Okay, so let's take Final Fantasy IX (though this is a common element in many other Japanese role-playing games as well). Those of you who have played it will know that after you beat the traditional Final Fantasy homoerotic villain Kuja, basically some asshole called Necron pops up completely out of fucking nowhere and starts going on about 'returning the world to zero state' or something like that. Then you have to fight him in a turn-based battle. Most people were like 'what' about that.
Of course, what most people don't realize is that this wacky plot device is actually a tribute to Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Žižek:
Man, I love this guy. Even the accent is there. If I ever hit my head against a rock and decide to start reading about philosophy, he is what I will start from.
