Febraury in one of my journals somewhere... not sure if I ever had mentioned it in my journal here prior to the crash.
This is from that entry on 4 February:
Quote:
Around 6:30 this morning I am awoken by a female talking rather loudly outside our bedroom window. This goes on for a few minutes before I end up becoming very frustrated and bounced out of bed to see who the fuck is making all this noise so fucking early in the morning... so poking my head through the drapes and what do I see? None other than the following:
black female... around 5'6" I'd say wearing knee-high white boots with a 3" heel on them or there abouts... jean shorts so short that they might as well have been a demin belt... and a white winter jacket with a faux fur collar.

Now what type of person is wearing something like this at 6:30 in the morning? Hmmm... need to think hard... harder... harder... yes, that's hard enough. $150 now please.

Yes... we got a hooker who was getting off of work for the night!!! She ended up disappearing up the alleyway between our complex and the one next to it... and all was quiet. No clue where she was or what she was doing.

So back to my computer stuff since I was now awake... and about five or ten minutes later I hear a vehicle pulling slowly along the front of the complex. I peek out the curtains again... and what do I see? A baby blue, 4-door coupe with multi-spoke rims... male driver with a couple of females already in the vehicle. They end up backing into the alley far enough back to not be seen from the street if you were driving down the street... and loud female who awoke me with her yammerings is now hopping into the backseat of this car.
All was quiet on the homefront for a while... and then we started noticing about a month or so ago that there were beginning to be random presents being left in our carport... typically where one of the vehicles that is supposed to be there was away overnight or for the weekend. No idea if these were protein filled presents... nor did I want to find out. It's enough to say that I'm not overly thrilled with the fact that these pig fuckers are dumping their used condoms a few feet from my car...

And then a couple of weeks ago... we get some random car pulling into one of the carports. It's around 8pm or so... the person whom that carport belonged to? Out picking up dinner with his boyfriend. They come home to find someone in their spot... so what does the neightbor do? Go up to the car to find out what in the hell is going on... and he does find out... the driver is getting his chrome polished. And apparently the rapping on the vehicle window was enough to startle the guy to end up almost backing OVER one of the neighbors. *sigh*

And then we had this past weekend. My sweet and somewhat innocent cousins (techinically my wife's cousins... and my cousin-in-laws) were down from the Bay Area for the weekend and staying with us. One is rather naive... the other not so naive.
So Friday night/Saturday morning one of the neighbors comes home from where ever he was at (my assumption is clubbing) to find a strange vehicle in another neighbors spot... and without hesitation he notifies the Anaheim PD. They ask him how he knows it doesn't belong there and his answer? Because he lives there and knows all the vehicles that should be there... especially since the one neighbor is at work at the moment at the Orange County Jail in Santa Ana. Yeah... that seemed to have gotten a fire lit...
Within a few minutes the alley is now swarming with police vehicles... and who is in the car? The pimp... his hoe(sp?) is off servicing someone next door apparently. So the police arrest the pimp... and wait for the hooker to come out and promptly arrest her.
I do love a happy ending...

Since then, there have been increased patrols along our street both day and night... in fact on Satruday afternoon I saw something that I didn't even know existed... Anaheim PD on bicycles. And they would loop around every couple of hours until it became dark out.

And that is my story for now... it seems to have become a bit more quiet since Saturday morning... even the neighborhood seems to be a wee bit quieter than usual... O_o

And now for a random quote from one of my LJ entries in February during one of the many GFF crashes:
Quote:
what in the sam hell is bobo doing that causes the site to go down more often than Chasey Lain at a cock-fest?
Ahhh... I do love my rather ineloquent approach to things just a few months ago. Oh wait, I'm still rather ineloquent...

And before I forget since this won't be a surprise anymore... but my wife and I were actually going to try to fly out to Boston this weekend to make a rather unexpected appearance for the East Coast meet, but sadly some stuff came up financially that made us not able to attend. Oh well... maybe another time. Would have been nice to meet some of you since the SoCal meets consist of meeting at someone's house and playing videogames. Not that I don't mind playing videogames, but it seems to be the case for every meet that I've seen over the past year or two...

