The place today and things to come
Those of us that have found themselves absent from the forums and journals lately could be forgiven for worrying on missing out. There's nothing worse that combing through buddy journals for older entries to see what's happening to people, which is probably what leads to so many "So how's everyone doing?" questions in "I'm back" entries. Thinking of this, I thought I'd step back a bit and form a handy summary index of things to come for anyone wondering or absent for a bit.

Now let's see here,

-Devo is bothered by something or someone in her school. MAN.

-Spatula is watching an anime series.

-Q bought something. Look! He bought something! Look! Here is a photo of it!

-Peeack and Ronz are posting a large animated picture to address a serious matter on the internet

-Shin went to the pub with a friend and misses his old car, actually. So how is everyone?

-VG is not here

-Spatula is watching an anime series.

-lix found something on /b/

-Spatula is watching an anime series

-Immortal took more photos of a car. Not necessarily his car, but a car nevertheless.

-lix bought something essential on ebay for $300

-Spatula is still watching that anime series.

-Oh yeah, Spatula is watching that anime series.

-Did he mention he's watching that anime series?

-Face wants to date a student of his since he doesn't see her as a student

-siân is going to see muuuuuuuuuuuuse

-blah programmed a neat feature for the forums

-Infernal is not doing so well for once No actually haha here is the large bold happy part you'll read instead.

-Meanwhile, Spatula is watching that one anime series.

-Seris is worried why CL is coughing and puking on her bed so she decided to ask her what's wrong in chocojournal

-Tails speeded on another highway while playing Ace Combat 2. AHAHAHAHA man that ice is crayze!

-Spatula is no longer watching that anime series.

-Miyomi might have written something, but you can't be sure

-Face's best friend is dating his student

-Merv "found" another funny page from a hentai manga

-rab doesn't like Sony. Like really, man. They like really suck.

-Soldier is confused

-blue is confused

-Spatula would like you to know he's watching that anime series again.

-nadi still has an adorable baby girl ;_;

-Sass ran out of cigarettes at work. MAN.

-Miyomi rapidshared some music 4 u

-lix is still convinced manga is a weeaboo word, but is fine saying he "doesn't like anime". Oh and he found something on /b/

-Grawl broke up with his girlfriend but it's ok cause here's photos of his new one

-Spatula is watching an anime series.

-Pang is vague

-Tails disapproves Pang

-Devo disapproves Pang

-Skills disapproves Pang

-Spatula is watching an anime series.

-Ronz disapproves Pang

-Lehah disapproves Pang

-Devo disapproves Lehah

-Devo is bothered by something in her school. MAN

-seanne uploaded an album 4 u

-Spatula is watching an anime series.

-Q bought something! He took photos of it!

-But Spatula is watching an anime series.

-Saka might have mentioned playing a DS game, I dunno didn't read

I might be missing the obligatory person addressing forum drama, but those are the exception these days.

hay guys~
So I'm still alive.

Been going to work and coming home and then just doing not much. Well, I did read Vol 7 of Genshiken. I haven't gotten to play FFXII for a week now
And school starts on Monday

The other day I went to buy some stuff though. Savepoint had managed to order me a copy of Psychonauts (it's seemingly just disappeared from shelves here) so I went to fetch that and found a copy of DOA Ultimate for cheap at the same time so I picked that up too. I they also gave me the Heavy Metal Collection Vol 1 they've been working on for ages and now it's finally finished ='D

It's just this CD they got together with a bunch of (small) Finnish metal bands that they are handing out to people at the store because they've started selling band items now (guitars strings, picks, etc). There had been a printing error in the first print, and now they've finally gotten the corrected booklets in and can hand them out again. It's a pretty sweet double CD. I personally don't even care that much for most of the songs, but it's just so kickass to have it <3

Oh and I won a bid for Another Code (also disappeared from stores here), and I don't even own a DS yet. I want a Lite, but I'm not about to pay €159 for it ;_;

Ashley is reaching for my camera! =o

Other than that, I've been haxxing my PSP again, it's become extremely addicting. I got rid of Devhook and installed the custom 3.03 OE-B firmware after some puzzling around and it's working wonderfully. I absolutely love it how you no longer have to boot the PSP back to 1.50 and back to 2.71 when switching from a physical UMD to a UMD image or back. Launching UMD images from the Game folder is genius.

