I am SO proud of myself |

In this entry, Q has way too much time on his hands.
So a while back Rit sent me a short ICO doujin. It was only five pages, and it was actually half of a doujinshi called Kalanchoe, the other half apparently being Fate/Stay. Very short, very pretty. Beautifully drawn and from what little I could guess, beautifully told.
Now, a while back, I had leafed through a raw scan of Genshiken Vol 8 and out of curiosity, wanted to try and translate a few select speech bubbles in an attempt to fully understand what happens in one particular scene. It was a process of crosschecking a unicode list of higana, katakana and a frustratingly short kanji list, babelfish and pure, stupid tenacity as I slowly, painfully slowly translated it. It took hours, and I couldn't figure out a number of kanji (that weren't protagonist names), but I got the gist of it. I also discovered Ogiue calls Sasahara by his first name~
Anyway, a few days ago, inspired by this mini achievement, I decided to try my hand at translating the doujin Rit had given me. It shouldn't be too big a deal, there's not that many speech bubbles, and being a doujin it should be simple language.
It was.. very painful. Hiragana was laughably easy, but the artist used kanj in pretty every single speech bubble and since I have no knowledge of them whatsoever, I literally had to scan through lists of kanji in an attempt to find the same one and a translation for it. I photoshopped around with the pages, creating vector layers for translated text and transliterated text, in a sense I rewrote the dialogue kana into unicode characters, which were much easier to handle, and at the same time I was making sure I was reading it right.
Now, two days later (Saka helped me out), I'm done. There was a few snags, two cases of handwritten text proved too unreadable for me, but all in all, seeing as I have zero skill in reading japanese, I'm pretty proud. The translation isn't 100% accurate, of course, and I avoided going for a literal translation most of the time, but I'm pretty sure it's close enough to get the meaning across.
I also included three extra concept pages from the end that I didn't translate. I thought about doing it, Yorda is for instance thinking something about waiting, but the handwritten kanji in the box under it was enough to scare me away. I'm done. Through. God, I'm exhausted. This was the worst idea ever, but I'm still pleased.
Anyway, hope someone likes it.
