Library Police Mobilize!
These guys must be ex-SEAL team or something. They walk around the library in formation talking into earpiece radios. The worst thing going on at 10 in the morning is someone walking around with a cup of coffee. God help us if the reference desk is compromised. Call of Duty: Book Ops II kind of shit.

What's up
There's no denying that writing in this box feels so very awkward after years, YEARS, of not being here. Hell, even reading the nonsense I wrote in this box in my last entries in 2006 feels like it never happened, it was so long ago.

I've been on a nostalgia trip lately and it has led me back here. Lately, I haven't had a lot of time to spend online, as my living arrangements don't allow for a consistent internet connection, nor does my budget. I ever go to like 4 sites anymore, and I'm finding that I miss this place enough to want to add it to the small rotation.

So, how is everyone? I've been hanging around in the shadows long enough to realize this isn't the place I left, not even close... but it seems like it's better for those that stuck around. Even in what I would think of as the heyday of the boards, think 2002ish, the community didn't seem this tightly knit. It's pretty neat to see.

Illegal Operation
Oh, imagine if my bosses were here right now, seeing me hammer away at a journal entry. I'd blame it on them, of course; seeing as how today was the slowest day of the season so far, and just about the entire department was called and told not to come in... aside from me, of course. Sticking me with all the work (and there's much more than they made it out to be when I got here) is a hassle, and a blessing. I get a bigger paycheck, but lose out on a day of rest and relaxation.

Bosses left at 2. I leave at 6. Fucking shit.

Non-comformist
I have a feeling I'm going to start a trend with this.

Unfortunately, that means I'm going to have to leave the spelling of the title incorrect. A small price to pay, I suppose.

Your internet is mine!
So, I got my computer finally. It's an office tower, that is, I call it a tower, but it's horizontal. This is what it looks like:

http://www.mysimon.com/HP_Compaq_Evo...-30425493.html

Not bad for $175, right? I also got a regular 17" CRT monitor for $25. I budgeted exactly $200 to get back online, so shit, I think I made out like a fucking bandit.

Last night I got a wireless router for our cable modem as well as a USB network adaptor. Since my roommate, who locks his door and tends to be away for days at a time, has the cable modem in his room, I thought I was shit out of luck as far as being online goes until at least the early part of next week. Never fear, though; since I'm in an apartment complex, there are multiple wireless networks being run within the 400-foot range of my USB thingamabob. I just put it in the window, and voila, free internet.

Of course, I'm stealing shitty Verizon DSL, and my speeds are terrible, so don't hope to get anything from me until my router is hooked up. At least I can get back into the fray around here on a regular basis now, though, which is nice.

P.S. The Rangers suck. Can you not take stupid penalties, please?

Let them eat cake.
The urinal cake at the library is made by a company called Emerald Island. That is definitely not a beach I'd want to sink my toes into.

Slight change of plans as far as getting online goes. I'm looking for something in the $150-$200 range just to get me online for now; putting together the mother of all systems will have to wait awhile. My target date for full restoration of forum activity is next weekend, or April 16, at the latest.

Suffice it to say that I've been in a weird space lately. Not a bad space, just weird. Hopefully that'll help bolster my entertainment quotient when I return.

Work is hectic. Finally. It's been over a year since I could say I was working six days a week, and longer still since the paycheck felt anything worth the job I was doing. It's a lot of work with numbers, which I don't mind at all. Numbers are my specialty, of course. One point of advice, though: One-digit numbers are much easier to work with than four-digit numbers. You want to keep away from the really crooked numbers, too.

I miss everyone here that I talk with regularly, and I miss doing what I can to make this a better place. Hopefully, with the weather warming up (I'm picking up a new tennis racket tomorrow in the hopes of getting back in form) I can balance a good presence here with my increasingly hectic existence on this side of the monitor and keep happy with myself.

Oh, did I mention I'm happy with myself? It's been a persistent happiness, too, one that I haven't had in many years, if ever. Shit, I should end this before I put anyone to sleep.

ttyl~

Dogmatix Man Syndrome
Where, oh where, have I gone? To work, to sleep, to the bar (to play poker, not to drink and sing like an idiot.) Not to GFF. Not often, anyway. Considering that in my current living situation computer usage is determined by another member of the household, and considering that he is unwilling to fix his computer which has been out of service since early October, and considering that I'm sure my mother's seen enough of me at her place just to use her system, I'm considering all alternatives to accessing the boards at a more NYRSkate-like rate.

What I have on my mind is a prepaid T-Mobile Sidekick II. The data plan is $1/day for unlimited usage, and as far as I've read so far, its web browser can support sites like this one. Has anyone tried using it for browsing GFF, and if so, how was the experience?

Also, can someone tell me what's been going on lately? I feel so out of it, and anyone coming back after an extended leave of absence knows how hard it is to get back into the swing of things once they miss even a day or two.