And, naturally, I've tried my hand at more emulation. SNES emulation runs a lot smoother now, making more than a few games playable. Some of the RPGs I wanted to try still stutter and skip really annoyingly and are pretty unplayable, but eh. I can happily play Terranigma on my PSP now.

PS1 emulation on the other hand completely blew me away. Not only is it robust and completely playable, it works for every game I've tried so far, stunning work on both Sony's part for designing it, and for the folks who hacked it for our popstation/psx2psp uses :3

On one of my sticks I have

Running perfectly too. I even made the Zodiac Brave Story opening tune play when you're in the menu <3

Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre run well too, the emulated PS1 version of Ogre Battle hilariously runs smoother than the emulated SNES Ogre Battle.

Final Fantasy Origins (remade I and II), V and VI (with corresponding versions of Prelude playing in the menu~). It's a shame the PS1 version of IV looks like shit, especially emulated on PSP ._. But at least I have it if I ever feel like it (I also have European Anthology bought and the SNES version emulated so plenty to choose from).

On my second stick I have

zomg zomg zomg zomg <3

The first game I tried the emulation software on and it runs so well. I would much rather replay on a large TV with my clear file, but portable Vagrant Story is just irresistible~

omfg wtf lol

I have all three discs converted and judging by disc 1, the game runs great. Only a few graphical effects, like the blur when a battle starts, are absent, but otherwise the game runs perfectly, FMV, music and all. And since it doesn't use analogue unlike 8 or 9, it's perfectly suited for the PSP control setup. It's certainly not a convenient title for this, but like I said to Miles, portable FF7 is simply a curiosity I had to have

Still have a few titles I'd love to convert, mainly

Tomba!
Grandia
Um Jammer Lammy
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Dino Crisis
Einhänder

I'll hold off converting Parappa till I see how the PSP version turns out. Still, this is so compulsive, creating custom menu music for each game, selecting the icons and backgrounds, ripping, converting, testing. Now to find proper time to enjoy games =P

Just as a note, I hate Kishin's avatar
I do. Everytime I see it, I try not to look at it. Even with a passing glance, it ALWAYS makes me think Jerry is picking his nose. And not only picking his nose, but he actually already dug up something from it and rolling it into one of those disgusting half-dried snotballs.

FUCK YOU KISHIN

FUCK YOU AND YOUR DISGUSTING NOSE PICKING LEWIS AVATAR >=0

In other news, I started Final Fantasy XII on Saturday and proceeded to play it for 11 hours 15 minutes straight. Probably more, cause I died a few times, but when I went to bed on Saturday night, the game clock read 11 hours.

I've yet to ever play a game that much in a single day, not even when I was completely addicted to Guild Wars. But then, I suppose it's all fine since I didn't get to play at all on Sunday nor yesterday, you could say it evens out.

The story doesn't grip me as much as I'd like, at least not just yet, but everything is just as good as I'd hope. Many of the voiceactors bothered me a bit in the beginning. None of them were what I would call "good", but they were tolerable and after a while, I've begun to warm up to the voices more and more. So all pleasant so far.

Other than that, nothing like sitting at work, listening to the Vagrant Story OST~

Currently Playing: Hitoshi Sakimoto: Catacombs - Vagrant Story OST

Man, I'm doing pretty well at this
1. Finish Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess
2. Shave
3. Play Final Fantasy XII
4. Play Summon Night
5. Clean room (at least a bit)

#4 is in a "kinda" state. I actually started it, but came to the conclusion that my GBA screen is finally horribly scratched cause I didn't take care of it and playing the game without a backlight is a pain. It feels like they designed the graphics for a backlit screen, so I guess I won't play the game till I get a DS Lite.

