Mega64 videos usually make me feel really uncomfortable
The latest Super Mario Bros one made me laugh forever though.

sup guys. I stopped by Savepoint today to pick up my Wario Ware Twisted for GBA so now I finally have a copy. Needless to say it's completely wonderful and making me fall in love with Nintendo all over.

I have a perchant for turning women into lesbians
It's true. While walking to the bus to go see Millennium Actress again today, I pondered on this a bit (I pick the best times).

Quite a few women (though not all) I've been involved with one way or another have at some point realized they like girls better (or at least don't mind dating either sex, yet still prefer female). Jan-Tan moved in with a girlfriend and lived with her for a few months, and not in a platonic friendship. They have since then moved apart, but still. Seris started dating her close friend CL.

A, turns out, had dated four girls before I met her and had only then gotten her eye on a boy for the first time ever. This boy, of course, wasn't me though, and eventually she found herself preferring women for dating again. And just a few days ago I learned that a girl I'd had a two way crush on back when we were 12 (and who has apparently grown from her previous petite form to quite wholesome.. sizes) has now become a carpet muncher as well.

One more and I'm convinced Jessy was straight before I befriended her.

It's not as if I don't still have straight female friends around (ohhh yeah, do I have plenty), but it IS slightly concerning, considering I never thought myself as someone who even knew any homosexuals to begin with, much less have them turn into one shortly after meeting me

What the FUCK

Where the heck did these come from? ;_;

Anyway, hi. I'm at work right now, incidentally. They suddenly needed me for a few days. You can see what else I've gotten done here today. Two emails, no calls, and I've been playing ESPGaluda and drinking soda. Ahh~

I'm going to go see Millennium Actress on Sunday again, this time with my two aunts and Vesa.

Other than that, I finished Tomb Raider Legend and then started playing Tsukihime. I got Arcueid's True and Good endings and while I'd like to explore the Akiha storyline, I'm feeling a bit numb on the game. It's true it's like a novel and all, and the story is still as good as ever, but really. With no voice acting and minimal music (though pretty) my attention span lasts only so long with a story I already know ._.

Either way, still great stuff, especially since to counter the heartbreak, there's usually a "happy" good ending around too. I also have Wind -a breath of heart- waiting, my love for translated h-games (fan- or official) is slowly reviving~

And a fine Saturday it was too
(this entry has been typed out without using the index and thumb on my left hand because I burned them pretty badly today on a piece of toasted dark bread)

Amazingly enough, Millennium Actress premiered in movie theaters here just this Friday. Despite Blah's best gushings for the past.. oh, two years, I never got around to watching it. Last August I saw a trailer for it when I went to see Hoodwinked and I was really surprised and pleased to see they were bringing it over. I figured I'd finally wait for the theater release instead of downloading. Time passed and nothing really was heard of the film. I'd already thought the whole thing fell through and they scrapped the release.

And yet this Friday I opened NYT and there was a review for the film. Boo and I went to see it today (before the movie, I went to Fennica to see if they had UxU stocked (they didn't) and picked up the first volume of Let's Be Perverts (which proved to be awesome)). To make it even better, before the film they showed a trailer for Kiki's Delivery Service, confirming the next Miyazaki film Cinema Mondo is bringing over to theaters here. Totoro was just now released on DVD here, so hopefully they'll do the same for Kiki later, and then every other Miyazaki film they release. I can't wait till they get to Laputa <3

Anyway, Blah (and spat) was, of course, absolutely right. Millennium Actress is a beautiful and wonderfully moving film. The more I've thought about it throughout the day, the more I like it. I'm definitely seeing it again with my aunts and whoever else wants to see it. It's such a shame it's only showing in one single theater and at such awkward times (1:45 PM, 9PM and 11PM), but I urge any finnish moviegoer to see it while you still can. I can only pray they'll release a finnish subbed DVD of it later, but that's sadly doubtful.

Spoiler:
Despite all the genuinely moving drama in the story, I feel the most heartbreaking moment somehow is the scene with the spinning wheels as Chiyoko rides the bicycle and "Run" plays in the background. The song is so energetic and "cheery" but it's filled with so much sadness for me. Of lost youth and life. It just makes me think of her life, that situation, where she is and what she can't get back anymore, that feeling of freedom and what then follows in the story.

But it wasn't a depressing kind of sad, not at all. I wouldn't have enjoyed it half as much if the movie had left me with a feeling of depressing sadness in the end.

Q buys more things! And gets a package in the mail!
My Haibane Renmei box is finally heeeere! <3 <3 <3

Picked it up from the post office, went to Savepoint, and lo, they happened to have Skies of Arcadia Legends on their shelf, as well as a second hand Dawn of Sorrow, which is pretty much extinct over here these days. I don't even have a DS yet, but I already own two games for it now

They'd also come across a boxed copy of Castlevania IV, so I snatched that right up.

