All my trip photos in one handy place
Hello people,

Want to see all my photos in one handy dandy website? Well look no more!

I've finished my online photo gallery of all the trips I've taken within the last several years. All together there should be around 5000 photos in total, or more. I'm sure as hell not going to count them all, but one trip alone had 2000 altogether.

BRUSSELS (last photo entry!)
Response to: MUSEUM OF COCOA AND CHOCOLATE by Freelance

So here are some more random shots of Brussels, Belgium. I don't have anymore photos so I guess this is goodbye... that is, until the next trip.

Spoiler:

Some street performers.

More Manneken Pis costumes.

Belgian waffle with crap on it.

Chocolate elephant.

One of the trains I went on. The table is foldable.

Went to a little restaurant for dinner and there was this cute doggie outside. Looks like a Great Pyrenees to me.

There was also this Great Horned Owl too. Contrary to its namesake. they are not horns or ears at all but tufts of feathers.

The restaurant.

The dish I ordered. I think it's Greek.

Spoiler:

Cute plushies.

A dish.

A bread restaurant I went twice to.

MUSEUM OF COCOA AND CHOCOLATE
Response to: GRAVENSTEEN CASTLE (look here if you like weapons and torture stuff) by Freelance

Note: This is not the same museum as the one I went to in Bruges.

Note: All the sculptures shown are chocolate.

MUSEUM OF COCOA AND CHOCOLATE

Spoiler:

Various moulds

This lady is demonstrating how to make chocolate. Here she is holding a hollowed chocolate.

Various chocolate tins from the past.

A cocoa pod.

Free samples.

Spoiler:

Before people ate chocolate people drank them instead, hence the cup displays.

Next update will also be the last. Random shots of Brussels.

GRAVENSTEEN CASTLE (look here if you like weapons and torture stuff)
Response to: SAINT BAVO CATHEDRAL by Freelance

GRAVENSTEEN

The Gravensteen is a castle in Ghent originating from the Middle Ages. The name means "castle of the count" in Dutch.

Apparently the castle was used originally as a courthouse, a prison and then a factory. Inside the castle is a museum dedicated to weapons and instruments of torture.

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

The Session room.

The wall walk was defended by 24 protruding towers with loopholes and battlements with towers. The towers could be divided in 2 levels by a horizontal wooden floor.

The Sugar Drawer was originally meant to be a chapel for the count.

WEAPONS AND ARMOUR

Those crossbows are huge.

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

TORTURE DEVICES

Spoiler:

The guillotine. Ironically it was named after doctor Joseph-Ignace Guillotin, a man who opposed capital punishment.

This doohickey was wrapped around the neck of the victim. The collar was fastened diagonally to the walls so when the victim moved even the slightest, the pin will pierce the flesh.

Thumbscrews.

A straitjacket.

Before the 18th century, people were not condemned to months or years of imprisonment. Pending the decision of the judge, suspects were held in custody with a chain round their neck, hands and/or feet, sometimes wearing a pressure belt.

Spoiler:

By means of a red hot key, later a red searing iron an indelible sign was branded on the criminal's shoulder, back or cheek. This branding procedure was carried out in public.

The Rasphuis, or Central Prison could house 1500 convicts.

Tomorrow it's back to Brussels for the last leg of the trip.

SAINT BAVO CATHEDRAL
Response to: GHENT, BELGIUM by Freelance

SAINT BAVO CATHEDRAL

The Saint Bavo Cathedral (also known as Sint-Baafs Cathedral, or the Dutch Sint Baafskathedraal) is the seat of the diocese of Ghent. It is named for Saint Bavo of Ghent.

The cathedral is noted for the Ghent Altarpiece, originally in its Joost Vijd chapel. It is formally known as: The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb by Hubert and Jan van Eyck. This work is considered Van Eyck's masterpiece and one of the most important works of the early Northern Renaissance, as well as one of the greatest artistic masterpieces of Belgium. *

*Taken from Wiki

They didn't allow anyone taking photos of the Ghent Altarpiece but the link provided will have an image of it. The actual painting is huge and was housed in this tiny room so it was jam-packed with people when I went in.

Please note that I have a fascination for stained glass windows hence all the photos...

Spoiler:

Next update will be of the Chocolate Museum.