So what to do next. I finished Twilight Princess and then went and completed Link's Awakening. The ending felt so sad to me ;_;

So now what. Continue Peter Jackson's King Kong on Xbox? Chill out with more DOAXBV? (the weather really is shit here) Replay Halo? (rofl rofl) Start Final Fantasy XII? Get back to reading manga? Hotman? Genshiken Vol 7? Zettai Kareshi? Maybe watch more Ray the animation? Black Lagoon? Ouran? Something else I have waiting somewhere? Rewatch Firefly? <3

Too many choices ;_;

I would really like to start FFXII. But the thing is, right now that game feels like an investment. With Twilight Princess, I just dove in and told myself that's all I'd play. And that's all I did play. With FFXII, I would need to do the same thing. But knowing that game will keep going for at least 80 hours is a very daunting feeling for someone like me. I would want to play the game for multiple hours a day. I fear that won't happen what with my upcoming schedule, but the more I write about it, the more tempted I am to try.

Oh and I got chocolate pudding on my shirt at work at lunch today. It was so embarrassing.

They had this banana-chocolate mousse for dessert and I sat down at the table with a cup. My ID card, hanging from my neck, swung because I leaned forward to sit, and a corner landed in the pudding. And as I sat down, of course it swung back and hit my shirt. My colleagues had a hearty laugh at that, especially when I lastly opened up a can of orange juice and it spurted out a few drops, on the other side of my shirt. Brown on one side, yellow on the other -____-

Now I'm sitting in a Buzz Music Trivia promotional T-shirt I got from there ='D Washed the stain at work a little, managed to remove most of it. Anyway, time for a late dinner.

EDIT:
[23:08:57] <lurk|work> I was making fun of Q-chan for getting food on his clothes.
[23:09:09] <lurk|work> then I went to a mexican resturaunt for lunch today and got some salsa on my shirt.
[23:09:11] <lurk|work> not a lot but it's a white shirt.
[23:09:16] <Q-chan> =D
[23:09:18] <lurk|work> JUST GOT IT BACK FROM THE DRY CLEANERS LAST NIGHT
[23:09:20] <lurk|work> FUCK YOU Q
[23:09:22] <lurk|work> FUCK YOU
[23:09:23] <lurk|work> FUCK. YOU

=D

Posting on my aunt's laptop
My other aunt bought a laptop last month and I helped set it up and connect her to the web (plus install a bunch of adventure games for her). Two days later she complained she had trouble getting online and it was acting up. I hadn't gotten around to visiting her again to see what it could be about, so on christmas eve when we were all over there, she gave the laptop for me to check at home, the idea being that I test it on my modem to see if it's something in the laptop or something with her modem or her ISP. Her ISP sucks dreadfully to begin with, and the modem also doubles as a router which means double the settings to mess up.

Well, as you can see, everything works on this end, so it's nothing with the computer. Next time I guess I'll take my modem with me and see if it'll work with that. Then go through the router again and finally assess if her ISP is simply so crappy.

So anyway, I started 2007 while playing Link's Awakening. What an auspicious start for a nerd like me~ (stuck in the seventh dungeon now )

How about you GFF? And if 2007 isn't there yet, how do you plan on starting it?

I finished Twilight Princess
And it's 7:50 am.

What a lovely game. A wonderful, wonderful fairytale. It was dark and haunting at times, and one might even say the atmosphere was very different for a Zelda game, but everything else was oozing Zelda magic. Yes, perhaps the feeling of journey and place was a bit lost towards the end, though that could also be due to there being a three day break in my playing due to work.

All in all, about 51 hours on the clock, all heartpieces (I think. I have 20 heart containers so that's probably all of them), 42 poes, giant quiver, giant wallet, all golden bugs. I'm tempted to go back one day and hunt down the remaining 18 poes, but maybe not just yet. I also didn't complete the cave of ordeals, only made it to level 30 or so, then had to go back cause I didn't have the double hookshots at the time.