10 things you did not know about Niekon (nor did you care to know)
like anyone really gives a damn about a nobody like me... the silent person who sits in the background just observing... so this entry will fall on blind eyes...

1) I was convicted in the state of California for 2 counts of assisted suicide. I plead to the charges for a much lesser sentence of 1 year (time served + 2 more months in county lock-up) and 2 years of probation... otherwise it would have been dragged out for many more years.

2) I was in the US Army... as surprising as that might sound based upon my lack of conventionality. And I received an honorable discharge and medical retirement three years into my term... along with a nice check for about $150,000.

3) Upon receipt of aforementioned check, I used that money to purchase the comic book store in which I was currently employed part-time. So here I was... almost 21 years old... owning a comic book shop, had already been retired from the military, and owning my own condo.

4) I used to be known within the Disney community as the Toonfinder. If there was a Disney meet-n-greet character to be found, I was most likely the person who knew where that character could be found in all four resorts. I also ran that site which went through several incarnations over a period of 5+ years before I gave it up and passed it along to a cast member to run.

5) While being a Southern California resident puts me close to Mexico, I have yet to ever "head south of the border". Nor have I ever been "north of the border" either. My international travels have put me in Germany, various countries within the former Eastern Block, and Thailand when I was just an infant.

6) I am one of the pickiest eaters you will ever find. I do not eat anything with tomatoes... no ketchup, no spaghetti, no pizza, nothing...
I have similar aversions for most squash and other vegetables, but I will eat broccoli and cauliflower. And as odd as it might sound, certain fruits are on my "do not serve me" list. Love grapes... hate raisins.
Though while I hate to eat such foods, I do not have an issue preparing them for others...

7) I do not eat sweets... and if I do it is on a very rare occasion because I am tasting something that someone has prepared special.

8) I have a daughter who is nearly nine years old if I recall correctly. My girlfriend at the time left me a few months into the pregnancy and at the time I knew I was financially and emotionally unable to raise a child on my own should she decide to give up the child. So I gave up my parental rights within the terms of the adoption, but did leave the option available for her to search me out if she chose to do so when she was old enough.

9) I have had four majors in college, none of which were ever completed. My last major, English with an emphasis on Creative Writing had me one semester away from graduating with a Bachelors... and I freaked out and dropped out. I have yet to go back...

10) my wife and I met via an IRC channel back in 1999. The IRC channel was based off of the Usenet group Alt.Disney.Disneyland (ADD for short). We ended up actually meeting up at Disneyland a couple of months later... and the following week I drove up to San Francisco to visit her.
She moved down to my place in December of that year. And in July of 2001 we were married. 2 years and 3 days from the day that we initially began "dating".
And our wedding date is 13 July 2001. For those going back in time, we were married on Friday the 13th and this was done on purpose for two reasons: 1) I'm the morbid type who found it humourous, 2) 13 July is also the wedding date for Walt & Lillian Disney. 13 July had always been the planned wedding date... just what year we were unsure of until we were looking closer at the calendar for 2001 and 2002.
Another tidbit was that we were actually married on Disney property without Disney's consent. The ceremony was on the balcony of out hotel suite on the concierge floor overlooking Paradise Pier at Disney's California Adventure.