Haibane Renmei <3 <3 <3 <3
God, the box is just gorgeus. And I'm happy to see the picture is 16:9 anamorphic and not full screen like the site claims. Already left them a note on the misinformation. Sigh, I don't even remember how many years I've tried to get the box and here it is, still in lovely wrapper, not a scratch or dent in sight <3 <3

I'm currently wondering why my blog has THE most broken service in the universe. I just want to do this stupid update so I can go read Salad Days and get some sleep. FUCKING LOAD THE GOD DAMN PAGE. Thank god I'm not the one paying for this crap.

I finally finished FFXII
It's 4:40 am X_X

My final time must been around 105 hours or so. It was 103:08 in my last save before Bahamut. What a finale. I dunno why people are so disappointed with the ending, I thought the resolution was great. Sure, if you need everything "unanswered" spelled out for you, I guess it leaves a few details open, but it provides enough closure for the main story, which I figure is what matters most here.

But holy shit, was that Vagrant Story or what? I was laughing in delight at through the whole finale. The Undying was pure Guildernstern and the end credits with Yoshida's character art in the background? Now I have no doubt at all that this is how Matsuno originally visualised Vagrant Story (though I am glad he didn't in the end)

What a game. It just grows on you. For ages I kept going "Yeah, it's good, but.." and "I like it, but.." and now I'm convinced this is the finest RPG they'll be making for a very, very long time. A magnificent return to form for a franchise and a superb swansong for the PS2. All in all, maybe not quite as captivating and personal as VS, but it's an epic, so that's forgivable. I guess I would have kinda wished for a little more grip to the story, but it's the way it's so differently written and told that's still taking getting used to. Now I can finally remove the disc from my console with a sigh of relief. Time to play something short.

I am SO proud of myself
In this entry, Q has way too much time on his hands.

So a while back Rit sent me a short ICO doujin. It was only five pages, and it was actually half of a doujinshi called Kalanchoe, the other half apparently being Fate/Stay. Very short, very pretty. Beautifully drawn and from what little I could guess, beautifully told.

Now, a while back, I had leafed through a raw scan of Genshiken Vol 8 and out of curiosity, wanted to try and translate a few select speech bubbles in an attempt to fully understand what happens in one particular scene. It was a process of crosschecking a unicode list of higana, katakana and a frustratingly short kanji list, babelfish and pure, stupid tenacity as I slowly, painfully slowly translated it. It took hours, and I couldn't figure out a number of kanji (that weren't protagonist names), but I got the gist of it. I also discovered Ogiue calls Sasahara by his first name~

Anyway, a few days ago, inspired by this mini achievement, I decided to try my hand at translating the doujin Rit had given me. It shouldn't be too big a deal, there's not that many speech bubbles, and being a doujin it should be simple language.

It was.. very painful. Hiragana was laughably easy, but the artist used kanj in pretty every single speech bubble and since I have no knowledge of them whatsoever, I literally had to scan through lists of kanji in an attempt to find the same one and a translation for it. I photoshopped around with the pages, creating vector layers for translated text and transliterated text, in a sense I rewrote the dialogue kana into unicode characters, which were much easier to handle, and at the same time I was making sure I was reading it right.

Now, two days later (Saka helped me out), I'm done. There was a few snags, two cases of handwritten text proved too unreadable for me, but all in all, seeing as I have zero skill in reading japanese, I'm pretty proud. The translation isn't 100% accurate, of course, and I avoided going for a literal translation most of the time, but I'm pretty sure it's close enough to get the meaning across.

I also included three extra concept pages from the end that I didn't translate. I thought about doing it, Yorda is for instance thinking something about waiting, but the handwritten kanji in the box under it was enough to scare me away. I'm done. Through. God, I'm exhausted. This was the worst idea ever, but I'm still pleased.

Anyway, hope someone likes it.

Something for Bisho to keep in mind

I know I'm kinda late in reading it (when am I not?), but Zettai Kareshi is hilarious. Very cute and charming too, with plenty of hawt guys for the shonen ai readers as well, I suppose. The perfect reading after the anxiety of Gantz.

I've also been rereading Yoshiki Ube's works, as well as finding new ones *blush*
But I really should try and finish FFXII, no matter how distracting manga feels once more.

YOU PEOPLE CAN STILL ASK ME QUESTIONS IN MY TRUTH HURTS THREAD, IT CLOSES TOMORROW

looooooool surprise winter break
First things first:
GO ASK ME QUESTIONS IN MY TRUTH HURTS THREAD

I am whoring this because last time I missed Taco's thread and I know for certain a dozen people haven't even noticed mine, and probably don't realize how fast the threads close. So get posting >=0

Next on the list, I was all set to go to evening class today when I happened to notice my course schedule didn't mention a central subject for today's class. So I found out it's actually winter break this week and I don't have to go to school at all

This will give me enough time to finish FFXII. I'm not 96 hours in and about to head to the lighthouse. To my understanding I'm relatively close to the end now.

I've also been reading Gantz out of morbid curiosity. I downloaded 20 volumes of it so I've felt compelled to read at least what I have so far. It veers wildly between slightly entertaining and completely repulsive. Some of the action scenes are pretty fun to read, when Oku isn't focusing pages and pages on mutilated women, that is.

I'm going to need something far more pleasant tonight after I'm done with this (5 more volumes to go).