Anyway, wonderful. Perhaps, after all this, I have to admit it probably won't match that same timeless appeal as Ocarina of Time, but it got so close, that's an amazing achievement in itself.

But whether or not it's better than Ocarina of Time really isn't relevant. What's important is that it's not only a fantastic Zelda game, but a magnificent videogame. I did my rant earlier and it still stands. It's unlike any Zelda you've played before, yet it's like the Zelda you've always known and loved. Dramatic, epic, touching, majestic, beautiful and stocked full of delightful attention to detail and wonderful humor.

Maybe now I can finally go to bed X_X

My New Year resolutions
1. Finish Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess
2. Shave
3. Play Final Fantasy XII
4. Play Summon Night
5. Clean room (at least a bit)

Fifth one is a doozie but I'm sure I can pull it off.

I got a neato Gangs of London presskit from work today, maybe I should take pics of it sometime.

I got new rims for my busted glasses yesterday. Well, they're the same model, just new. They couldn't find spare earpieces and I'd have had to order them in pairs anyway, so they'd have cost me more than these brand new rims (they let me have them for half price) and moving the lenses was free. Looking hot as ever, then.

Whatup 200th.

"Merry Christmas!" - another photo entry
Whew, I'm exhausted. As some of you might remember, us Finnish (and in scandinavian tradition in general) people celebrate christmas on the 24th. It's been a yearly tradition of ours to gather the whole family into someone's place and we'll eat and drink wonderful christmas dishes, then open presents and eventually go home all satisfied.

This year (like last year) we went to my aunt's and naturally I took photos.

The table is set, but not everyone is here yet at this point so none of the foods are ready.

The side table, with candies and chocolates, fruits, nuts and the gingerbread cookies we baked with my mom (though actually the bowl wasn't in place at the time =o)

Blessed, delicious yummies, table set!

The haaaaaaaam! >=0~~~~

We cooked it for a good 10 hours on the night between friday and saturday. It was absolutely divine and my mouth is literally watering again just thinking about it ;_;

More delicious food. This sweetened potato-something-something-I-have-no-name-for-in-english-since-such-a-dish-does-not-exist-there was wonderful.

*drrrooooooollll* =Q

Too bad I didn't put vegetables on the plate to give it more color, but it was fabulous either way. The ham and sauce were so wonderfully salty too <3

Dessert was the same frozen curd dish that mom made for independence day.

Handing out da presents.

My pile. A wonderful pile it was. Not too many to make you feel bad, not too little either. And all great gifts I loved <3 Notice also the Moomin gift wrapping.

Mom recieving a Marimekko tablecloth from my brother and Ida, though those two had only stopped by for a moment and then went over to Ida's parents.

The wonderful chocolate-liqueur cake we had with coffee. And no, mom didn't make it this time, we bought it~

More present opening followed after coffee. We each opened our presents in turns, so everyone could see what people got.

My swag. Latest issue of Empire magazine, Outolempi (Strangelove), which was a cool book about movie tidbits, three hardcover Moomin books (I can finally get my own full set), an electric toothbrush and some very, very fancy origami paper I probably won't have the heart to actually fold ;_;

Here's a few videos I shot while laying on the sofa. The first was during the second course, right after I'd eaten too much, while the second is much later in the evening after we'd opened our presents. Lots of Finnish involved, you've been warned~

That's it for my christmas. Tomorrow will be a comfortable day of staying in the house in your pajamas and/or underwear, eating the left over food and probably enjoying more Zelda magic.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Aw hell ;_;
This entry was supposed to be about how dangerous Twilight Princess is, but just now as I was finishing up moving the pics I took from my camera, I took off my glasses and the right earpiece fell off ;_;

It's like a tiny hockeystick now!

Still, this sucks. I suppose I can try gluing it on in the morning, I'd hate to have to buy new rims, I like these ;_;

I can still wear them, even with one earpiece. is this stylish gff.........

But they are slightly crooked and it's ever so slightly disorienting and quite frankly giving me a headache fast, so forgive me as I type with one hand while keeping the glasses up higher with the other, stuck in permanent Gendo position.