The hockey gods hate me...
They have to... or else I would not have been told twice in the past 24 hours that there was a good possiblility that I could have gone to one of the Western Conference Finals games only to find out a bit later that , sorry, but we've decided to give them to someone else who doesn't even give a damn... >_<

Yesterday: 2 pairs of tickets for both Game 1 & Game 2 which belong to my boss who is a season ticket holder. But funny... he can't go because he has premium seats for the Angels vs. Dodgers game this evening and that game is up in LA. First and foremost, he's an Angels fan... hockey is just something extra for him to watch I guess...
Anyway, there are only two folks here that follow hockey very closely... me who follows all the games and the warehouse manager who just follows the Ducks. We were ready... Boss would give him a call and pass along the tickets to him and we'd both go. Hell, we'd be leaving from work in plenty of time to get there for the warm-ups and crap like that...
So we find out near the end of the day... Boss ended up giving the tickets to one of our vendors. WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!? A vendor? Come on... they are only going because most of the other SoCal teams are shitty right now... except for apparently the Clippers who will lose on Monday anyway leaving Anaheim as the only team doing anything good right now in the area... and the local bandwagon will roll into town and make it even more difficult for me to get to these games... >_<
And I'm sure as hell not paying out the $60+ service charges for nosebleed seats. Have an anniversary coming up... and the wife, while supportive of my love for hockey and enjoys watching the games too, will not be so forgiving if I cannot afford something for our five-year anniversary. "Here honey, I got us tickets for the Stanley Cup Finals... happy anniversary!!!" *sleeping in the carport for the next month*

This morning: swing by the local Circle K to get my 2 one liter bottles of Mtn Dew... gotta do the Dew while at work. So I have my Mighty Ducks jersey on... it's game day... it's expected. Wear the appropriate jersey for when they are home or on the road. So today it's the dark alternate jersey...
The clerk starts talking to me about the upcoming series... which I let him know starts tonight. He's more of a basketball fan... and knows very little about hockey. Anyway... he informs me that one of the guys with the OC Register (local newspaper) had given him two tickets to one of the games for this series... and he had given them to some other customer... and only afterwards did he remember how much of a hockey fan I am. Not sure how many other customers of his match their wardrobe around specific team jerseys ^_~

So this is how I will be watching the series...
OLN on the television... surround sound turned on... volume maxed... pint glass next to me with the keg of Guinness on tap about six feet away from where I am sitting... my hockeystick from when I played in my hands...

Game 1: today at 6pm PT... all phones will be in "silent" mode or else the owner will be kicked out of the room. The Guinness will flow freely... and we still need to figure out what in the hell we're doing for food... O_o

BVG kicks G4 out of their booth...
Oh the sweet victory... the smell of a wannabe gaming network getting the boot from a booth... I do love it...

So this is the story as it went down yesterday.

G4 came to BVG's booth to tape some stuff for thier upcoming games... Pirates of the Carribean... Spectrobes... Desperate Housewives... et cetera. Well, it seems that G4 got a wee bit out of control when it came to the Desperate Housewives game and the "reporter" was demanding that the BVG rep make one of the characters "bitchslap" another character. The rep refused and told the person to watch his language or the demo was over. He continued with the "bitchslap" and said something else... and that was the end of the line. The BVG rep said goodbye as the G4 reporter yelled to her that they were "going to have to review the game eventually" in a manner that seemed to be saying that X-Play would give it a bad review based on whatever this asshole said.
BVG rep continue on her way back the the PR desk... and allegedly had G4 removed from the rest of the appointment schedule.

Ahhh... I do love some good drama. Hearing that one last night from my wife made me all warm and squishy inside... because you know that G4 thinks they are all that and a bag of Baked Nacho Doritos... and the reality is that they aren't shit...

E3 2006... and all the crap that goes with it...
So I spent part of last night and this morning downloading the hi-res videos from IGN and have been slowly watching some of them while sitting here at work...
Initial impressions... FFXIII looks nice, but not much to really see that made me scream "gimme".
MGS4... never was into the series, but the cinematics are nice. And this one definitely left me with that whole "WTF?!?!?!?" feeling...
SE press conference... a lot of stuff coming out there it seems. Just hope they aren't overdoing it and are going to end up delaying stuff for one reason or another. But a lot of it was the same ol' rhetoric. Still working on watching the video though... so maybe my thoughts on this will change for the better

And as videos become available, I'll be downloading them and offering them up on my FTP server. So far there isn't much up there... just some of the basic shit that was put out yesterday. Waiting for the Sony press conference to be made available for download...