Anyway, so as I was originally saying, Twilight Princess is a very dangerous game. And I'm not even talking about lenght and addictiveness.

It makes you gay for Link,

sup BB <3

pedo for Agitha

and furry for Midna~

All at once too, YOU KNOW WHAT THAT DOES TO A PERSON?

Not to mention who knows what for Epona, but let's not go there. I have to admit the spinner is quite an awesome item and allows for some crazy dungeon design. Too bad I got called for work today so I haven't had time to get much farther in the game ._.

Zelda <3 <3 <3

looooooooooooooool

No, actually, this did make me laugh:

Anyway, so Twilight Princess is wonderful. It's very difficult to pinpoint what makes it so fantastic, but the best I can manage is: I've pretty much loved every single Zelda game I've played (1, 2, 3, 4, OoT, MM, MC, WW), and yet Twilight Princess somehow feels like the Zelda game I've always wanted to play.

There are games that are fun and there are games that reward you in unimaginable ways every second, for everything you do in it. Zelda games have always been about exploration and discovery, but a much larger part of the experience is the unabashed joy you get from them. Plenty of games can do a wide empty field, but it takes something else to make the field incredible fun to run around and explore. Every corner, every path, every cave you find, everything leads to something and there is just so much to be found and you want to find it all.

The game is spellbindingly pretty, especially for a GC title. Not only does it look technically spectacular, but Nintendo have really outdone themselves with aesthetics. Everything looks beautiful, making every location and sequence even more enjoyable to see and discover. I'm usually always in a rush to move forward in games these days, but Zelda games have that ability to calm you down, to entice you into staying a while. Go fishing, go swimming, just sit around and watch the sunset.

Character design and characterization in particular are exemplary. The story is perhaps not the deepest around, but the pacing, the scripting, the story exposition are all marvelous. Cutscenes are unusually long and plentiful, beautifully directed and often pack an unusually strong emotional punch. You really grow to care about the characters and their destinies.

Midna is a wonderful, wonderful character and has been brought to life magnificently with her detailed facial expressions and animations and her memorable voice. Perhaps the only design I'm slightly disappointed with are the Zoras, they looked much nicer in OoT style, but even they look great, maybe just not as.. graceful as I expected. The human characters looked a bit off to me when I first saw the previews, but their animations really bring them to life and add charm.

Music is amazing. I am actually very surprised. Zelda games have always had memorable music, but they've been pleasant little ditties that you probably won't listen to otherwise. But working with the setpieces and cutscenes, the TP score is dramatic and powerful, with some extremely pretty pieces at just the right moments.

I'm about 27 hours in (going through the Arbiter's Grounds) and it's been an extremely gripping ride so far. Twilight Princess moves along at a breathless pace and is easily the most cinematic and story focused Zelda so far. Some may complain this makes it more linear, but for me the style works. All would have been for nothing if the story had had nothing to offer, but the development team have really gone all out to make it as gripping as it is. Usually you're simply content with finding out what place you'll visit next, but in Twilight Princess you also have to know what happens next, it manages the same type of pull as Vagrant Story last did for me, and that is a heck of a feat.

Oh, the gameplay? Well, it's Zelda. The puzzles and dungeons are marvelous, displaying some of the best Nintendo genius since Ocarina of Time. I sometimes find the two item limit a bit annoying, but it still works. Wolf transformation can be slightly cumbersome, but considering you can do it anywhere, it's still a fantastic design device. They also put it to great use, instead of just making it an elaborate lock-key.

Sigh. Anyone who isn't into Zelda games will probably just shake their heads at all this, but hey, their loss. Twilight Princess is not only a great Zelda game (something I'm so happy about after waiting for so many years), but easily the most wonderful time I've had with a videogame in ages. I am thankful I have a GC and get to play such a great game. I'm thankful I got to buy it before release day and start it almost right away. I'm thankful Nintendo kept with it and worked so hard to give us such an amazing swansong for the GC.