And the wife is heading down to E3 in a bit so that she can do her walkthrough of the area... must be nice to be actually working a booth, though she won't be able to get out on the floor much.
If you are going... stop by the BVG booth and say hi to Jen and tell her Niekon sent you ^_~

Other news... rather boring crap...
The complex I live in is like the gay version of Melrose Place... though it seems that the gay/hetero ratios have evened out in recent years. Anyway...
So there is a guy who lives downstairs with some gal who he used to be dating. But that relationship went south a while ago... but they still lived together. Now this guy is going back to his ex-wife of a couple of marriages ago... and had sent the live-in annoyance off somewhere last week while the ex was in town visiting. I think they both know about each other... not that it matters to me...
So anyway, the live-in annoyance is the reason why I hate drama. This bitch (and this is even to nice a name for her) has managed to create such a riff between herself and the rest of the other 15 units. No one ever talks to her except the occasional "hello"... nothing of a real conversation that would give the impression we gave a damn about her.
Well we've been waiting for it... and it seems that the day has possibly come. Is the bitch finally getting what is due to her and getting kicked to the curb? Quite possibly...
And why do I think so? Well at 5:30 this morning I'm sitting at the computer going through some of the press releases that had been showing up in my inbox overnight when I'm hearing yelling... and screaming... and then nothing. A few minutes later I hear this sound that I can only describe as a dying pigeon. I stupidly open my front door to figure out what in the hell this awful noise is... and I see her sitting at one of the poolside tables crying... or doing her best imitation of crying. Probably going for the sympathy vote from Dude or anyone else in the complex who happened to be awake (which I am sure was more than just me by that point considering she was a very loud dying pigeon). Dude said fuck it... and just left. Which I find hilarious because he's never even awake when I am leaving in the morning... so here is a first. He's gone before I have even finished getting ready for work... must remember to jot that down on the calendar.

So yeah... today should be interesting when I get home when I start to hear the word of whatever transpired after I finally left at 6:15.
And all this while I'll be trying to watch my team take Game 3 in Colorado.

stress... it's a killer...
So I never got the chance to report in last night on the outcome of the appointment with the doctor and I've been busy today with work crap... so here goes...

Apparently the chest pains were brought on by a few different factors. Stress... poor diet (I eat MAYBE once a day)... lack of sleep.
Stress I can understand...
Poor diet? I've been this way since at least high school so I never knew this would be a big issue...
lack of sleep? Same amount of sleep I typically get a night... 4-5 hours.

I'm going to chalk it up to that whole bit of getting older and not being able to do what I did 10-15 years ago.
The wife is making me at least two meals a day now... she's waking up with me to make me breakfast to make sure I at least have one meal... and if I go out for lunch then that's a bonus, but she knows I rarely ever go out for lunch let alone take a lunch. And then we typically take turns figuring out something for dinner and cooking. Or if we're both feeling lazy we hit up one of the local places for food... perk to living in a tourist destination, lots of restaurants to pick from ^_^
As for the sleep... I try... but the only way I'm ever going to get a full night of sleep is to a) go on sleeping pills to knock my ass out and b) have everything I need to deal with done by 7pm. Bwahahahahaha!!!! 7pm is when my evening is just starting... so that isn't going to happen and I don't do pills.

As for the stress... that comes and goes... I am trying to schedule more massage sessions though to help with that. Mixing that with the chiroprator and I am one body in pain, yet relaxed. *sigh*

So now it's pretty much up to me... I can do something or I can continue to have issues like this arise. I'm trying to adjust my life to work within most of the guidelines dictated by the doctor. Just not overly possible for that 8 hours of sleep thing though. But I can shoot for at least an hour or two extra at night.

So that's it... I'm being boring today... oh wait, I'm always boring...
